Mode-triggered droop method for the decentralized energy management of an islanded hybrid PV/hydrogen/battery DC microgrid

In a hydrogen-based DC microgrid (MG), the integration of hydrogen subsystem increases the system complexity and flexibility. Effective power split, bus voltage stability and reliable operation become significant control issues of hydrogen-based DC MG. This paper proposes a simple and effective decentralized energy management strategy based on a mode-triggered droop scheme for an islanded PV/hydrogen/battery DC MG. In a decentralized manner, the proposed decentralized energy management strategy is implemented through two control steps: mode divisions and droop control. For practical implementation purposes of the proposed energy management strategy, the mode divisions scheme autonomously divides this DC MG into eight operating modes based on the system local information;the adaptive droop control method controls the distributed generation units based on their droop relationships under different operating modes. In addition, an islanded DC MG hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) RT-LAB simulation platform and a lab-scaled experimental platform are built to validate the effectiveness of the proposed decentralized strategy. The simulation and experiment results show that the proposed energy management strategy has an efficient power distribution ability without communication link under various operating modes. Currently, almost all automotive and supplier companies are trying to expand Model Based Development (MBD) for control system development. To shorten the development period, concurrent development of hardware and software is effective. Moreover, the control logic complexity is becoming higher in accordance with the implementation of new sensors, actuators, improved control system performance, and increased the interface with another ECU. One significant process of the MBD is the ECU verification with the plant model installed in HILS. We describe some key points for HILS in Hybrid system development.

Modular multilevel converters (MMC) are used in the applications such as medium voltage multi-megawatt drives and in HVDC power transmission. The converter has several sub-modules connected in series that are switched appropriately to regulate the pole voltage. Besides regulation of output voltage, it is also essential to regulate the individual sub-module capacitor voltages. In this paper, a novel modulation scheme for an MMC converter based on carrier phase shifted PWM is proposed. The proposed modulation scheme balances the sub-module capacitor voltages without distortions in output voltage. The scheme combines the best features of the two well-known modulation approaches, namely, carrier-based modulation approach and sub-module insertion approach. Real-time simulation results modeling a single leg MMC converter using a Typhoon HIL system are presented to validate the performance of the proposed modulation scheme.

It has been shown that high seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) air conditioner compressor motors will stall during a voltage sag of 30 % or greater such as during a sub-transmission fault. When these motors stall, they draw two to three times their rated current and reactive power. The motor stall affects the entire power system beyond the duration of voltage drop of the fault resulting in a system-wide impact. This phenomenon is known as fault induced delayed voltage recovery (FIDVR) or slow voltage recovery (SVR). The FIDVR or SVR event is not only influenced by the air conditioner motor penetration but also by the voltage sensitivity of the load composition in the distribution system. In this study, the single-phase induction machine model that is available in the real time digital simulator (RTDS) is used to simulate the stall nature of these high SEER machines. This paper also addresses the effect of distribution system loads on FIDVR and analyzes the effect using RTDS. A group of the machine models are installed in a test power system along with constant impedance (Z), constant current (I), and constant power (P) load models to study the effect of these loads on the stall nature of the single phase induction machines.

To cope with the flexibility from both load side and supply side, nuclear power generation should provide flexible operation services to improve its economic competitiveness. The prerequisite of flexible operation is the real-time realization of the operation point which is usually achieved by unit coordinated control finding the setpoints of nuclear power, coolant flow and feedwater flow to meet various load demand and keep key parameters within reasonable limits. Modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor (MHTGR) is typically a small reactor and adopt adjustable helium flow, graphite and once through steam generator (OTSG) as coolant, moderator, heat exchanger, respectively. The thermal hydraulic characteristics of MHTGR are of significant difference compared with that of pressurized water reactor (PWR). As a result, the coordinated control design for MHTGR plant is quite different from the PWR. In this paper, the feedwater flow and control rods are solely used to regulate the steam temperature and nuclear power, respectively. Moreover, the so-called dynamic matrix control (DMC) then is utilized to realize the load match for MHTGR thermal power, where the setpoint of helium flow is regarded as manipulated variables and the modular thermal power is regarded as controlled variables to be optimized. The effectiveness of the proposed method is then tested and verified by a hardware-in-loop simulation through a commercial distributed control system (DCS).

This paper explores the transition from full-scale simulation to reduced-scale hardware-in-the-loop testing using Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR) for dual-source offroad electric vehicles. A comprehensive EMR model is developed, incorporating two energy sources (batteries and super capacitors). Full-scale simulation is established for further vehicle performance optimization. Reduced-scale hardware-in-the-loop testing creates a physical prototype, integrated with the EMR simulation platform for real-time interaction. This approach offers cost-effective validation of EMR-based strategies development, evaluating performance and energy management indicators. It enables iterative design improvements and rapid prototyping. Integration of the reduced-scale prototype with EMR simulation software facilitates seamless data exchange and control signal interaction. simulations on the prototype verify the accuracy and effectiveness of EMR-based strategies. Results are compared with full-scale simulation, establishing the reliability of the EMS model. This transition enables the development and validation of strategies for our off-road electric vehicle, ensuring accurate performance evaluation and optimization. The research demonstrates the potential of EMR as a valuable tool for advanced electric vehicle system design and development.

The nano-positioning system with long stroke is the key component of the micrometer and nanometer manufacturing and measurement devices, such as atomic force microscope (AFM), laser direct writing, nano-machining, lithography etc. In this paper a novel linear magnet-driven actuator is proposed. The Halbach magnetic array with air bearings is adopted as the mover. The winding of stator is ironless structure. The actuator has a nanometer scale positioning resolution. The designed stroke is 50 millimeter. The high-accuracy optical incremental encoder and subdividing system are employed to measure the motion of the mover, facilitating real-time feedback control. The hardware-in-loop simulation system of the actuator is set up based on XPC-target module in Matlab/Simulink toolbox. The parameter identification and Simulink control model of the actuator are implemented. Finally, the trial test and analysis are carried out. The results show the presented actuator could be operated with the positioning resolution of 9.5 nm root mean square (RMS).

Load simulator (LS) is a key equipment for rudder system in hardware-in-loop simulation experiment. In this paper, the present main research results of LS are reviewed. These methods are divided into four kinds based on their mechanism in suppressing "surplus torque/force" and their characteristics are analyzed. The mathematical model of electro-hydraulic load simulator is carried out and the source of "surplus torque" is discussed. A new strategy called "Dual-loop Control" is proposed to meet some new challenges. Extensive simulation results by means of AMESim confirm that this control scheme results in excellent ability against disturbance, as the same time, with the advantage of simple structure and easy of application.

Now most of the hybrid vehicle control strategies are aiming at the optimal fuel economy and driving cycle must be pre-known. Changing driving condition will influence the optimal results greatly. Therefore, a neural network controller (NNC) is proposed, which can improve fuel efficiency and the battery's SOC of a dual-mode hybrid vehicle in most driving conditions. The controller is trained through genetic algorithm to optimize the weights of the network. By using different driving cycle in the NNC training, this controller can be well functioned in variety conditions. The proposed NNC is testified through the hardware-in-loop simulation.

A hardware-in-loop simulation system via line of sight angle for MMW guidance and relative simulation method are presented. The simulation system is made up of a small quantity of hardware and is proved to be feasible by analyzing its system error theoretically. The effectiveness of the simulation system and method presented are tested by several experiments and the experiment results are proved to be authentic.
