Design optimization of a stand-alone green energy system of university campus based on Jaya-harmony search and Ant Colony Optimization algorithms approaches

The use of renewable energy resources in the production of electrical energy is becoming prevalent due to the decreasing installation costs of these resources and increasing environmental concerns. A Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) is beneficial for meeting load demands, but optimal sizing is the main problem in the process of obtaining a cost-efficient system based on certain load demands and technoeconomic parameters. In this article, the harmony search (HS) algorithm was used for the optimal sizing of components and compared to other methods. The HRESs consisted of photovoltaic (PV), wind turbine, battery, diesel generator and inverter components. A powerful rule-based energy management scheme was introduced to manage the power flow between system parts which constitute the microgrid that will minimize the annual system cost and reliably meet the energy demand. The decision variables for this optimization were the PV panel power, wind power, and the number of batteries. Simulation results revealed that HS provided the optimum sizing among the other methods including HOMER, Ant Colony Optimizer and Jaya. The time performances of the algorithms were also examined, and the HS algorithm had better performance and convergence properties. over the years the science has developed rapidly. And the Optimization science also has been developed to solve the difficult problems. Now the optimization science is the tendency to solve several problems by applying algorithms and optimization methods (Meta heuristics algorithms). In the previous decades, the researchers have worked and solved their problems with limited optimization methods (deterministic methods), that provide exact solution. But now these methods are not effective for the very complex problems, and this obstacle push the researchers to build other methods. In this paper a big state of art, and a very important comparative study are proposed. We talk about the state of art to more understand the methods and algorithms of optimization, also their procedure. For the comparative study we propose some algorithms of optimization next to the harmony search Algorithm (HS), we applied this algorithms on some tests functions to prove why harmony search is successful.

Application of Static Var Compensator (SVC) With PI Controller for Grid Integration of Wind Farm Using harmony search

Large-scale integration of wind turbine generators (WTGs) may have significant impacts on power system operation with respect to system frequency and bus voltages. This paper studies the effect of Static Var Compensator (SVC) connected to wind energy conversion system (WECS) on voltage profile and the power generated from the induction generator (IG) in wind farm. Also paper presents, a dynamic reactive power compensation using Static Var Compensator (SVC) at the a point of interconnection of wind farm while static compensation (Fixed Capacitor Bank) is unable to prevent voltage collapse. Moreover, this paper shows that using advanced optimization techniques based on artificial intelligence (AI) such as harmony search Algorithm (HS) and Self-Adaptive Global harmony search Algorithm (SGHS) instead of a Conventional Control Method to tune the parameters of PI controller for SVC and pitch angle. Also paper illustrates that the performance of the system with controllers based on AI is improved under different operating conditions. MATLAB/ Simulink based simulation is utilized to demonstrate the application of SVC in wind farm integration. It is also carried out to investigate the enhancement in performance of the WECS achieved with a PI Controller tuned by harmony search Algorithm as compared to a Conventional Control Method.

Optimal Pulse Shifting in Timed Antenna Array for Simultaneous Reduction of Sidelobe and Sideband Level

Optimal pulse shifting in timed antenna array for the reduction of sidelobe and sideband using improved harmony search algorithm (IHSA) dealt in this paper. The essence of 'Time-modulation' lies in the fact that 'Time' can be used as an additional control parameter in antenna array synthesis. The proposed approach demonstrates the controlling nature of periodic time sequences through pulse shifting. The undesired sideband radiations (SRs) generated in time modulated linear array (TMLA) is controlled by minimizing the sideband levels (SBLs) with an optimal pulse shifting scheme applied to the outer elements of the array. Evolutionary algorithm-based design is considered to optimize the time sequences and the excitation coefficients of the array along with the inter-element spacing between the array elements for sidelobe level (SLL) reduction at the fundamental frequency. Pulse shifting with optimized switch-ON instants and switch-ON time intervals of outer elements is responsible for the minimization of SBL only, as the fundamental pattern does not depend on pulse shifting. Thus, a combined approach is developed with optimized excitation coefficients and controlled pulse switching to reduce the SLL and SBL of TMLA simultaneously. 16 and 30 isotropic elements of TMLA structures are considered with a music-inspired IHSA to get the optimal solution. IHSA based numerical results are compared with the results obtained from other applied algorithms such as harmony search algorithm (HSA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and real-coded genetic algorithm (RGA) with the proposed pulse shifting scheme. The obtained numerical results are also compared with previously published literature results to show the superior performance achieved by the proposed approach.

