With the acceleration of the construction of new power system, the intensity of power grid investment continues to climb, and enterprises must explore more reasonable and efficient power grid investment strategies to achieve the optimal benefits. Therefore, from the perspective of economy, society and environmental protection, the investment portfolio strategy for power grid project (PGP) is studied. First, the Shapley value method is applied to share the proportion of each benefit function to present the characteristics of different benefit indicators. Secondly, considering the key constraints such as investment capacity and load demand, the portfolio optimization model of PGPs is designed and solved. Finally, calculation examples are constructed to verify the portfolio strategy. The results show that the proposed method can assist the decision makers to develop the optimal grid investment strategy in the new situation. © 2024 IEEE.

Improved Particle Swarm Based on Elastic Collision for DNA Coding Optimization Design

In DNA computing, the design of DNA coding sequences is an important factor affecting the reliability of DNA computing. In different DNA sequence designs, suitable constraints should be selected and the sequence design should be rationalized according to these constraints. In this paper, an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm based on elastic collision strategy (EC-PSO) is used to optimize the design of DNA sequences by using an adaptation function that satisfies multiple constraints. EC-PSO uses the idea of elastic collision to improve the optimal and worst positions within the population, introduces the flight means of the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) to enhance the search capability of the algorithm and increase the diversity of the population;then introduces the harmony search algorithm to the population is then fine-tuned to improve the quality of the solution. The effectiveness of the algorithm was verified by comparing it with the other six algorithms in eight test functions. Finally, the sequence designed was more reasonable in the DNA optimal design experiment.

Optimizing Structure and Internal Unit Weights of Echo State Network for an Efficient LMS-Based Online Training

Echo state network (ESN) is a special type of recurrent neural networks (RNN) wherein a dynamic reservoir is used in the hidden layer, the weight of internal units of ESN is kept fix during training process, and output weights are the only trainable weights. Therefore, network training in an offline mode can be changed into a linear regression equation which is simply solved, although it is required to use online training of ESN in some applied problems. The least mean square (LMS) algorithm can provide an easy and constant method for online training of ESN;however, the huge eigenvalue spreads of the correlation matrix of internal network states reduce the speed of the algorithm convergence. In this study, harmony search algorithm (HSA) is used to optimally produce the structure and weight of internal network units. It is possible to significantly reduce the eigenvalue spreads of the correlation matrix of network states by means of this algorithm. Thereafter, the LMS algorithm is used for the online training of ESN built with the help of HSA. Already-obtained simulation results show that the eigenvalue spreads of the correlation matrix are reduced millions of times, and the LMS algorithm increases the online training speed of the network several times with an acceptable precision of training. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Multi-objective design optimisation of steel framed structures using three different methods

Purpose - The optimality objectives are the structure weight and embodied energy as well as calculating the cost and embodied carbon of the resulting optimum options. Three optimality algorithms developed in MATLAB, namely, genetic algorithms (GA), particle swarm optimisation (PSO) and harmony search algorithm (HSA), were used for structural optimisation to compare the effectiveness of the algorithms. Two life-cycle stages were considered, production and construction stages, which include three boundaries: materials, transportation and erection. In the formulation of the optimum design problem, 107 universal steel beams (UKB) and 64 columns (UKC) sections were considered for the discrete design variables. The imposed behavioural constraints in the optimum design process were set according to the provision of Eurocode 3 (EC3). The study aims to find the optimum solution of 2D steel frames whilst considering weight and embodied energy, investigate the performance of the analysis integrated with MATLAB and provide three examples to which all these are applied to. Design/methodology/approach - Undoubtedly, in structural engineering, the best design of any structure aims at the most economical and environmental option, without impairing the functional and its structural integrity. In the paper, multi-objective stochastic search methods are proposed for optimum design of three two-dimensional multi-story frames. Findings - Results showed that the optimised designs obtained by HSA are better than those found by the GA and PSO with an average difference of 16% from GA and PSO, where this difference increases at larger frame structures. It was, therefore, concluded that the integration of the analysis, design and optimisation methods employed in MATLAB can be effective in obtaining prompt optimum results during the decision-making stage. Design of buckling restrained steel braces using application programming interface between simulation and discrete optimization

In this study, buckling restrained braces (BRBs) are optimized through application programming interface be-tween simulation and discrete optimization. It is aimed to maximize the energy dissipation capacity of BRBs considering the American Institute of Steel Construction (ANSI/AISC 341). Unlike other studies, BRBs modeled in the finite element packaged software are directly linked to optimization algorithms. So, the geometric and material nonlinearities are also considered. harmony search algorithm (HSA), which simulates the improvisa-tion musician performances in finding pleasing harmony, and Black Widow Optimization algorithm (BWOA), which imitates inimitable paring attitude of black widow spiders, are taken as the optimizer tools of this study. They encoded in Microsoft Visual Basic programming language. Initially, the algorithmic performances of the HSA and BWOA are compared and evaluated on two benchmark structural engineering design problems. Af-terward, two different shaped BRBs are modeled in a finite element analysis (FEA) based software, namely ANSYS Workbench. Then, the obtained simulations are integrated with the HS and BWO algorithms throughout the application programming interface without identification of complex objective function and design con-straints in formulations. These are directly calculated by ANSYS Workbench over very simple formulas. So, the attained optimum designs of BRBs are investigated with a new approach. Furthermore, in order to see the su-preme algorithmic performances of the HSA and BWOA, all benchmark and BRB design problems are solved so-called well-established conventional standard Genetic algorithm (sGA). Eventually, the proposed novel design methodology gives opportunity and eases to the designers since it provides convenience in solving complicated problems having nonlinear objective function and design constraints that are tiresome to encode.

