In this study, solution models are proposed to obtain code-compatible ground motion record sets which can be used for both uni-directional and bi-directional dynamic analyses. Besides scaled, unscaled ground motion record sets are obtained to show the utility and efficiency of the solution models. For scaled ground motion sets the proposed model is based on hybrid HS-Solver which integrates heuristic harmonysearch (HS) algorithm with the spreadsheet Solver add-in. For unscaled ground motion sets HS based solution model is proposed. Design spectra defined in Eurocode-8 for different soil types are selected as target spectra. The European Strong Motion Database is used to get ground motion record sets. Also, a sensitivity analysis is conducted to evaluate the effect of different HS solution parameters on the solution accuracy. Results show that the proposed solution models can be regarded as efficient ways to develop scaled and unscaled ground motion sets compatible with code-based design spectra.

A classifier ensemble combines a set of individual classifier's predictions to produce more accurate results than that of any single classifier system. However, one classifier ensemble with too many classifiers may consume a large amount of computational time. This paper proposes a new ensemble subset evaluation method that integrates classifier diversity measures into a novel classifier ensemble reduction framework. The framework converts the ensemble reduction into an optimization problem and uses the harmony search algorithm to find the optimized classifier ensemble. Both pairwise and non-pairwise diversity measure algorithms are applied by the subset evaluation method. For the pairwise diversity measure, three conventional diversity algorithms and one new diversity measure method are used to calculate the diversity's merits. For the non-pairwise diversity measure, three classical algorithms are used. The proposed subset evaluation methods are demonstrated by the experimental data. In comparison with other classifier ensemble methods, the method implemented by the measurement of the interrater agreement exhibits a high accuracy prediction rate against the current ensembles' performance. In addition, the framework with the new diversity measure achieves relatively good performance with less computational time.

The Smart Grid(SG) has widely supported the electric power from the Distributed Generation(DG). It becomes a practical standard to generate the electric power from a renewable energy into the distribution system to compensate for the power demand, especially in the peak time. However, the advancement of the SG continuing with the classical problem of active power loss as the traditional grid. This research aimsto solve the active power loss problem by analyzing the elements and study to solve, in the scope of the organization that provides the electrical power. In order to solve the problem, the solutions can be achieved by feeder routing with adjusting cost Dijkstra's algorithm, afterward decided the allocation and sizing of DG by using the Evolutionary Computing(EC) which are harmonysearch(HS), Artificial Bee Colony(ABC), and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) algorithms. The experiment evaluates the performance of the algorithm usingpower flow analysis, Backward/Forward Sweep Method, on the IEEE 33-bus system. From the experimental result, the PSO provides the best performance. The overall active power loss in the case 3 DGs was reduced from 202.67 to 52.29 k W, representing 74.20%reduction.

Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) technique is the fundamental switching frequency scheme that is used to eliminate specific order harmonics. Its application to minimize low order harmonics in a three level inverter is proposed in this paper. The modulation strategy used here is SHEPWM and the nonlinear equations, that characterize the low order harmonics, are solved using harmony search algorithm (HSA) to obtain the optimal switching angles that minimize the required harmonics and maintain the fundamental at the desired value. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the output voltage is minimized maintaining selected harmonics within allowable limits. A comparison has been drawn between HSA, Genetic algorithm (GA) and Newton Raphson (NR) technique using MATLAB software to determine the effectiveness of getting optimized switching angles.

In this paper, a novel approach is presented to find the optimal adjustment of Automatic Generation Control (AGC) system in a two-area power system. In the proposed method, a newly developed harmony search algorithm is implemented to solve the non-convex non-linear problem of AGC. In order to show efficiency of the proposed approach, the response of HSA-Optimized system to disturbances is compared with the results of GA-Optimized system. The cost function of the proposed problem is considered based on Integral of Time Multiplied Square Error (ITSE). In order to improve the system performance, frequency bias factor (FBF) is modeled in the problem and the proposed method is implemented in a non-linear interconnected two area power system. Simulation results verified that employing the proposed approach in optimization process of control system would guarantee a better system performance comparing to other methods.

An accurate and effective technology for fault diagnosis of a high-voltage transmission line plays an important role in supporting rapid system restoration. The fault diagnosis of a high-voltage transmission line involves three major tasks, namely fault-type identification, fault location and fault time estimation. The diagnosis problem is formulated as an optimisation problem in this work: the variables involved in the fault diagnosis problem, such as the fault location, and the unknown variables such as ground resistance, are taken into account as optimisation variables;the sum of the discrepancy of the approximation components of the actual and expected waveforms is taken as the optimisation objective. Then, according to the characteristics of the formulated optimisation problem, the harmonysearch, an effective heuristic optimisation algorithm developed in recent years, is employed to solve this problem. Test results for a sample power system have shown that the developed fault diagnosis model and method are correct and efficient.

In this paper, we use a recently proposed algorithm-novel global harmonysearch (NGHS) algorithm to solve unconstrained problems. The NGHS algorithm includes two important operations: position updating and genetic mutation with a low probability. The former can enhance the convergence of the NGHS, and the latter can effectively prevent the NGHS from being trapped into the local optimum. Based on a large number of experiments, the NGHS has demonstrated stronger convergence and stability than original harmonysearch (HS) algorithm and its two improved algorithms (IHS and SGHS). This study aims at comparing the optimum design of two common types open web expanded beams: with hexagonal openings, also called castellated beams and beams with circular openings referred to as cellular beams. The minimum weights of both beams are taken as the objective functions while the design constraints are respectively implemented from The Steel Construction Institute Publication Numbers 5 and 100. The design methods adopted in these publications are consistent with B55950 parts. The formulation of the design problem considering the limitations of the above mentioned turns out to be a discrete programming problem. Improved harmony search algorithm is suggested to compare the optimum design of mentioned web-expanded beams to analysis the performance of both beams. The design algorithms based on the technique select the optimum Universal Beam sections, dimensional properties of hexagonal and circular holes and total number of openings along the beam as design variables.

A novel optimization approach for reinforced concrete (RC) biaxially loaded columns is proposed. Since there are several design constraints and influences, a new computation methodology using iterative analyses for several stages is proposed. In the proposed methodology random iterations are combined with music inspired metaheuristic algorithm called harmonysearch by modifying the classical rules of the employed algorithm for the problem. Differently from previous approaches, a detailed and practical optimum reinforcement design is done in addition to optimization of dimensions. The main objective of the optimization is the total material cost and the optimization is important for RC members since steel and concrete are very different materials in cost and properties. The methodology was applied for 12 cases of flexural moment combinations. Also, the optimum results are found by using 3 different axial forces for all cases. According to the results, the proposed method is effective to find a detailed optimum result with different number of bars and various sizes which can be only found by 2000 trial of an engineer. Thus, the cost economy is provided by using optimum bars with different sizes.

The classical harmonysearch (HS) algorithm has been improved. The algorithm effectively prevents it from becoming trapped by a local optimal solution. It allows to be used to deale the shortest-path issue. To solve the shortest route problem, we improved the classical harmonyalgorithm and seek the optimal solution in the global scope. Second, by the application of the dynamic priority value encoding scheme, we constructed the path based on the priority value of correspondent nodes of variables in the harmonic vector. Through the iterative update of the harmony memory banks, we finally obtained the shortest route. Finally the simulation experiments show us that the proposed algorithm is better than PSO algorithm and HS algorithm on the performance.
