Present-day wireless methods are necessary to support a variety of higher-speed data communication facilities for its subscribers such as cloud-based video streaming facilities. One method to attain this is by using efficient resource allocation systems for transmitters and receivers using wireless communication methods. Wireless strategies and technologies are ubiquitous and enhancing progressively in the present world. In wireless communication technology, power and resource allocation remain the main issue due to the lack of resources by optimizing the number of subscribers and services. Hence, in this paper, we discuss different algorithms and techniques such as power-efficient resource allocation algorithm, real-time scheduling algorithm, NOMA, SCMA, Device-to-Device (D2D) communication, OFDMA, power and resource distribution in 5G, wireless sensor networks (WSNs), smart grids, cloud computing, and fog computing which converges stably and quickly. The harmony search algorithm is also another way used for resources in wireless communication networks and discussed in this paper.

Adaptive optimum coordination of overcurrent relays for deregulated distribution system considering parallel feeders

This paper proposes an adaptive optimum overcurrent protection for deregulated distribution networks containing parallel feeders. The proposed adaptive coordination eliminates the maloperation of conventional overcurrent protection under different fault scenarios. These scenarios take place when faults occur close to the end of the parallel feeders specially when faults are associated with significant fault resistances. Under these faults, the current at the backup relay is almost double that at the corresponding primary. Thus, adaptive pickup setting is recommended. However, this problem is complicated remarkably when distributed generation units feed the upstream source side faults or under the removal of the power source due to the interruption of a source side breaker. Simultaneously, the proposed coordination approach enhances the sensitivity and keeps on the optimum speed by automatically identifying the faulted zone. The faulted zone is identified by monitoring both the status concerning a single feeder or two parallel feeders in service and the faulted phase current direction of each pair of relays. Thus, a new fault direction identification method is presented. This method is based on comparing the angle of the post-fault current and that of the pre-fault current. Three optimization algorithms (genetic, harmony search, and water cycle algorithms) have competed to find the optimal settings of the installed overcurrent relays for each faulted zone. The reliability of the proposed method is examined as compared to conventional coordination concepts based on a detailed simulation of an actual 11-kV cascaded parallel series distribution feeder in the Egyptian distribution network. Sample results are examined.

Weight Optimization of Discrete Truss Structures Using Quantum-Based HS algorithm

Recently, a new field that combines metaheuristic algorithms and quantum computing has been created and is being applied to optimization problems in various fields. However, the application of quantum computing-based metaheuristic algorithms to the optimization of structural engineering is insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, we tried to optimize the weight of the truss structure using the QbHS (quantum-based harmony search) algorithm, which combines quantum computing and conventional HS (harmony search) algorithms. First, the convergence performance according to the parameter change of the QbHS algorithm was compared. The parameters selected for the comparison of convergence performance are QHMS, QHMCR, QPAR, & epsilon;, and & theta;r. The selected parameters were compared using six benchmark functions, and the range for deriving the optimal convergence performance was found. In addition, weight optimization was performed by applying it to a truss structure with a discrete cross-sectional area. The QbHS algorithm derived a lower weight than the QEA (quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm) and confirmed that the convergence performance was better. A new algorithm that combines quantum computing and metaheuristic algorithms is required for application to various engineering problems, and this effort is essential for the expansion of future algorithm development.

Power system frequency control enhancement by optimization of wind energy control system

