Development of new ecological knowledge depends in part on the hypotheses that get tested, and little headway in establishing ecological truth is likely if hypotheses fail to reflect important spatial patterns. Careful exploration for spatial patterns during initial hypothesis formation-before tests of hypotheses and tests of statistical significance are pursued-is therefore essential. Exploratory analyses that rely on quantitative methods alone would preclude detection of important and unexpected spatial patterns that might be suggested or become apparent only through graphical visualization of spatial structure. Geographic mapping of spatial eigenvectors has the potential to improve knowledge about autocorrelation-related patterns by revealing pattern size, shape, geographic location, and directional orientation. Such map information is valuable because it may visually elicit insights about possible landscape- and regional-level drivers that no summary statistic, bivariate scatter plot, or statistical model alone could evoke. Including visual assessments of spatial structure in exploratory analyses may improve the chance that important spatial patterns will be discovered and hence considered during development of initial landscape- and regional-level hypotheses. These benefits in turn have the potential to strengthen the spatial validity of associated inferences.

This study proposes a methodological approach for extracting useful knowledge from survey data by performing Bayesian network (BN) modeling and adopting the robust coplot analysis results as prior knowledge about association patterns hidden in the data. By addressing the issue of BN construction when the expert knowledge is limited/not available, this proposed approach facilitates the modeling of large data sets describing numerously observed and latent variables. By answering the question of which node(s)/link(s) should be retained or discarded from a BN, we aim to determine a compact model of variables while considering the desired properties of data. The proposed method steps are explained on real data extracted from Turkey Demographic and Health Survey. First, a BN structure is created, which is based solely on the judgment of the analyst. Then the coplot results are employed to update the BN structure and the model parameters are updated using the updated structure and data. Loss scores of the BNs are used to ensure the success of the updated BN that inherits knowledge from coplot.

The availability of cellular markers tagged with the green fluorescent protein (GFP) has recently allowed a large number of cell biological studies to be carried out in live cells, thereby addressing the dynamic organization of cellular structures. Typically, microscopes capable of video recording are used to generate time-resolved data sets. Dynamic imaging data are complex and often difficult to interpret by pure visual inspection. Therefore, specialized image processing methods for object detection, motion estimation, visualization, and quantitation are required. In this review, we discuss concepts for automated analysis of multidimensional image data from live cell microscopy and their application to the dynamics of cell nuclear subcompartments. IMM/Graph is a visual model designed to help knowledge-base developers understand and refine the guideline logic for childhood immunization. The IMM/Graph model is domain-specific and was developed to help build a knowledge-based system that makes patient-specific immunization recommendations. A ''visual vocabulary'' models issues specific to the immunization domain, such as (1) the age a child is first eligible for each vaccination dose, (2) recommended, ''past due'' and maximum ages, (3) minimum waiting periods between doses, (4) the vaccine brand or preparation to be given, and (5) the various factors affecting the time course of vaccination. Several lessons learned in the course of developing IMM/Graph include the following: (1) The intended use of the model may influence the choice of visual presentation;(2) There is a potentially interesting interplay between the use of visual and textual information in creating the visual model;(3) visualization may help a development team better understand a complex clinical guideline and may also help highlight areas of incompleteness.

The dominant paradigm for searching and browsing large data stores is text-based: presenting a scrollable list of search results in response to textual search term input. While this works well for the Web, there is opportunity for improvement in the domain of personal information stores, which tend to have more heterogeneous data and richer metadata. In this paper, we introduce FacetMap, an interactive, query-driven visualization, generalizable to a wide range of metadata-rich data stores. FacetMap uses a visual metaphor for both input (selection of metadata facets as filters) and output. Results of a user study provide insight into tradeoffs between FacetMap's graphical approach and the traditional text-oriented approach.

We have developed a story creation system for children to make his/her own story whilst interacting with parents. To support the narrative interaction, the system includes a function for providing a question to create a story. The story will be created by choosing words and pictures given by the database. This paper proposes a matching based design where matching can be undertaken by a database of relatedness among words. Algorithms to modify the relatedness based on choices made by children are also presented. We visualize the database by a graph to verify if an appropriate modification is made.

The use of IoT technology enables web-based monitoring to statistically collect information related to measurements of electrical energy parameters, such as real time measurement of current (I), voltage (V) and power (P). This study aims to design a web-based real time monitoring system for electrical energy consumption inside a particular house. The sensing peripheral node was constructed using an ESP8266 controller chipset to steer a relay and a current sensor PZEM004T. The controller was programmed using the Arduino IDE application and exploiting the powerful performance of C language to build the codes. The web-based application interface was correspondingly created using the sublime text 3-text editor using the HTML;CSS programming languages as the frontend;and both PHP and MySQL software as the backend. Users could control the functional of the particular installed electronic devices using ON / OFF button directly through the designed website. Through this way, users may also observe the current and power values consumed by each operated devices. The cumulative power consumption profile for a certain time interval for each electronic appliances is also graphically visualized on the website menu. The practical testing results obtained the percentage of error current reading from the PZEM-004T sensor to the theoretical current value. From the data collection of an electric loads, the error percentage of the light bulb load is 0.5%, the rice cooker load is 0.7% and the dispenser load is 0.1%.
