Multiobjective optimization of Hull Form Based on global optimization algorithm

Coded aperture imaging (CAI) has evolved as a standard technique for imaging high energy photon sources and has found numerous applications. Coded aperture arrays (CAAs) are the most important devices in the applications of CAI. In recent years, many approaches were presented to design optimum or near-optimum CAAs. Uniformly redundant arrays (URAs) are the most successful CAAs for their cyclic autocorrelation consisting of a sequence of delta functions on a flat sidelobe which can easily be subtracted when the object has been reconstructed. Unfortunately, the existing methods can only be used to design URAs with limited number of array sizes and fixed autocorrelative sidelobe-to-peak ratio. In this paper, we presented a method to design more flexible URAs by means of a global optimization algorithm named DIRECT. By our approaches, we obtain various types of URAs including the filled URAs which can be constructed by existing methods and the sparse URAs which never be constructed and mentioned by existing papers as far as we know.

Assimilating external data into crop growth model to improve accuracy of crop growth monitoring and yield estimation has been being a research hotspot in recent years. In this paper, the global optimization algorithm SCE-UA (Shuffled Complex Evolution method - University of Arizona) was used to integrate remotely sensed leaf area index (LAI) with crop growth model EPIC to simulate regional yield, sowing date, plant density and net nitrogen fertilizer application rate of summer maize in Huanghuaihai Plain. The final results showed that average relative error of estimated summer maize yield was 4.37% and RMSE was 0.44t/ha. Meanwhile, compared with actual observation and investigation data, average relative error of simulated sowing date, plant density and net N fertilization application rate was 1.85%, -7.78% and -10.60% respectively. These above accuracy of simulated results could meet the need of crop monitoring at regional scale. It was proved that integrating remotely sensed LAI with EPIC model based on global optimization algorithm SCE-UA for simulation of crop growth condition and crop yield was feasible.

With the developing of the microprocessor and SOC (system on a chip) techniques, the research on the testability of mixed-signal (digital and analogue signal) circuits has became urgently requisite. The Discrete Event System (DES) theory gave a uniform and systematic approach for the testability and faulty-diagnosis problems of mixed-signal circuits. In this approach, one of the two main tasks is finding the minimum test set of the mixed-signal circuits. This paper illustrates a combinational optimization method based on the Simulated Annealing for the minimum test set of the mixed-signal circuits. Then there is the discussion about the convergence the algorithm's searching process. Finally, some research directions are pointed out.

To avoid the jamming risk, positioning error, and application limitation caused by In-pipe detector odometers, this paper introduces a global optimization algorithm to estimate the speed information, which can be an alternative to odometers. In the paper, a small In-pipe detector positioning system that incorporates MEMS IMU, motion state recognition, and global optimization algorithm is proposed. In this system, a machine learning algorithm identifies the motion state of the In-pipe detector. The global optimization algorithm obtains the optimal estimates of velocity and attitude angle for each segment of the trajectory. The extended Kalman filter fuses the estimates with the inertial navigation solving results. Finally, the target point is accurately located. Vehicle simulation experiments show that the positioning accuracy of the system without odometry reaches 1.3%, and the positioning accuracy is improved by 73.73% when it is used for the integrated navigation of inertial navigation plus odometer. The system provides a new method of obtaining velocity information, which can effectively improve positioning accuracy.

A grid-free global optimization algorithm for sound sources localization in three-dimensional reverberant environments

In this work, a new grid-free global optimization algorithm that combined the image source model(ISM) and state transition algorithm(STA) was proposed to realize the sound source localization in reverberant environments. The simulation results show that only first-order mirror sources being kept can ensure localization accuracy. Compared with de-reverberation beamforming, the localization results of the proposed algorithm have no sidelobes and smaller mainlobes. Compared with the differential evolution(DE) algorithm, STA can converge to smaller fitness values, which can achieve more accurate sound source localization in reverberant environments. Meanwhile, the proposed algorithm can be applied to both single-source and multi-source localization in practical scenarios. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can locate the sound source accurately in reverberant environments.

Background: A relevant problem in drug design is the comparison and recognition of protein binding sites. Binding sites recognition is generally based on geometry often combined with physico-chemical properties of the site since the conformation, size and chemical composition of the protein surface are all relevant for the interaction with a specific ligand. Several matching strategies have been designed for the recognition of protein-ligand binding sites and of protein-protein interfaces but the problem cannot be considered solved. Results: In this paper we propose a new method for local structural alignment of protein surfaces based on continuous global optimization techniques. Given the three-dimensional structures of two proteins, the method finds the isometric transformation (rotation plus translation) that best superimposes active regions of two structures. We draw our inspiration from the well-known Iterative Closest Point (ICP) method for three-dimensional (3D) shapes registration. Our main contribution is in the adoption of a controlled random search as a more efficient global optimization approach along with a new dissimilarity measure. The reported computational experience and comparison show viability of the proposed approach. Conclusions: Our method performs well to detect similarity in binding sites when this in fact exists. In the future we plan to do a more comprehensive evaluation of the method by considering large datasets of non-redundant proteins and applying a clustering technique to the results of all comparisons to classify binding sites.

The development of energy-efficient and low-cost desalination techniques is crucial. Among these techniques, reverse osmosis (RO) is considered one of the most promising solutions for addressing the global water crisis. It has been widely implemented for both large-scale and distributed water desalination. One such promising desalination membrane is MXene with nanopores, thanks to its unique properties. However, accurately predicting the performance of the desalination process or designing new materials is challenging due to the complexity of the process and the various tunable properties of the membranes and nanopores themselves. The combination of machine learning (ML) and global optimization algorithms offers a superior approach to material design from multiple perspectives. Our study demonstrates that Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) exhibits faster convergence speed and stability compared to Genetic algorithms. Ti3C2O2 with a specific charge on the nanopore mouth is an excellent candidate, as determined by the particle swarm optimization algorithm. By analyzing water density and ion density along the nanopore, we gain a deep understanding of how pore charge and functionalized groups affect salt rejection and water permeation. The integration of ML and global optimization algorithms can facilitate the design of materials with outstanding desalination performance.
