Cloud service is a convenient but insecure platform, which might suffer from the potential security risks, such as personal privacy leakage and illegal broadcasting. This paper proposed a reversible data embedding scheme in encrypted images using hamming coding. The sensitive data can be embedded into an encrypted image for privacy preserving. Later, the encrypted image can be restored back to the original one after extracting the hidden data In comparison with schemes [1-5], the proposed scheme provides higher hiding capacity. The experiments show the positive result to confirm its feasibility.

This paper proposes an information hiding algorithm using matrix embedding with hamming codes and histogram preservation in order to keep the histogram of the image unchanged before and after hiding information in digital media. First, the algorithm uses matrix embedding with hamming codes to determine the rewriting bits of the original image, rewrite and flip them, and successfully embed the secret information. Then, according to the idea of a break-even point, a balanced pixel frequency adaptive algorithm is proposed and each embedded bit of secret information is detected and compensated by the adjacent bit of histogram data, so that the histogram change of the image before and after information hiding is minimized At present, most of the histogram distortion values after steganography are generally over 1000 or even higher. As a contrast, the method proposed in this paper can keep the histogram distortion values to be less than 1000. The feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm are verified by relative entropy analysis as well. The experimental results also show that the algorithm performs well in steganographic analyses of images.

Enhanced Dual Reversible Data Hiding Using Combined Approaches

This paper proposes a reversible data hiding technique based on two cover images. The proposed method enhances performance by utilizing hamming coding (HC), arithmetic coding (AC), and an improved Exploiting Modification Direction (EMD) technique. Since AC provides lossless compression for binary data, it is widely used in image compression and helps maximize the efficiency of data transmission and storage. The EMD technique is recognized as an efficient data hiding method. However, it has a significant limitation: it does not allow for the restoration of the original cover image after data extraction. Additionally, EMD has a data hiding capacity limit of approximately 1.2 bpp. To address these limitations, an improved reversible data hiding technique is proposed. In this study, HC and AC are integrated with an improved EMD technique to enhance data hiding performance, achieving higher embedding capacity while ensuring the complete restoration of the original cover image. In the proposed method, hamming coding is applied for data encoding and arithmetic coding is used for compression to increase efficiency. The compressed data are then embedded using the improved EMD technique, enabling the receiver to fully restore the original cover image. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves an average PSNR of 66 dB and a data embedding capacity of 1.5 bpp, proving to be a promising approach for secure and efficient data hiding applications.

Performance enhancement for visible light communication based ADO-OFDM

The increasing demand for bandwidth through modern applications and multimedia services has led to high-speed wireless communications. Optical wireless communications (OWC) encourages solutions that provide a higher data rate due to the large bandwidth available. In this paper, performance enhancement approaches are studied and simulated for visible light communication (VLC) as a case study. The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems are used to investigate Intensity modulation/direct detection (IM/DD) to improve the performance of VLC. The IM/DD in OWC requires positive real OFDM symbols, so there are many approaches to satisfy this requirement. This paper proposes a model of Asymmetrically Clipped DC-Biased Optical (ADO-OFDM) to use in OWC/VLC environment. The proposed system has avoided the use of the noise cancellation technology that is used in traditional ADO-OFDM. The results show that the ADO-OFDM has the best spectral efficiency than DC-biased optical (DCO-OFDM) and Asymmetrically clipped optical (ACO-OFDM). Also, it has better optical efficiency than DCO-OFDM with the equally overall bit error rate (BER) at the same signal-to-noise ratio. hamming channel coding/decoding with different code lengths is applied in various optical OFDM schemes for BER improvements. Furthermore, we simulate and analyze these optical OFDM systems with many modulation orders.

Due to the fast development of telecommunications and the great demand of bandwidth, optical wireless communication (OWC) has become a promising trend. OWC offers flexible networks for both indoor and outdoor communications providing high security, high speed and a license free spectrum. Data transmission over indoor OWC systems with diffused channel model at high speed will extend the channel impulse response over several symbol periods with many reflections causing inter-symbol interference. This interference distorts the data symbols being transmitted and affects the signal recovery at the receiver side. This paper studies error control coding for OWC systems over additive white Gaussian noise and ceiling bounce channel models. It considers hamming coding and channel equalization for unipolar optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. The objective is to mitigate the channel distortion, and hence achieve reliable transmission and correct detection at the receiver side.

The aim of this paper is to use a software defined radio (SDR) based approach in order to select channel encoding and decoding method accordingly using 8-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) in terms of bit error rate (BER). By selecting a higher order format of QAM, we are able to carry more bits of information per symbol;also the data rate can be increased thus achieving greater distance between adjacent points in the I-Q plane by distributing the points more evenly. Hence the constellation points are more distinct and data errors are reduced. In the present work 8-QAM is chosen as modulation scheme so that balance can be maintained between higher data rates while maintaining an acceptable bit error rate for SDR. Channel coding schemes forward error correction are used where the re-transmission of the data is not feasible, thus redundant bits are added along with the message bits and transmitted through the channel. On the receiver side, this channel coded signal is decoded in order to get back the original data even if the channel coded signal undergoes some interference from the noise in the transmission medium. The performance is then analyzed in terms of BER for hamming and convolution coding algorithms at a particular value of SNR in LabVIEW graphical programming. With the help of LabVIEW we were able to design the systems in a block-based manner in shorter time as compared to the commonly used text-based programming languages.

Reliable and Energy-Efficient Multipath Communications in Underwater Sensor Networks

Weak reliability and low energy efficiency are the inherent problems in Underwater Sensor Networks (USNs) characterized by the acoustic channels. Although multiple-path communications coupled by Forward Error Correction (FEC) can achieve high performance for USNs, the low probability of successful recovery of received packets in the destination node significantly affects the overall Packet Error Rate (PER) and the number of multiple paths required, which in turn becomes a critical factor for reliability and energy consumption. In this paper, a novel Multiple-path FEC approach (M-FEC) based on hamming coding is proposed for improving reliability and energy efficiency in USNs. A Markovian model is developed to formulate the probability of M-FEC and calculate the overall PER for the proposed decision and feedback scheme, which can reduce the number of the multiple paths and achieve the desirable overall PER in M-FEC. Compared to the existing multipath communication scheme, extensive simulation experiments show that the proposed approach achieves significantly lower packet delay while consuming only 20-30 percent of energy in multiple-path USNs with various Bit Error Rates (BER).

Multi-path communication and Forward Error Correction (FEC) are able to reduce packet delay and improve reliability for high error-rate communications, such as satellite transmission networks, underwater acoustic networks and underground networks. This paper presents a new scheme to integrate FEC based on hamming Code (11-7) and multi-path communications to combat the inherent unreliability of wireless networks. Different from the traditional mechanisms, the proposed approach handles the segment of 11 - bit hamming Code as a unit to vote and reconstruct the original packet which can achieve the high efficiency of packet reconstruction. Performance results reveal that the proposed new scheme leads to significant performance improvement over the existing multipath based mechanisms.
