We describe two Java applets which are useful for insightful presentation of intermediate experimental data in gene discovery projects involving large scale sequencing. One of these applets provides a physical map of a genomic region and provides easy access to the second applet, which furnishes a detailed map of sequence contigs associated with clones on the physical map. In particular, the second applet displays all the known information about each contig, including the presence of exons, database homology 'hits', repetitive elements and other features;the graphics are linked to other World Wide Web pages, providing detailed information on each feature. These applets should be useful to other research groups working on large sequencing projects. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.

We present an approach for automatically exploring relation schema and extracting data from html pages. By abstracting a DOM-tree constructed from a html page into a set of generalized lists, this approach automatically generates a relation schema for storing data extracted from the page. Based on this approach, we have developed a software system named as SEDE (Schema Explorer and Data Extractor for html pages), which can reduces the workload of extracting and storing data objects within html pages. This paper deals with the problems in the representation of phonetic symbols of Malayalam language in html page. These symbols are not the ones normally available on the computer keyboard. In many cases it used to be written by hand and only few symbols were available in the insert mode in the word processors and many times they were not compatible with html packages. This paper focuses on the phonemes and allophones of Malayalam and their transliteration and presentation on the web. The outcome of the study is a Table consisting of the Malayalam phonetic symbols with their respective Unicode numbers and an explanation of utility. This study is helpful in the usage of Unicode in representing Indian language fonts at all levels such as in language teaching materials, in creating web documents in descriptive linguistics, and in converting the printed documents to digital resources.

Webpage segmentation involves segmenting webpages into demarcate segments. Our observation states that relying on the background implementation of the webpage may not improve the accuracy of the segmentation. Instead, using the front end information fully helps the segmentation process fully. In this paper, we propose the use of a visual method in segmenting web pages. This technology is developed to be visually intelligent - to interpret web pages through its visual knowledge rather than the contemporary method of processing information through employing the web pages' back-end implementation. The structure of the visually rendered page is ordered in a hierarchical manner. The proposed technique can also be embedded into other system which can benefit those with visual defects such as the elderly, visual impaired or even individuals with bad eyesight.

In order to use data information in the Internet, it is necessary to extract data from web pages. An HTT tree model representing html pages is presented. Based on the HTT model, a wrapper generation algorithm AGW is proposed. The AGW algorithm utilizes comparing and correcting technique to generate the wrapper with the native characteristic of the HTT tree structure. The AGW algorithm can not only generate the wrapper automatically, but also rebuild the data schema easily and reduce the complexity of the computing.