Future trends are increasingly directed towards replacing traditional energy sources by new and renewable energy ones, with Wind Energy coming first in the row of these sources worldwide. The Egyptian electric power system still has a relatively low penetration level, around 3%, of Wind Energy to its generation mix. However, it is planned to increase this ratio to 14.6% by the year 2035. This paper studies the frequency dynamics associated with significant penetration levels of Wind Energy into the Egyptian grid, which leads to reducing the overall system inertia. The control strategy adopted depends on maximizing the wind energy contribution to frequency control, in order to compensate that reduction of system inertia. The Real data of the Egyptian power system model used is verified by the National Electricity Control Centre, updated to the latest values declared and tested under the lowest and highest loads recorded. A modified control loop is added to the control system in order to allow the Wind Energy Conversion System to significantly contribute to the Load Frequency Control. The PI controller gains used in that loop are tuned using three methods;Local Unimodal Sampling, harmony search algorithm and Equilibrium Optimizer (EO). The Equilibrium Optimizer (EO) proved its superiority to the other methods, as it gave the best dynamic response. The simulated results are presented using MATLAB/SMULINK. (C) 2021 THE AUTHORS. Multi-UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)-supported mobile edge computing system deploys multiple UAVs as flight edge clouds for large-scale users. In this system, how to optimize the deployment of UAVs is important for providing good service for all mobile users. Specifically, for each mobile user, we need to determine whether the task can be performed locally or on the drone (i.e., the unload decision) and how much resources should be allocated. In this paper, a new two-level optimization method is proposed for UAV deployment and task scheduling problem to minimize the system energy consumption. The proposed algorithm is named TSHGHSDE algorithm, in which a few features are designed to enhance the algorithm performance. Firstly, a two-stage optimization strategy is proposed based on HS-DE algorithm. In the early stage, HS algorithm is used for the local search in a limited space, and the DE algorithm is employed for the global search in the late stage. Secondly, we design an effective control parameter to adjust the search process, which aims to effectively combine the local search ability of HS algorithm and the global search ability of DE algorithm. Thirdly, a novel encoding mechanism is proposed in the process of the UAV deployment optimization. A global search strategy is designed to enhance the performance of the proposed algorithm. To assess the performance of the proposed algorithm, some well-known algorithms are used for comparison in experiments. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs better in terms of the search efficiency, search accuracy and stability.

Size and Topology Optimization of Truss Structures Using Quantum-Based HS algorithm

With the development of various metaheuristic algorithms, research cases that perform weight optimization of truss structures are steadily progressing. In particular, due to the possibility of developing quantum computers, metaheuristic algorithms combined with quantum computation are being developed. In this paper, the QbHS (Quantum based harmony search) algorithm was proposed by combining quantum computation and the conventional HS (harmony search) algorithms, and the size and topology optimization of the truss structure was performed. The QbHS algorithm has the same repetitive computational structure as the conventional HS algorithm. However, the QbHS algorithm constructed QHM (Quantum harmony Memory) using the probability of Q-bit and proposed to perform pitch adjusting using the basic state of Q-bit. To perform weight optimization of truss structures using the proposed QbHS algorithm, 20 bar, 24 bar, and 72-bar truss structures were adopted as examples and compared with the results of the QE (Quantum Evolutionary) algorithm. As a result, it was confirmed that the QbHS algorithm had excellent convergence performance by finding a lower weight than the QE algorithm. In addition, by expressing the weight optimization results of the truss structure with an image coordinate system, the topology of the truss structure could be confirmed only by the picture. The results of this study are expected to play an important role in future computer information systems by combining quantum computation and conventional HS algorithms.

Optimization techniques attracts researchers to formulate a problem and determine its optimum solution. This paper presents an Enhanced harmony search (ENHS) algorithm for solving optimization problems. The proposed algorithm increases the convergence and is more efficient than the standard harmony search (HS) algorithm. The paper discusses the novel techniques in detail and also provides the strategy for tuning the decisive parameters that effects the efficiency of the ENHS algorithm. The algorithm is tested on various benchmark functions, a real world optimization problem and a constrained objective function. Also, the results of ENHS are compared to standard HS, and various other optimization algorithms. The ENHS algorithms proves to be significantly better and more efficient than other algorithms. The simulation and testing of the algorithms is performed in MATLAB.

