This paper introduces an electronic timbre dictionary, a search or synthesis system for user desired timbre. Timbre is represented by timbre symbols newly defined here. The method for designing timbre symbols is discussed. The timbre dictionary is designed to open to network users, so that these symbols can be defined and edited by many of network users. Thus the number of timbre symbols will increase. However, they are expected to converge and become stable as entries in Wikipedia have. The system is designed to ease manipulation of timbre symbols and linked sound data using a newly-defined graphicaluser interface (GUI) interaction mode: snaked path listening. This paper reports the total system configuration in detail. The system is intended for use in automatic sound media content creation and electronic music score-making and performance.

Multimodal interaction has the potential to become one of the most efficient, cost-effective and ergonomic working strategies for translation professionals, in the near future. This paper describes our doctoral research project on multimodality in translator-computer interaction (TCI). The specific objective of this project is to observe and analyze the translator experience (TX) with off-the-shelf voice-andtouch- enabled multimodal interfaces, as compared to the interaction with traditional keyboard-and-mouse graphical user interfaces. Overall, this project aims to collect usercentered data and provide recommendations for bettergrounded translation tool design. Thus, the study will make an original contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the fields of TCI and human-computer interaction in general. Copyright 2014 ACM.

High Level Architecture (HLA) is a distributed simulation framework that offers integration, reusability, and flexibility. Nonetheless, it has been criticized for its complexity and overwhelming services. Consequently, it has been rarely used on a day-to-day basis in industrial world. A very steep learning curve is one of the main challenge that faces a new user of HLA distributed simulation. The user has to be familiar with different HLA services (e.g. objects and time management) beside a programming language to develop a basic simulation. In order to overcome this challenge, we developed a tool with friendly graphicaluser interface that encapsulates all HLA services. This tool allows a new user to explore services as described in the standards without the need for programming language. In addition, the interface can be used by an experienced simulator to debug existing federation quickly and efficiently.

This paper presents a new travel aid to increase the independent mobility of blind and elderly travellers. This aid builds on the technologies of geographical information systems (GIS) and the Global Positioning System (GPS). The MoBIC Travel Aid (MoTA) consists of two interrelated components: the MoBIC Pre-journey System (MoPS) to assist users in planning journeys and the MoBIC Outdoor System (MoODS) to execute these plans by providing users with orientation and navigation assistance during journeys. The MoBIC travel aid is complementary to primary mobility aids such as the long cane or guide dog. Results of a study of user requirements, the user interface designs, and the first field trial, currently being conducted in Berlin, are presented.
