The Transient Network Analyzer (TNA) is a collection of miniature models used to simulate the effects of switching events on power systems and to study various electromagnetic transient phenomena. This paper describes how a new microcomputer is used to serve as a high-performance data acquisition system for TNA operations. The system provides high-speed, synchronous acquisition of multi-phase voltage and current waveforms as well as control of circuit breaker closing angles for statistical analysis. The computer interfaces with the TNA by means of plug-in boards containing analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. The user interface is implemented with a graphical programming environment to provide controls and indicators on a front panel similar to those found on an oscilloscope. The new technology applied to the system make it a compact, highly flexible, and powerful tool.

The analysis and presentation of data from scientific experiments have been simplified by the use of personal computers (PCs) and the available software. PCs also allow one to set up flexible measurement systems. The development of graphical user interfaces also permits scientists who are not information scientists to develop complex controlling software. An introduction is given to the concept behind the graphical programming environment and the use of the software Testpoint(TM) as an example. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B,V. All rights reserved.

The authors' experiences with visualization and debugging of parallel virtual machine (PVM) applications and two of the tools they have devised to facilitate these tasks are described. One of the tools is a graphical monitoring package called Xab that can visually display PVM activities inside an application running across a network. The other is a graphical programming environment called Hence, which helps the user write, compile, execute, and trace heterogeneous distributed programs. The authors discuss their early work, the present research, and the future directions of these experimental projects

This paper introduces a novel approach in parallel checkpointing aimed at supporting fault-tolerance and migration among clusters of a ClusterGrid environment with various middleware components. Based on an architectural analysis, compatibility and integrity requirements are identified and corresponding conditions are established. Some of the available checkpointing systems are checked against the conditions in order to examine their conformity. Finally, a novel checkpointing approach is defined and the Parallel Grid Runtime and Application Development environment (P-GRADE) Grid programming Tool is adapted.

The graphical programming environment Testpoint(TM) is applied for the control of an analogue to digital (A/D) conversion board. Several modes of operation are presented and the ease of implementing a simple data-acquisition program is demonstrated. Further advantages and limitations associated with Testpoint(TM) are discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

This paper describes the development of a laboratory demonstration controller board using the Arduino Uno micro controller platform. The platform is intended to assist in demonstrating closed loop feedback concepts taught as part of the electrical engineering curriculum at CQUniversity Australia. The platform consists of an Arduino Uno and custom designed shield to allow the micro-controller to more easily interface with 24V equipment used in the laboratories. Also developed as part of the platform are 2 additional boards to handle signal conversion for equipment used in the lab and a software interface using MATLAB (R)/SIMULINK (R) for the programming and real time monitoring of the hardware. The effectiveness of the platform is evaluated regarding its effectiveness as a teaching too using an application example.

The development of audio application demands a high knowledge about this application domain, traditional programming logic and programming languages. It is possible to use a Visual programming Language to ease the application development, including experimentations and creative exploration of the language. In this paper we present a Visual programmingenvironment to create Web Audio applications, called Mosaicode. Different from other audio creation platforms that use a visual approach, our environment is a source code generator based on code snippets to create complete applications.
