In this paper, we describe an approach to uncover and visualize relationships along entities in Wikipedia-pages. We define different distance metrics between Wikipedia articles, based on the link structure. A prototype was implemented, which allows the specification of arbitrary Wikipedia entities with the help of an auto-completion mechanism and the detection of paths with different characteristics between them. The resulting paths between the entities are visualized graphically.

APFEL Web: a web-based application for the graphical visualization of parton distribution functions

We present APFEL Web, a Web-based application designed to provide a flexible user-friendly tool for the graphical visualization of parton distribution functions. In this note we describe the technical design of the APFEL Web application, motivating the choices and the framework used for the development of this project. We document the basic usage of APFEL Web and show how it can be used to provide useful input for a variety of collider phenomenological studies. Finally we provide some examples showing the output generated by the application.

Users of Web search engines are generally confronted to numerous responses that are rarely structured, making it difficult to analyze the available results. Indeed, the linear results displayed through lists ordered according to a relevance criterion, although still widely used, seem often limitless. A solution to this problem is to improve the interfaces for better visualization of large number of results. In this paper, we propose modeling and implementation of a tool for graphical visualization and manipulation of results returned by search engines. The goal is to facilitate the analysis, the interpretation and the supervision of users' information needs. The architecture of the 'Gravisor' tool is based on Multi-Agent paradigm. It is composed of four agents working in full cooperation and coordination. We hope that besides the web information retrieval field, the three graphical visualization modes offered by the 'Gravisor' tool will be a promising alternative for better information visualization in other areas.

This study investigates a cubic-quartic nonlinear Schr & ouml;dinger model with third- and fourth-order dispersions without the disturbance in parabolic law media and group velocity dispersion (GVD). The analytical method is used to produce traveling wave solutions because the inverse scattering transform is unable to solve the Cauchy problem for this equation. The utilized analytical approach is novel and providing generalized families of solutions as compared to other, thus, prior to this study, there was not existing any work in which suck kinds of solutions were exist. The propagating solitons are driven using the unified auxiliary equation approach. As a result, the aforementioned technique is learned in the following areas: singular soliton, shock solution, mixed-singular, mixed trigonometric, mixed shock single solution, plane solutions, exponential, trigonometry, mixed-hyperbolic solution, periodic and mixed periodic solutions, and trigonometry. The stability of the topic under consideration is shown by the modulational instability (MI) study. The appropriate parametric values are shown alongside the graphical representation.

Direction of impact for explainable risk assessment modeling

Several graphical indicators have been recently introduced to help analysts visualize the marginal effects of inputs in complex models. The insights derived from such tools may help decision-makers and risk analysts in designing interventions. However, we know little about the adequacy and consistency of different indicators. This work investigates popular marginal effect indicators to understand whether they yield indications consistent with the properties of the quantitative model under inspection. Specifically, we examine the notions of monotonicity, Lipschitz, and concavity consistency. Surprisingly, only PD functions satisfy all these notions of consistency. However, when selecting the indicators, in addition to consistency, analysts need to consider the risk of model extrapolation. For situations where such risk is under control, we utilize individual conditional expectations together with PD plots. Two applications, on a NASA space risk assessment model and a susceptible exposed infected recovered (SEIR) model for the COVID-19 pandemic illustrate the insights obtained from these indicators.

A Study on the Diversity and Cultural Characteristics of Decorative Patterns of Traditional Academies in Eastern China Based on Diversity Index and Social Network Analysis

Academies were a distinctive type of educational and cultural institution in ancient China, centers of private education, scholarly debate, and cultural preservation, and their architectural complexes typically integrated lecture halls, library buildings, ceremonial spaces, and gardens. The decoration of academy architecture embodies the essence of national civilization. In order to reveal the diversity of decorative patterns of traditional Chinese academy architecture and its cultural characteristics, this research focuses on traditional academy architecture in eastern China. This study uses diversity index determination to visualize and analyze the diversity of decorative patterns of academy architecture in eastern China and constructs a network model of decorative patterns using the social network analysis (SNA) method. This study reveals that in the traditional academy architecture of five provinces in eastern China, (1) the diversity of decorative patterns is remarkable, with regional characteristics, and shows a trend of unity within the region;(2) the network structure of decorative patterns shows remarkable stability on the whole, and the internal members of the pattern network system constructed with Confucian culture as the core are in close contact with each other;and (3) the cultural characteristics of decorative patterns are mainly reflected in the dominance of Confucian culture, the integration of Buddhist culture, and the uniqueness of regional culture, with Confucian culture occupying the main position that establishes the overall style and spiritual connotation of the decorative patterns in academy architecture. This study provides a new perspective and methodology for the study of traditional architectural decorative patterns, and by using comprehensive data analysis tools and quantitative methods, we are able to intuitively reveal the differences and connections of the cultural characteristics behind decorative patterns.

