A generic formal model for the comparison and analysis of distributed job-scheduling algorithms in grid environment

Nowadays, high-end Systems consist of thousands of individual devices which are in general heterogeneous. grid computing environments are an example of high-end systems which are composed of many diverse and heterogeneous resources distributed within multiple geographical areas. The performance of such systems depends considerably on job scheduling and resource allocation algorithms. Indeed, to improve the global throughput of these environments, effective and efficient load balancing algorithms are fundamentally important. In this paper, we propose a completely distributed formal model for the description of grid architecture. Our model, is then parameterized to describe different job-scheduling algorithms in a completely parallel architecture. In particular, we focus on the modeling and description of distributed load-balancing algorithms. To reach this purpose, we define a set of parallel schedulers communicating together to achieve a given load-balancing policy. To show the applicability of our approach, we propose to specify and compare different well-known job-scheduling policies in grid environments. The formal verification of different properties of the studied protocols has been performed automatically using Model-checking and a set of performance analysis results are also provided. With the improvements in wide-area network performance and powerful computers, it is possible to integrate a large number of distributed machines belonging to different organizations as a single system, for example, a grid computing environment. A grid computing environment involves cooperation and sharing resources among distributed machines. Users may dispatch their tasks to remote computing resources instead of just computing locally. Hence, task scheduling is an important issue in a grid computing environment. If a task is processed in parallel in a parallel machine, infra-communication overhead is inevitable and is an important factor affecting the task's processing time. Thus, instead of a free communication assumption, this paper takes intra-communication overhead into account. According to the models of parallel task and intra-communication overhead, the problem of scheduling independent parallel tasks with intra-communication overhead in a grid computing environment is investigated. In this paper, a heuristic algorithm for this problem is proposed, and the performance bounds of the heuristic algorithm for scheduling parallel tasks in the environment with message passing machines and in the environment with shared memory machines are derived as 9/2 and 5/2 respectively. Although this problem is mainly about assigning tasks to a grid computing environment, however, by proper transformation it can be applied to the workforce assignment problem.

The problem considered in this paper is motivated by recent studies in scheduling tasks in a grid computing environment. A grid infrastructure is a virtual organization that integrates a large number of distributed resources and high performance computing capabilities into a super service, which can be viewed as an agreement to share resources among independent organizations. Users may dispatch their tasks to the grid computing environment and use remote computing resources instead of computing locally. Hence, the issues of resource management and tasks scheduling are essential in a grid computing environment. As the problem of nonpreemptively scheduling independent multiprocessor tasks in a grid computing environment is NP-hard, we propose a heuristic algorithm for such a problem. We evaluate the performance of the heuristic algorithm not only by mathematical analysis, but also implementing the heuristic algorithm and exploring phenomena from the experimental results. The derived performance bound of the heuristic algorithm falls between (2-1/P) and (3-2/P), where P is the total number of processors in a grid computing environment. To explain the performance analysis of the heuristic algorithm, we implement the heuristic algorithm and discuss the observed phenomena from the experimental results.

The huge amount of biological information implies a great challenge for data analysis, particularly for combinatorial methods such as Multifactor Dimensionality Reduction. This method can be computationally intensive, especially when more than ten polymorphisms need to be evaluated. The grid is a promising architecture for genomics problems providing high computing capabilities. In this paper, we describe a framework for supporting the MDR method on grid environments. This framework helps biologists to automate the execution of multiple tests of gene-gene interactions detection. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed framework, we conduct experiments on the grid5000. A grid infrastructure distributed in nine sites around France, for research in large-scale parallel and distributed systems. compute-intensive.

Current academic Internet environment has enabled fast transfers of huge amounts of data, and has made high quality multimedia and collaborative applications a reality. This article describes a model for distributed multimedia retrieval which performs the retrieval of different multimedia to a variety of clients using learning automata algorithm named LAgridMSS. LAgridMSS allocates a proportion of bandwidth of each node for sending a specified file, and then applies learning automata to allocate packets of files to each node that contains the context. The files' popularity and the remainder bandwidth of nodes are two main factors here for allocating packets to each node. Simulation results show improvements in proposed model. LAgridMSS, in some QoS factors such as delay, jitter, and reliability compared to previous multimedia retrieval system such as gridMSS and gridMedia.

In grid computing environments, a resource control that considers not only the ability of computer resources but also available network resources is needed in order to execute parallel and distributed processing effectively. In particular, the execution performance of a grid application will sometimes decrease due to the congestion caused by multiple flows running on the same network path. Therefore, a network control scheme in grid computing environments should consider the multiple flows generated from its own application as well as from other applications. In this paper, we propose and evaluate its effect of a priority control scheme for multiple flows that are generated simultaneously, in order to reduce the execution time of the grid applications without reserving network resources. Moreover, a method for improving the effect of the priority control by using path selection is discussed, which distinguishes the priority flows from the other flows.

A Genetic Algorithm to Increase the Throughput of the Computational grids

High throughput computing (HTC) is of great importance in grid computing environments. HTC is aimed at minimizing the total makespan of all of the tasks submitted to the grid environment in long execution of the system. To achieve HTC in grids, suitable task scheduling algorithms should be applied to dispatch the submitted tasks to the computational resources appropriately. In this paper, a new task scheduling algorithm is proposed to assign the tasks to the grid resources with goal of minimizing the total makespan of the environment. The proposed algorithm uses genetic approach to find the most suitable match between the tasks and grid resources. The simulation results obtained from applying the proposed algorithm to schedule independent and sequential tasks to the grid resources demonstrate the applicability of the algorithm in grid environments.

grid technology has been proposed as a computing framework for gaining access to very large distributed computing resources. In order to fully utilize these resources, we need load sharing policy that can address the unique characteristics in grid infrastructure. In this paper, we extend our implicit load sharing policy by introducing the movable master node concept to hide an effect of the high latency in grid computing environment. The simulation results show that our proposed policy can achieve better parallel runtime in grid computing environment by moving the job pool to the proper master node.

The nanoscience explores the materials which are about 10/sup -9/ times smaller in size. It is the quantum mechanics (or mechanics) that governs the NANO world. A material treated in the nanoscience consists of an infinite or homogeneous system and finite or heterogeneous systems: for example, a protein (finite) in water (infinite) and a molecular wire (finite) connected to metal surface (infinite). It will be essential to combine the "heterogeneous" methodologies in number of different ways to create new theories or computational methods to investigate "heterogeneous" materials in the NANO world. We have been developing a new computational environment which is called grid. A newly developed method or computer program in a particular research node will be integrated into the collaborative research to be shared in "real time" by the group members scattered among the heterogeneous grid nodes. One of our concerns in the computational nanoscience is self-organization processes in solution such as micelle (or vesicle) formation and protein folding, in which "solvent" plays a crucial role.

Considering the dynamic characteristic and multi-management domains in grid computing, I design a model of combining inner-domain and cross-domain access control mechanism based on the intelligent agent and basic network access control technology. It's a try on setting a unified grid security strategy.
