Following the idea of Li (1996), Romero (2004) and Chang (2006), this paper proposes several efficient structures of achievement functions for goal programming and interval goal programming models. These proposed structures of achievement functions are more efficient than the traditional structures of achievement functions such as Lexicographic, Weight, MINMAX (Chebyshev) and interval achievement functions. The structures of achievement functions are comprehensive in terms of the breath of goal programming and interval goal programming. In order to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed methods in terms of the number of iterations and execution time, a computational experiment was conducted on a set of generated test examples.

A method is proposed for comparing different sets of aspiration levels assigned to goals in a goal programming problem. This is based on the relative flexibilities that are realised under different sets of aspiration levels. The relative flexibility depends upon the relative degree of choosing an objective in presence of other objectives. A pair-wise comparison method in the sense of Shimura has been proposed for measuring the degree of choosing an objective in presence of other objectives. This methodology affords to compare different sets of assigned aspiration levels and thereby choosing the best set as the one with least relative flexibility.

Small and Medium Manufacturing Enterprises (SMMEs) show increasing interest in collaborative manufacturing. Since, collaborative manufacturing enables SMMEs to collaboratively, deliver total solutions to globally distributed customers in a highly competitive manner. Engaging in collaborative manufacturing however has been identified as a challenging task for most SMMEs. The complexity of the collaborative decision-making processes impels that challenge to the SMMEs. Thus the focus of this paper is to propose an Interactive Meta-goal programming (IMGP)-based decision analysis methodology to help SMMEs overcome this challenge. A major contribution is the improvement of the interaction interface between decision-makers and a goal programming decision model. Our methodology enables every functional entity involved in a collaborative manufacturing decision problem to individually analyse and propose its uniquely desired local goals for the concerned decision, and facilitates the application of different prioritised goal clustering schemes to all proposed goals in order to accurately convey the decision-makers' preferences. Thirdly, meta-goals are used to manipulate the degree of attainment for the prioritised goals. A hypothetical example is provided to illustrate the application of this methodology. The illustrative application in this paper is based on real data obtained from a small business in Wisconsin, U.S.A. The microcomputer-based interactive system indicates that the goal programming approach enables the small-business manager/owner to test a variety of alternative strategies reflected by goal levels and priority structures.

Many researches have been carried out in fuzzy linear regression the past three decades. However, almost all of them are limited to type-1 fuzzy data. A fuzzy linear regression model with type-2 fuzzy output data and type-2 fuzzy coefficients is studied in this paper. A linear programming model based on goal programming is proposed to calculate the regression coefficients. To evaluate the proposed model, we present some indices based on the standard deviation, the correlation coefficient, and the standard error of estimate. The proposed method is illustrated by some numerical examples.

This paper presents a model which has been designed to decide the number of advertisement in different advertising media and the optimal allocation of the budget assigned to the different media. The main objective of this problem is to maximize the reach to the desired section of people for different media within their maximum allowable budget without violating the max and min number of advertisement goals. The media have been considered as different newspapers and different channels in Televisions. Here in this article the model has been formulated in such a way that the advertisement should reach to those who are suitable for the product instead of going to those section who are not considered suitable for the product as well. A chance constrained goal programming model has been designed after considering the parameter corresponding to reach for different media as random variables. The random variables in this case has been considered as values which have known mean and standard deviations. A case for an upcoming institution who are interested to advertise for its two years Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme to the different newspapers and television channels has been designed to illustrate the solution methodology. In this study, we present an experimental design-based goal programming approach to determine the optimum values of the cutting parameters in the drilling process of Kevlar-epoxy composite material. As a result of the experiments, we measured the surface roughness and delamination factor of the drilling hole. We obtained the regression functions for surface roughness and delamination using the 2(k) factorial design approach. Then, the cutting parameter values that will optimise the delamination and surface roughness were found with the goal programming method. The difference between the presented study and the published studies in the literature is that it proposes an integrated experimental design and goal programming approaches to find the optimal parameter values for different target values to minimise surface roughness and delamination at the same time. We have concluded that the proposed method is suitable considering different goal values for obtaining the optimum drilling parameters.

This paper presents an iterative goal programming approach for solving fuzzy multiobjective integer linear programming problems. These problems involve fuzzy parameters in the right-hand side of the constraints. The concept of alpha-level set of these fuzzy parameters is introduced with the definition of their membership function. A solution algorithm is described in sequential steps to solve the formulated model. The suggested approach in this paper is mainly based on the iterative goal programming technique together with Gomory cuts.
