The authors reflect on the updated guidelines of Great Britain's National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for hip fractures in adults. Topics covered include the radiological classification of undisplaced intracapsular hip fractures, the effectiveness of total hip arthroplasty (THA) and hemiarthroplasty, and the use of total hip replacement as the most cost-effective management for displaced intracapsular hip fracture.

Cross-modal sketch-photo recognition is of vital importance in law enforcement and public security. Most existing methods are dedicated to bridging the gap between the low-level visual features of sketches and photo images, which is limited due to intrinsic differences in pixel values. In this paper, based on the intuition that sketches and photo images are highly correlated in the semantic domain, we propose to jointly utilize the low-level visual features and high-level facial attributes to enhance the representation ability of sketches. More specifically, a Multi-Modal Conditional GAN (MMC-GAN) is proposed to generate face images for further face recognition based on the generated images. During training, an identity-preserving constraint is further introduced to improve the discriminative ability of the synthetic images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the effectiveness of attribute-aided face synthesis and recognition.

Alaska Native and American Indian People (AN/AI people) have diverse and rich cultural perspectives on advance care planning. There is very limited information and studies on advance care planning with AN/AI people and the approaches on how to engage in these conversations. The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Palliative Care Program has developed innovative clinical tools for advance care planning that integrate concepts of cultural humility to respect the diverse traditions and cultures of AN/AI people.

The article discusses determination of renal access to the pelvicalyceal system as a necessary step of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Topics discussed include comparison in the safety and efficacy of fluoroscopic (FG), ultrasonographic (USG), and combined ultrasonographic guidance in treatment of simple kidney stones; use of percutaneous nephrolithotomy for treatment of larger stones; and use of USG by surgeon to identify the kidney pelvicalyceal system.

Augmented feedback has been shown to improve interaction in virtual environments and to facilitate motor learning. Recent studies proposed this type of feedback to guide users, to highlight specific areas or to help them to perform a specific task. They can follow a path, pass through specific waypoints or even mimic an avatar. However these approaches do not show the gap between learners' performance and the desired one. Our hypothesis is that by revealing this gap to the users, they will reduce it step by step and tend to the required performance. Thus, in this paper, we propose a new visual metaphor to guide trainees' gestures by showing trajectory errors instead of showing the path to follow. In a first study we evaluated trainees' improvement by measuring the mentioned gap. First results indicate that our approach allows an enhanced task performance.
