In order to improve the dexterity of robots in complex environments and meet the people's requirements for robot work efficiency, the harmony search algorithm has been improved and integrated into the initial population generation process of genetic algorithm to optimize the parameters of traditional PID controllers. The simulation results show that the optimized harmonysearch genetic algorithm has better ability to handle nonlinear problems, improves the steady-state accuracy, response speed, and robustness of the controller, and can better complete complex environmental tasks.

Preparing an optimal exam timetable in universities is challenging for head of departments, especially for colleges with multiple number of departments, courses, and students. harmony search algorithm is used by many researchers to solve this problem but none of them could get an optimal solution. In this paper, a new algorithm which is called optimised harmony search algorithm with distributed selections is proposed by optimising the harmony search algorithm and the genetic algorithm. The new algorithm could satisfy hard, soft, and general constraints and generate an optimal exam timetable for a huge number of courses and students. The proposed algorithm is implemented and applied on Jadara University, the algorithm uses an upper triangular matrix to reduce relationships and memory usage, a three-dimensional matrix to ease the exams timetable management a deterministic number generators to eliminate timeslots conflicts, and backtracking algorithm to enhance the population selections. Lecturers and students' feedback showed a good satisfaction as well the system results.

To improve the searching effectiveness of the harmonysearch (HS) algorithm, an enhanced harmony search algorithm with circular region perturbation (EHS_CRP) is proposed in this paper. In the EHS_CRP algorithm, a global and local dimension selection strategy is designed to accelerate the search speed of the algorithm. A selection learning operator based on the global and local mean level is proposed to improve the balance between exploration and exploitation. Circular region perturbation is employed to avoid the algorithm stagnation and get a better exploration region. To assess performance, the proposed algorithm is compared with 10 state-of-the-art swarm intelligent approaches in a large set of global optimization problems. The simulation results confirm that EHS_CRP has a significant advantage in terms of accuracy, convergence speed, stability and robustness. Moreover, EHS_CRP performs better than other tested methods in engineering design optimization problems. Thus, the EHS_CRP algorithm is a viable and reliable alternative for some difficult and multidimensional real-world problems.

This paper introduces a new protection system for solar photovoltaic generator (SPVG)-connected networks. The system is a combination of voltage-restrained overcurrent relays (VROCRs) and directional overcurrent relays (DOCRs). The DOCRs are implemented to sense high fault current on the grid side, and VROCRs are deployed to sense low fault current supplied by the SPVG. Furthermore, a novel challenge for the optimal coordination of DOCRs-DOCRs and DOCRs-VROCRs is formulated. Due to the inclusion of additional constraints of VROCR, the relay coordination problem becomes more complicated. To solve this complex problem, a hybrid harmony search algorithm-Bollinger Bands (HSA-BB) method is proposed. Also, the lower and upper bands in BB are dynamically adjusted with the generation number to assist the HSA in the exploration and exploitation stages. The proposed method is implemented on three different SPVG-connected networks. To exhibit the effectiveness of the proposed method, the obtained results are compared with the genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), cuckoo searchalgorithm (CSA), HSA and hybrid GA-nonlinear programming (GA-NLP) method. Also, the superiority of the proposed method is evaluated using descriptive and nonparametric statistical tests.

In this study, we propose a method to find an optimal combination of hyperparameters to improve the accuracy of respiration pattern recognition in a 1D (Dimensional) convolutional neural network (CNN). The proposed method is designed to integrate with a 1D CNN using the harmony search algorithm. In an experiment, we used the depth of the convolutional layer of the 1D CNN, the number and size of kernels in each layer, and the number of neurons in the dense layer as hyperparameters for optimization. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method provided a recognition rate for five respiration patterns of approximately 96.7% on average, which is an approximately 2.8% improvement over an existing method. In addition, the number of iterations required to derive the optimal combination of hyperparameters was 2,000,000 in the previous study. In contrast, the proposed method required only 3652 iterations.

Marine water quality is affected by many factors and is difficult to evaluate accurately. An improved harmony search algorithm based on Gaussian disturbance (GDHS) is proposed to optimize the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy neural network (TSFNN) model of marine water quality evaluation. First, the basic harmony search algorithm is improved by the Gaussian disturbance global optimal harmony strategy and dynamic adjustment parameters. Second, the parameters of the T-S fuzzy neural network are optimized by GDHS to improve the stability and global convergence speed of the TSFNN. Finally, China's marine water quality standards and the actual conditions of the marine area to which the experimental data belong are considered, five indicators are selected to construct a neural network, and the water quality evaluation results of the data of 10 monitoring stations in the eastern waters of Qingdao show that the smaller the evaluation error of the GDHS-TSFNN model, the higher the accuracy.

In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with the increased flying times, improved command-control systems and carrying capacities have been used successfully for the various military and commerical projects. However, the time and qualities of the services provided by the mentioned vehicles are directly related with the locations determined previously or found instantly. In this study, an appropriate location of an UAV equipped with the base station capability for serving to the users is tried to be determined by utilizing from the harmonysearch (HS) algorithm. The results obtained by the HS algorithm are also compared with the results obtained by the PSO and ABC algorithms. Comparative results show that the mobile base station is capable of serving more successfully when its location is determined with the HS algorithm compared to the locations determined by the PSO or ABC algorithms.

This paper addresses a new optimization method for a variant of the category of orienteering problems (OP), which is well-known as the capacitated team orienteering problem (CTOP). The main objective of CTOP focuses on the maximization of the total collected profit from a set of candidate nodes or customers by taking into account the limitations of vehicle capacity and time upper boundary of a constructed route. To solve CTOP, we present a new optimization algorithm called the Similarity Hybrid harmonysearch. This methodology includes an innovative "similarity process" technique, which takes advantage the most profitable nodes/customers during the algorithmic procedure aiming to extend the diversification in the solution area. The experimental tests were conducted in the most popular set of instances and the obtained results are compared with most competitive algorithms in the literature.

Path planning represents an important optimization problem that need to be solved in various applications. It is a hard optimization problem thus deterministic algorithms are not usable but it can be tackled by stochastic population based metaheuristics such as swarm intelligence algorithms. In this paper we adopted and adjusted harmony search algorithm for the path planning problem in environment with static obstacles and danger zones. Objective function includes path length and safety degree. The proposed method was tested on standard benchmark examples from literature. Simulation results show that our proposed model produces better and more consistent results in spite of its simplicity.

In some studies, several inverters switching techniques have been introduced. Each switching scheme has its advantages and disadvantages depending on various applications. Among these switching schemes, Selective Harmonic Eliminated Pulse-Width Modulation Technique (SHEPWM) is a good choice due to a lower frequency and its PWM modulation Technique. In this switching, the harmonic elimination is subjected to the type of switching solution. Experience has shown that heuristics schemes can better solve harmonic problems. harmony search algorithm (HSA) is one of the methods that can be used to solve the nonlinear equations. In this paper, a new switching method is introduced, then it is used in a multi-level inverter of D-STATCOM to eliminate the harmonics. Finally, simulation results have been presented.
