This research evaluates the potential gains in benefits from using goal programming to preserve forestland. Two- and three-dimensional goal programming models are developed and applied to data from applicants to the U.S. Forest Service's Forest Legacy Program, the largest forest protection program in the United States. Results suggest that not only do these model yield substantial increases in benefits, but by being able to account for both environmental benefits and in-kind partner cost share, goal programming may be flexible enough to facilitate adoption by program managers needing to account for both ecological and political factors. The multi-segment goal programming (MSGP) model is an extension model of GP wherein the core thinking is inherited from the multi-choice goal programming (MCGP) model. In this paper, we recommend certain points of the MSGP model and offer a Revised MSGP Model as an aid to burdened decision makers who cannot expect an either-or selection of coefficients in practice. The proposed model takes into account a scenario in which the selection of all possible coefficients pertaining to each decision variable in the MSGP model can be an in-between selection instead of an exclusive-or selection. We hope this study can fill in a possible gap that might exist when applying the MSGP model, and can offer an extension model for practitioners when they use this model to solve related decision problems. Tungsten carbide/Cobalt (WC/Co) cemented carbide is one of the important composite materials which is used for manufacturing cutting tools, dies and other special tools. WC/Co cemented carbide produced through powder metallurgy is subjected to Electro Discharge Machining. The process characteristics such as Material Removal Rate, Tool Wear Rate and Surface Roughness are studied by varying speed of electrode rotation, pulse current, pulse on time and dielectric flushing pressure. The experimental results are used to develop non-linear regression models for the process characteristics. A non-linear goal programming based on Genetic Algorithm is used to optimise the processing conditions.

The improper handling and disposal of hazardous wastes cause threats to human health and the environment. One reason for the improper handling and disposal of these wastes is that not much consideration is usually given to the logistical aspects of hazardous waste systems. In this paper an integer goal programming model is developed that takes into consideration the multiple goals and needs of many groups involved in managing and planning hazardous waste systems. The model can easily be implemented and can be used to address many of the issues related to facility location, recycling, treatment, and disposal of hazardous wastes.

goal programming, and in particular lexicographic goal programming (i.e. goal programming within a so-called `pre-emptive priority' structure or having non-Archimedean weights), has become one of the most widely used of the approaches for multi-objective mathematical programming. While also applicable to non-linear or integer models, most of the literature has considered the lexicographic linear goal-programming model and its solution via primal simplex-based methods. However, in many cases, enhanced efficiency (and significant additional flexibility) may be gained via an investigation of the dual of this problem. In this paper we consider an algorithm for solving such a dual and also indicate how it may be implemented on conventional (i.e. single objective) simplex software.

Green supply chain management and product innovation both have become sources of competitive advantage for companies from different industries. However, research on the configuration of green supply chains for new products represents a comparably new trend. In this paper, a goal programming approach is suggested to optimise the supply chain (SC) configuration for a new consumer product under consideration of economic and environmental criteria. The approach is illustrated by the case example of a fast moving consumer goods manufacturer. In this context, trade-offs between the ecologic factor of carbon emission, on the one hand, and financial value creation and customer service level on the other hand, are assessed in the deterministic analyses. The influence of long-term demand uncertainties is modelled in a scenario approach. It is observed that decentralised SC configurations enable carbon emission reduction without deteriorating the economic SC performance. Furthermore, it is detected that a focused economic optimisation strongly amplifies negative environmental impacts of demand uncertainties.

Information system (IS) project selection problems are multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. Existing methods for IS project selection does not reflect interdependencies among criteria and candidate projects, Considering these interdependencies among criteria provides valuable cost savings and greater benefits to organizations. When we evaluate project problems, we need to collect a group opinion because to know the interdependence relationship among criteria and criteria in considered project problems is very important. In order to collect group opinion for interdependent project problem, we use expert interview. In this paper, we suggest an improved IS project selection methodology which reflect interdependencies among evaluation criteria and candidate projects using analytic network process (ANP) within a zero-one goal programming (ZOGP) model.

An additive model to solve Fuzzy goal programming (FGP) is formulated. The method uses arithmetic addition to aggregate the fuzzy goals to construct the relevant decision function. Cardinal and ordinal weights for nonequivalent fuzzy goals are also incorporated in the method. The solution procedure is illustrated with a numerical example.

The factors that are normally considered by customers for comfortable driving upon purchasing a car are acoustical comfort and exposed vibration. Keeping this in mind, the level of noise annoyance in reference to the vehicle acoustical comfort index is proposed. This index can be categorized by five states which are generally used in the computation that involve acoustical levels in the car cabin. This study is carried out in order to improve this index by classifying and categorizing these five states using the fuzzy set theory approach. Besides, identified sources of vibration are usually linked with engine transmission and tire-road interaction. This study includes the observation on the effects of the vibration due to tire interaction with the road, as well as the pattern of the trends toward the experienced noise against the engine speed [rpm] at both stationary and non-stationary positions. A combination of fuzzy set theory and nonlinear programming has been employed to develop a multi-objective model of hybrid fuzzy nonlinear weighted goal programming. This developed model adopts the results that have been provided in order to optimize the acoustics level by referring to the vibration level which is required at a certain value of the engine speed [rpm]. The proposed model has a significant impact towards a better environment, in the perspective of acoustics - a key factor in vehicle manufacturing process.

Selecting the best supplier has been turned into a strategic subject in the competitive market, in the recent years. Supplier selection is one of the significant multiple criteria decision-making problems, which is studied in this paper. This research applies the multi-segment goal programming formulation, which considers different positions in the goal programming. This new kind of goal programming is revised in this investigation. The advantage of the proposed method is that it allows decision makers to set multiple aspiration levels for the coefficient of variables. Hence, the decision makers obtain more revenue and match with the reality of their problems. Unlike the multi-segment goal programming proposed in the literature, the revised formulation is linearized in the current study. The supplier selection problem is solved by this new formulation in a special circumstance. Finally, some concluding notes are remarked.
