Time scheduling and optimization of industrial robotized tasks based on genetic algorithms

Today's industrial manipulators are more and more demanding in terms of productivity. This goal could be achieved by increasing speed of the robot manipulator and/or by optimizing the trajectories followed by manipulators while performing manufacturing, assembling, welding or similar tasks. Focusing on the second aspect, this research proposes a method based on genetic algorithms by exploiting CAD (computer aided design) capabilities to optimize and simulate cycle time in performing classical manufacturing tasks. The goal is to determine the shortest distance traveled by the robot manipulator in the coordinate space for every pair of successive points. In addition, our optimization procedure considers supplementary factors such as inverse kinematic model (IKM) and relative position/orientation of the manipulator w.r.t task points. All these factors were statistically assessed to determine both individual and cross influences in finding the optimal solution. The proposed approach has been validated on a real life setup, involving a 6-DOFs (degrees of freedom) industrial robot manipulator when performing a spot welding task on a car body. The obtained results are promising and show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The purpose of this book is to present the main metaheuristics and approximate and stochastic methods for optimization of complex systems in Engineering Sciences. It has been written within the framework of the European Union project ERRIC (Empowering Romanian Research on Intelligent Information Technologies), which is funded by the EU’s FP7 Research Potential program and has been developed in co-operation between French and Romanian teaching researchers. Through the principles of various proposed algorithms (with additional references) this book allows the reader to explore various methods of implementation such as metaheuristics, local search and populationbased methods. It examines multi-objective and stochastic optimization, as well as methods and tools for computer-aided decision-making and simulation for decision-making.

Multiple sequence alignment is one of the important research topics of bioinformatics. The objective is to maximize the similarities between them by adding and shuffling gaps. We propose a hybrid algorithm based on genetic (GAs) and 2-optimal algorithms. We are using permutation coding corresponding to represent the solution, and we are studying scoring function for multiple alignments, that is used as fitness function. Our GA is implemented with two selections strategies and different crossovers. The probability of crossover and mutation are set as one. Performance and comparison of the proposed GA is analyzed and the obtained solution qualities are reported.

One-dimensional Mel-Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (1D-MFCC) in conjunction with a power spectrum analysis method is usually used as a feature extraction in a speaker identification system. However, as this one dimensional feature extraction subsystem shows low recognition rate for identifying an utterance speech signal under harsh noise conditions, we have developed a speaker identification system based on two-dimensional Bispectrum data that was theoretically more robust to the addition of Gaussian noise. As the processing sequence of ID-MFCC method could not be directly used for processing the two-dimensional Bispectrum data, in this paper we proposed a 2D-MFCC method as an extension of the 1D-MFCC method and the optimization of the 2D filter design using Genetic algorithms. By using the 2D-MFCC method with the Bispectrum analysis method as the feature extraction technique, we then used Hidden Markov Model as the pattern classifier. In this paper, we have experimentally shows our developed methods for identifying an utterance speech signal buried with various levels of noise. Experimental result shows that the 2D-MFCC method without GA optimization has a comparable high recognition rate with that of 1D-MFCC method for utterance signal without noise addition. However, when the utterance signal is buried with Gaussian noises, the developed 2D-MFCC shows higher recognition capability, especially, when the 2D-MFCC optimized by genetics algorithms is utilized.

The actual system structure of the mobility of the goods, self-regulated from spontaneous phenomena rather than coherent and uniform managerial approach, is not compatible with the sustainable development, the optimization of the resources, the quality of the services and the respect of the atmosphere. In this context, the combined transport represent an alternative to all-road transport. Inside the transport chain, the node dedicated to the modal change represents the critical element in which, due to a wrong political organizational, design or operational procedures, it's possible to make useless the benefits acquired in the phases of transport. This research, aims to develop an heuristics procedure for the optimization of the stacking activities in an inland intermodal terminal with the aim of increasing total efficiency in the whole transshipment node.

The steel profiled sheets are all economical alternative for roofing and siding in industrial stores, hangars and other kinds of pavilions, since these structural components are able to close large openings without too much increasing of the load over the cladding system structures Trapezoidal sheets are specifically a good alternative to close this kind of structures The opening span that this kind of sheet is able to cover can be determined through the serviceability displacement limit state. Since the steel sheet cross-sectional elements have little thickness, the local buckling collapse modes Must be considered In this calculus. With this study. we attempt to evaluate the best alternatives for trapezoidal-shaped cross-sections of steel sheets to be used in roof cladding. subjected to bending moments. The sheets analysis has been carried out by using three-dimensional shell finite element models combined with optimization routines based on genetic algorithms procedures The first profile to be obtained has been the one that has showed the lowest displacement and the highest critical elastic buckling load. at the same time maximizing the roof covering area Finally, as a result of a sensitivity analysis, it has been possible to state some useful criteria for the trapezoidal steel roofing sheets design by modifying the weights of the proposed optimization objectives (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd All rights reserved.

This paper presents approach to optimize physical arrangements for electrical power system overhead distribution lines. The technique employs the Genetic algorithms Theory to find the best geometric arrangement by weighting the optimal phase and sub-conductors spacing as well as the line heights aiming at achieving the maximum power at the end receiver. In order to emphasize the procedure, which seeks for the best distribution line configuration as far as power transmission capability is concerned;the optimization methodology is applied to typical 34.5 and 138 kV overhead lines.