A novel robust model for location-allocation of healthcare facilities considering pre-disaster and post-disaster characteristics

Healthcare centers are one of the most important municipal facilities that are responsible for providing personal and social health. Locating medical centers is an important strategy to improve the performance of these facilities and reduce any delay in the relief process. During disasters, these centers play a critical role in reducing the risk of human casualties. In this regard, the current study aims to establish a new robust mathematical model to simultaneously locate and allocate healthcare facilities, including different levels of medical care services, considering the characteristics in normal and disaster situations. Further, to help victims and prevent overcrowding at medical centers during disasters, establishment of temporary and outpatient centers was suggested for emergency provision of basic services. In addition, the possibility of delivering the needed equipment and medical teams to these centers was incorporated in the proposed modeling. To solve the problem, two metaheuristic algorithms, harmony search algorithm and hybrid tabu search combined with variable neighborhood search algorithm, and a lower bound based on Lagrangian relaxation method were employed. To assess the performance of the proposed algorithms, sample problems were randomly generated. The results obtained from the exact solutions and lower bound from the Lagrangian relaxation method were compared with those from the meta-heuristic algorithms, confirming the good performance of the proposed algorithms. The optimization of dam operations to transform them into multi-objective facilities constitutes a challenge for both hydrology, hydrogeology, and hydropower generation. However, the use of the optimal algorithm for such transformation is critically important. Additionally, the literature has highlighted that dams might negatively influence the recharge of groundwater. Within this study, we provide an overview of the available algorithms for the optimization of dam operations. Additionally, an overview focusing on hydropower generation in Greece illustrates the high potential of the Mediterranean region for hydropower generation and the application of MAR. The water quality of the reservoirs is also highlighted as a critical parameter. Within this study, we present indices for water quality monitoring in dam reservoirs, while the most prevailing index is the SRDD. This study constitutes a guide for researchers in choosing the optimal tools for the optimization of dam operations and the water quality monitoring of reservoirs. The present study suggests a meta-heuristic optimization methodology using the harmony search algorithm. The model uses a geometric model of the reservoir and calculates the level-supply curve. Furthermore, a multi-criteria optimization model was developed with two objective functions: the maximum power output from the hydroelectric power plant turbines and the optimal groundwater recharge. The model with appropriate parameter modifications can be applied to any small dam as it is a decision- and policy-making methodology, independent of local conditions. A further step is the application of these approaches dealing with field data and the numerical modeling of case studies. The interdisciplinary approach of this study links deferent aspect and scientific perceptions, providing a comprehensive guide to optimal water resource management and environmental sustainability.

Multi-objective Soft Computing Approaches to Evaluate the Performance of Abrasive Water Jet drilling Parameters on Die Steel

In the current manufacturing methods, improvement in process performance will be resulting in huge benefits to the industries. For the improvement in part or product quality, the machining process must be operating with the optimal parameters, and thus, quality attributes can be produced. It applies to one of the modern machining techniques such as abrasive water jet (AWJ) as the use of this technique is growing rapidly in manufacturing industries for needful applications. Therefore, the present work is proposed to find the optimal level of AWJ parameters such as water jet pressure, stand-off distance, abrasive mass flow rate for drilling die steel with the simultaneous minimization of drilled hole features such as surface roughness, circularity, and cylindricity by using an unusual metaheuristic technique, namely harmony search algorithm (HSA). In addition, taguchi grey relational analysis (TGRA) was performed and their results were compared with the HSA technique. The multiple linear regression models were developed for each response, and the same were used in HSA to determine the optimum parameters for the minimization of responses where the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method was employed to convert the multi-objectives into single objective. In this study, the efficacy of HSA technique was demonstrated with the hole features of die steel. The results proved that the HSA technique had outperformed the TGRA based on the overall improvement in AWJ drilling performance on die steel, and the predicted process attributes such as surface roughness of 1.53625 mu m, circularity of 0.04370 mm, and cylindricity of 0.02459 mm were obtained at water jet pressure of 275.4 MPa, stand-off distance of 3.96 mm, and abrasive flow rate as 0.25 kg/min. Also, the percentage deviation error (< 6%) of the predicted hole features of HSA is acceptable and analogous to the experimental results. Hence, it is confirmed that a new metaheuristic alg