Inter-cell interference (ICI) is one of the key challenges that limit the performance of Long Term Evolution and Long Term Evolution Advanced cellular systems. One approach to deal with ICI is through interference avoidance. Unlike static avoidance techniques where a-priori frequency planning and/or explicit inter-cell coordination is used, dynamic avoidance techniques rely on adapting its frequency planning and allocation based on the current state of the network. However, this improvement in performance comes with the cost of an increased complexity due to the coordination and alignments needed among the base stations (eNB) to manage and allocate channels among the users. Accordingly, autonomous ICI coordination techniques are receiving much interest among the various interference avoidance techniques. In this paper, we propose an autonomous self-adaptive scheme (SA, for short) for radio resource management and interference coordination. We then extend the proposed scheme to become self-adaptive power-aware (SAPA) in order to optimize and reduce the transmission power of the eNBs. A key feature in the proposed schemes is that all computations are independent of the number of users and cells in the network. This allows the proposed schemes to adapt to networks of any size and with an arbitrary number of users. Extensive simulation confirms that the proposed SA scheme ensures efficient frequency reuse patterns that lead to significant performance improvements in the throughput of the edge users without affecting other users. Moreover, the SAPA scheme achieves significant improvement in the power efficiency, while maintaining the throughput enhancements achieved by the SA scheme for both center and edge users.

Inadequately labeled data can limit the accuracy of classification in image recognition tasks. Several methods have been proposed in the past to alleviate this limitation, such as transfer learning and data augmentation. However, the classification accuracy of the convolutional neural network (CNN) largely depends on its structural parameters, which are known as hyper-parameters. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce another method for minimizing the misclassification rate in a given small dataset by determining the hyper-parameters. The harmony search (HS) algorithm, improved harmony search (IHS) algorithm, self-adaptive global best harmony search (SGHS) algorithm, and novel global harmony search (NGHS) algorithm are applied for determining the optimal hyper-parameters. Additionally, we also compared the estimation performances of these four HS algorithms. It was finally observed that the HS and the IHS algorithms greatly outperform the other two algorithms.

Enhancing wireless sensor network connectivity and coverage using Hybrid GWO-HSA algorithm

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are essential in environmental monitoring, healthcare, and industrial automation. Persistent connectivity and coverage challenges in WSN stem from intermittent node connectivity due to obstacles, signal interference, node failures, and compromised data reliability. Existing solutions, while useful, exhibit limitations in fully addressing these concerns. To confront these challenges, a proposed system introduces the Hybrid Grey Optimizer-harmony search Algorithm (Hybrid GWO-HSA), merging adaptive routing protocols and efficient deployment techniques. The Hybrid GWO-HSA system conducts an initial environmental analysis to pinpoint factors affecting node communication. It strategically deploys additional nodes to bridge coverage gaps, using the Grey Wolf Algorithm's capabilities to optimize node placement. Moreover, it employs the harmony search Algorithm to dynamically adjust communication paths based on real-time network conditions, ensuring robust data transmission. The system workflow involves an environmental assessment followed by node deployment guided by the Grey Wolf Algorithm. Subsequently, the harmony search adapts communication paths to enhance connectivity. Simulations and practical experiments across diverse environments validate the Hybrid GWO-HSA system's effectiveness. Results showcase substantial improvements: network lifetime of 13,200 s, a network delay of 37 ms, a coverage rate of 0.88, and an energy consumption of 590 J. This Hybrid GWO-HSA-based system establishes a resilient and efficient WSN infrastructure vital for reliable data collection and transmission in challenging settings. The Hybrid GWO-HSA system offers a comprehensive approach to WSN connectivity and coverage issues by leveraging firefly and genetic algorithms, and it significantly enhances WSN performance and reliability across multifaceted application domains. Comparison of the Prediction of Effective Moment of Inertia of FRP Rebar-Reinforced Concrete by an Optimization Algorithm

FRP (fiber-reinforced polymer)-reinforced concrete members have larger deflection than reinforced concrete members because of the low modulus of elasticity of the FRP bar. In this paper, we proposed a new effective moment of inertia equation to predict the deflection of FRP-reinforced concrete members based on the harmony search algorithm. The harmony search algorithm is used to optimize a function that minimizes the error between the deflection value of the experimental result and the deflection value expected from the specimen's specifications. In the experimental part, four GFRP (Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer)-and BFRP (Basalt Fiber-Reinforced Polymer)-reinforced concrete slab specimens were manufactured and tested. FRP-reinforced concrete slabs were reinforced with GFRP and BFRP rebars on spiral rib surfaces. The effects of the FRP reinforcement ratio and balanced reinforcement ratio (rho(f )/rho(fb)), the moment of inertia of the transformed cracked section and the gross moment of inertia (I-cr/I-g), and the cracking moment and the maximum service load moment (M-cr/M-a) on the effective moment of inertia have been considered. The experimental results and predicted results of the flexural testing of concrete slabs reinforced with FRP rebars were compared, and the experimental results were in good agreement with the calculated values using the proposed effective moment of inertia equation.