Probabilistic modeling and visualization for bankruptcy prediction

In accounting and finance domains, bankruptcy prediction is of great utility for all of the economic stakeholders. The challenge of accurate assessment of business failure prediction, specially under scenarios of financial crisis, is known to be complicated. Although there have been many successful studies on bankruptcy detection, seldom probabilistic approaches were carried out. In this paper we assume a probabilistic point-of-view by applying Gaussian processes (GP) in the context of bankruptcy prediction, comparing it against the support vector machines (SVM) and the logistic regression (LR). Using real-world bankruptcy data, an in-depth analysis is conducted showing that, in addition to a probabilistic interpretation, the GP can effectively improve the bankruptcy prediction performance with high accuracy when compared to the other approaches. We additionally generate a complete graphical visualization to improve our understanding of the different attained performances, effectively compiling all the conducted experiments in a meaningful way. We complete our study with an entropy-based analysis that highlights the uncertainty handling properties provided by the GP, crucial for prediction tasks under extremely competitive and volatile business environments. DB-MAIN: A next generation meta-case

This paper describes the DB-MAIN meta-CASE architecture that attempts to conciliate seemingly contradictory goals concerning efficiency, ergonomics, evolution, reuse and ontologies integration. The architecture is based on two layers, the first of which includes built-in basic concepts and functions that should be part of every Information System oriented CASE tool. The second layer comprises four meta-mechanisms intended to reuse, extend and specialize the basic constructs: ontology definition (through a dynamic repository), graphical interface definition, functional definition and methodology definition. These mechanisms are activated through four cooperating languages that allows the CASE engineer to customize the DB-MAIN environment from merely adapting the graphical interface to defining new modeling domains. SMART SPRAY ANALYTICAL SYSTEM FOR ORCHARD SPRAYER CALIBRATION: A-PROOF-OF-CONCEPT AND PRELIMINARY RESULTS

Efficient chemical spray applications are vital to reduce off-target drift, economic losses to tree fruit growers, and negative environmental impacts. It is thus important to adequately calibrate and adjust orchard sprayers for intended applications. This technical note describes the design, prototyping, and field evaluation of a sensor-based smart spray analytical system (SSAS). The SSAS is equipped with units for spray capturing and volumetric quantification, air-assist velocity measurement, system actuation and control, and data acquisition and wireless transmission. The spray liquid and air-assist velocity quantification units are assembled on a custom-made mobile frame for vertical stop-and-go movement to provide measurements at eight distinct sampling heights above ground level. The data acquisition and transmission units autonomously log the data on-board and transmit wirelessly to a receiving computer with time and height stamps for real-time graphical visualization. All these autonomous processes are guided by a custom programmable single-board computer. The SSAS was preliminarily evaluated for spray liquid and air-assist velocity pattern assessment of an air-assisted orchard sprayer in four sets of spray trials. An average spray liquid recovery of 14.03% and pertinent coefficient of variation (CV) of 10.73% were observed. An average CV of 11.93% was observed in the air-assist velocity patterns. Overall, the SSAS provided measurements within acceptable ranges of variation. This system can thus minimize the experimental errors, time, and efforts involved in conventional assessments of sprayer attributes, thereby providing a reliable solution for orchard sprayer calibration and adjustment.

A standards-based approach for Auto-drawing single line diagram of multivendor smart distribution systems

This paper presents a technique for the auto-drawing of single line diagram (SLD) of multivendor distribution systems. SLDs are used in electric power system visualization, which is very important for the control and monitoring of distribution systems for fault location, identification, separation, and service restoration. The task of auto-thawing an SLD for distribution systems has been made complicated due to the introduction of distributed generations and multivendor distribution systems. This paper proposes an algorithm for auto-drawing SLD, based on a ternary tree and collision avoidance algorithm. In addition, a standards-based approach is suggested for incorporating different distribution system planned and run by different vendors. Initially, client converts the distribution system diagram to a standard model, which is then sent to the server. The server draws the SLD by using the auto-SLD drawing algorithm and sends it back to the client, which can be verified by the client.