Optimized Blade Angle Controller to Enhance Wind Speed Variability Impacts

-This paper discusses the negative impact of wind farm penetration on the grid. This bad impact in this study is caused by wind farms due to wind speed variability. As wind turbines depend on wind speed to capture energy, this wind energy is assumed to be unpredicted due to the stochastic nature of wind. The paper focuses on that problem, wind speed variability, showing the most common solutions to overcome it. The paper presents pitch angle control as one of the most practical techniques experienced to overcome the wind speed variability challenge. Also, it illustrates the PID controller based on both harmony search Optimization and Whale Optimization algorithms. First, the paper compares the effect of applying optimized PID control on blade angles with both HSA and WOA in one season of the year. Then;it studies the most effective algorithm among them and applies it to the rest of the year seasons.

Optimal robust adaptive fuzzy backstepping control of electro-hydraulic servo position system

In this paper, an optimal robust adaptive fuzzy backstepping control is presented to the position control of the electro-hydraulic servo (EHS) system in the presence of structured and unstructured uncertainties. Initially, the robust control using the backstepping technique is presented to overcome the existing uncertainties in the dynamic equations. Mathematical proof demonstrates that the closed-loop system in the presence of uncertainties has a global asymptotic stability. Then, to overcome the chattering problem, a very simple fuzzy approximator is presented where it approximates the bounds of the uncertainties. Although the proposed robust fuzzy backstepping control has a desirable performance, it has no mathematical analysis to prove the stability of the closed-loop system. Therefore, to solve this problem, the proposed fuzzy approximator has been transformed into a one-law adaptive fuzzy approximator with a single-input single-output fuzzy rule. Mathematical analysis illustrates that the closed-loop system in the presence of uncertainties has a global asymptotic stability under the proposed robust adaptive fuzzy backstepping control. Furthermore, a novel modified harmony search algorithm (MHSA) has been developed, by using the original harmony search algorithm (OHSA) as an optimization technique, to achieve the optimal values of the membership functions and the control coefficients. Finally, a comparative study has been conducted between the proposed control scheme under the MHSA and the OHSA, and other existing advanced control approaches to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control. Results show that the proposed control scheme under the MHSA can suppress the chattering problem and reduce the disturbances effectively while ensuring that the performance is tracked.

Fuzzy Logic in Dynamic Parameter Adaptation of harmony search Optimization for Benchmark Functions and Fuzzy Controllers

Nowadays the use of fuzzy logic has been increasing in popularity, and this is mainly due to the inference mechanism that allows simulating human reasoning in knowledge-based systems. The main contribution of this work is using the concepts of fuzzy logic in a method for dynamically adapting the main parameters of the harmony search algorithm during execution. Dynamical adaptation of parameters in metaheuristics has been shown to improve performance and accuracy in a wide range of applications. For this reason, we propose and approach for fuzzy adaptation of parameters in harmony search. Two case studies are considered for testing the proposed approach, the optimization of mathematical functions, which are unimodal, multimodal, hybrid, and composite functions and a control problem without noise and when noise is considered. A statistical comparison between the harmony search algorithm and the fuzzy harmony search algorithm is presented to verify the advantages of the proposed approach.

Hybrid Feature Selection Method Based on harmony search and Naked Mole-Rat algorithms for Spoken Language Identification From Audio Signals

This era is dominated by artificial intelligence and its various applications - one of which is Spoken Language Identification (S-LID) which has always been a challenging issue and an important research area in the domain of speech signal processing. This paper deals with S-LID to be used for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) based applications by attempting to classify various languages from three multi-lingual databases namely CSS10: A Collection of Single Speaker Speech Datasets for 10 Languages, VoxForge and Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-Madras) speech corpus database by extracting their Mel-Spectrogram features and Relative Spectral Transform - Perceptual Linear Prediction (RASTA-PLP) features. A new hybrid Feature Selection (FS) algorithm have been developed using the versatile harmony search (HS) algorithm and a new nature-inspired algorithm called Naked Mole-Rat (NMR) algorithm to select the best subset of features and reduce the model complexity to help it train faster. This selected feature set is fed to five classifiers namely Support Vector Machine (SVM), k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN), Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP), Naive Bayes (NB) and Random Forest (RF). The evaluation measures used in this paper are precision, recall, f1-score, classification accuracy and number of selected features. An accuracy of 99.89% on CSS10, 98.22% on VoxForge and 99.75% on IIT-Madras speech corpus databases is achieved using RF. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is found to outperform 15 standard meta-heuristic FS algorithms. The source code of this work is available at: https://***/CodeChef97dotcom/***
