In this study, we propose a procedure for integrating several ecosystem services into forest management by using the well-known multi-criteria approach called goal programming. It shows how interactions with various stakeholders are essential in order to choose the goal programming model applied, as well as some of its basic components (variant, targets, preferential weights, etc.). This methodology has been applied to a real forest management case where five criteria have been selected: timber production, wild edible mushroom production, carbon sequestration, net present value of the underlying investment, and a criterion associated with the sustainability of forest management defined by the idea of a normal forest. Given the characteristics of some of these criteria, such as mushroom production, the model has been developed in two scenarios: one deterministic and another with a Monte Carlo analysis. The results show a considerable degree of conflict between the proposed criteria. By applying several goal programming models, different Paretian efficient solutions were obtained. In addition, some results in Monte Carlo analysis for several criteria show notable variations. This fact is especially notable for the mushroom production criterion. Finally, the proposed approach seems attractive and can be directly applied to other forest management situations.

This paper focuses on how to find an analytic solution of optimal interval weights from consistent interval fuzzy preference relations (IFPRs) and obtain approximate-solution based interval weights in analytic form from inconsistent IFPRs. The paper first analyzes the popularly used interval weight additive normalization model and illustrates its drawbacks on the existence and uniqueness for characterizing 10, 1[-valued interval weights obtained from IFPRs. By examining equivalency of]0, 1[-valued interval weight vectors, a novel framework of multiplicatively normalized interval fuzzy weights (MNIFWs) is then proposed and used to define multiplicatively consistent IFPRs. The paper presents significant properties for multiplicatively consistent IFPRs and their associated MNIFWs. These properties are subsequently used to establish two goal programming (GP) models for obtaining optimal MNIFWs from consistent IFPRs. By the Lagrangian multiplier method, analytic solutions of the two GP models are found for consistent IFPRs. The paper further devises a two-step procedure for deriving approximate-solution-based MNIFWs in analytic form from inconsistent IFPRs. Two visualized computation formulas are developed to determine the left and right bounds of approximate-solution-based MNIFWs of any IFPR. The paper shows that this approximate solution is an optimal solution if an IFPR is multiplicatively consistent. Three numerical examples including three IFPRs and comparative analyses are offered to demonstrate rationality and validity of the developed model. (C) 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

This paper introduces an interactive approach for solving multiobjective decision making (MODM) problems based on linguistic preferences and architecture of a fuzzy expert system. The aim of this paper is to consider the decision maker's (DMs) preferences in determining the priorities and aspiration levels, in addition to analysis of conflict among the goals. The main concept presented in this paper is to convert the MODM problem into its equivalent goal programming (GP) problem by appropriately setting the priority and aspiration level for each objective. The conversion approach introduced is based on fuzzy linguistic preferences of DM, in addition to the concepts of conflict analysis among objective functions and fuzzy set theory. This paper discusses about finding the best possible route for self-drive tourism which focuses on road network using the goal programming method. The problem is formulated based on the model of a Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP). The model is constructed so as to connect all 19 tourism destinations in Langkawi by minimizing the travel times and travel costs. The study considers three model structures;each of them consists of three goal constraints which are subjected to four hard constraints. The results obtained from each model structure will be compared in order to get the most optimum route for the self-drive tourism. The results showed that the model structure that has the first priority of minimizing the total travel times, second priority of minimizing the travel cost and the third priority of minimizing the accommodation cost was the most suitable to used because this model structure gave the best result compared to other two model structures.

This note attempts to elucidate the basic convention or axioms that underpin the goal programming approach. By interpreting the meaning of these axioms some links between bounded human rationality theories based upon the Simonian concept of "satisficing" and goal programming are established.

The concept of meta-goal programming is developed and linked to an interactive framework. An algorithm is proposed.. in which the decision maker can establish target values on several achievement functions and use an interactive procedure to update these values. This substantially alleviates the problems associated with assigning to each attribute a target value, in order to build the goals, as well as the selection of a suitable achievement function. The functioning of the proposed interactive approach is illustrated with the help of an example taken from the farm management literature. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we propose a model to estimate the market value of residential properties where the selling price is an imprecise estimate of the real value, and when the number of observed residential transactions is small. Thus, the price paid for a property may lie between a lower and an upper limit. The real estate appraiser's experience, judgement and knowledge will be introduced explicitly in the proposed estimation model through a learning process by using the satisfaction functions concept. This model was utilized to estimate the market value of a number of properties in a residential area of the town of Saint-Etienne-de-Lauzon, situated in the Regional Municipality of Des-Chutes-De-LaChaudiere in the Province of Quebec, for taxation purposes.

A chance-constrained goal programming model is developed for the direct foreign investment decisions of U.S.-based multi-national companies. goals, objectives and constraints, which are unique to direct foreign investment decisions, are included in the model. The model also considers economic exposure of exchange-rate risk. A solution procedure is suggested. The model is illustrated by a numerical example that includes sensitivity analysis.

Weighted additive models are well known for dealing with multiple criteria decision making problems. Fuzzy goal programming is a branch of multiple criteria decision making which has been applied to solve real life problems. Several weighted additive models are introduced to handle fuzzy goal programming problems. These models are based on two approaches in fuzzy goal programming namely goal programming and fuzzy programming techniques. However, some of these models are not able to solve all kinds of fuzzy goal programming problems and some of them that appear in current literature suffer from a lack of precision in their formulations. This paper focuses on weighed additive models for fuzzy goal programming. It explains the oversights within some of them and proposes the necessary corrections. A new improved weighted additive model for solving fuzzy goal programming problems is introduced. The relationships between the new model and some of the existing models are discussed and proved. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity and strengths of the new model.

The goal programming (GP) model has been utilized for designing a quality control system (QCS) where several features are simultaneously considered. In the context of the quality control, the parameters can be imprecise and expressed through intervals. The aim of this paper is to propose two formulations for designing a QCS based on the imprecise GP model. The concept of satisfaction functions will be utilized to integrate explicitly the decision-maker's preference. The developed formulations are illustrated through an example of a paper factory.
