To improve the optimization performance of harmony search algorithm, an improved novel global harmonysearch(INGHS) algorithm with new improvisation process is proposed in this paper. INGHS algorithm is presented to address robust pole assignment for descriptor system with all the finite poles restrict in an arbitrary specified circular region. The object is converted into a nonlinear optimization problem with constraints for the transient performance request. In terms of the robust circular region stability constraints, the upper bound of the spectral norm for the perturbation or the uncertainty is optimized such that the desired poles of the closed-loop system and the state feedback controller can be optimized simultaneously. To evaluate the performance of the proposed INGHS algorithm, comparison with other harmonysearch variants algorithm for the problem is carried out. Finally, the simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper presents a new strategy includes of fuzzy PID controller and Flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices in power system for damping the oscillation. This models improves the stability in multi-machine power system by coupling the fuzzy controller with an intelligent algorithm and equipping the FACTS devices to control voltages and power flows. Also, the thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) as well as Static VAR Compensator (SVC) effects have been considered in this design. The harmony search algorithm (HSA) is applied in this model for fine tuning of the fuzzy PID parameters through time overriding and stability enhancement of proposed controller. Effectiveness of the proposed approach is applied over standard multi-machine power system through comparison with other techniques. Obtained results demonstrate the validity of proposed strategy.

To deal with the default of harmony search algorithm (HSA) of trapping into local optima for search for optimization results. An improved algorithm-harmonysearch has been presented in this paper. And inspired by big data analysis, I present a new concept-analysis and application of historical data. A mass of data, generated in the search process of the HSA, can be used to set up an instructive think tank to guide the optimizing search instead of the optimal solution and elitist solution app: addword: Elitist solution. After that, a probability distribution model is built according to historical data to forecast search trend. Specifically, the following tasks will be carried out and applied in image processing. The experience results have been proved that the new model would get better results than harmony search algorithm.

Since the development of Smart Grid (SG), Home Energy Management (HEM) systems are emerged widely into it and consumers have an opportunity to schedule their smart appliances efficiently in smart homes. In this research, meta-heuristic techniques harmony search algorithm (HSA), Pigeon Inspired Optimization (PIO) and our proposed harmony Pigeon Inspired Optimization (HPIO) are adopted to efficiently schedule smart appliances in smart home. The aim of using the above proposed techniques is to reduce Electricity Cost (EC) and Peak-to-Average Ratio (PAR). HEM is proposed to further evaluate the performance of evaluated techniques. In this work, single home and multiple homes which consist of 10,30 and 50 homes are considered equipped with multiple smart appliances. These appliances are divided into three sets, which are thermostatically and non-thermostatically controllable, and non-controllable appliances under Time-of Use (ToU) pricing scheme. Simulations are carried out on these parameters and results shows that proposed technique HPIO performed better than HSA and PIO in terms of minimizing waiting time and PAR. We have considered User Comfort (UC) in terms of waiting time.

The hybrid approach combine with the strength of harmony search algorithm and teaching-learning-based optimization algorithm, which is aim to enhance the global search ability and local exploitation cababillity. Moreover, A new learning operation is used in learning phase for improving learning efficiency. Several classic engineering cases are selected to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. In this paper, a local-best harmonysearch (HS) algorithm with dynamic sub-harmony memories (HM), namely DLHS algorithm, is proposed to minimize the total weighted earliness and tardiness penalties for a lot-streaming flow shop scheduling problem with equal-size sub-lots. First of all, to make the HS algorithm suitable for solving the problem considered, a rank-of-value (ROV) rule is applied to convert the continuous harmony vectors to discrete job sequences, and a net benefit of movement (NBM) heuristic is utilized to yield the optimal sub-lot allocations for the obtained job sequences. Secondly, an efficient initialization scheme based on the NEH variants is presented to construct an initial HM with certain quality and diversity. Thirdly, during the evolution process, the HM is dynamically divided into many small-sized sub-HMs which evolve independently so as to balance the fast convergence and large diversity. Fourthly, a new improvisation scheme is developed to well inherit good structures from the local-best harmony vector in the sub-HM. Meanwhile, a chaotic sequence to produce decision variables for harmony vectors and a mutation scheme are utilized to enhance the diversity of the HM. In addition, a simple but effective local search approach is presented and embedded in the DLHS algorithm to enhance the local searching ability. Computational experiments and comparisons show that the proposed DLHS algorithm generates better or competitive results than the existing hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) and hybrid discrete particle swarm optimization (HDPSO) for the lot-streaming flow shop scheduling problem with total weighted earliness and tardiness criterion. This paper proposes a multi-objective harmonysearch (MONS) algorithm For optimal power flow (OPF) problem. OPF problem is formulated as a non-linear constrained multi-objective optimization problem where different objectives and various constraints have been considered into the formulation. Fast elitist non-dominated sorting and crowding distance have been used to find and manage the Pareto optimal front. Finally, a fuzzy based mechanism has been used to select a compromise solution from the Pareto set. The proposed MONS algorithm has been tested on IEEE 30 bus system with different objectives. Simulation results are also compared with fast non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) method. It is clear from the comparison that the proposed method is able to generate :rue and well distributed Pareto optimal solutions for OPF problem. (c) 2011 Ebevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A method based on harmony search algorithm (HSA) for the pattern synthesis of linear antenna arrays with the prescribed nulls is presented. Nulling of the pattern is achieved by controlling the amplitude-only, the phase-only, and the position-only. The HSA is conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. To show the effectiveness of the proposed HSA, several examples of linear antenna array patterns with the imposed single, multiple and broad nulls are given. It is found that the nulling method based on HSA is capable of steering the array nulls precisely to the undesired interference directions. The results of HSA are compared with the results of the modified touring ant colony optimization (MTACO), the bees algorithm (BA), the bacterial foraging algorithm (BFA), the plant growth simulation algorithm (PGSA), the clonal selection algorithm (CLONALG), the particle swarm optimization (1,50), the quadratic programming method (QPM), the tabu searchalgorithm (TSA), the genetic algorithm (GA), the memetic algorithm (MA), the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm 2 (NSGA-2), the multiobjective differential evolution (MODE), and the multiobjective evolutionary algorithms based on decomposition with differential evolution (MOEA/D-DE).
