A model for the integration of e-financial services questionnaires with SERVQUAL scales under fuzzy linguistic modeling

Although it is habitual to measure human perceptions with quite accurate instruments, perceptions are characterized by uncertainty and fuzziness. Furthermore, variations in individual perceptions and personality mean that the same words can indicate very different perceptions. In this context, the fuzzy linguistic approach seems to be an appropriate framework for modeling information. In this paper we explore the problem of integrating semantically heterogeneous data (natural language included) from various websites with opinions about e-financial services. We develop an extension of the fuzzy model based on semantic translation (FMST) under the perspective of the service quality (SERVQUAL) stream of research. The model permits us to obtain a more precise representation of the opinions using each type of customers. By integrating all customers into different subsets, a financial entity can easily analyze the SERVQUAL characteristics over time or other dimensions owing to the easy linguistic interpretability and high precision of the results of the model. A new model for linguistic summarization of heterogeneous data: an application to tourism web data sources

In this paper we present the problem of aggregating heterogeneous data from various websites with opinions about high end hotels into a database. We present the fuzzy model based on the semantic translation as a tool to obtain a linguistic summarization. The characteristics of this model (necessary to solve the problem) are not together on any of the existing linguistic models: the management of the input heterogeneous data (natural language included);the procurement of linguistic results with high precision and good interpretability;and the use of unbalanced linguistic term sets described by trapezoidal membership functions for defining the initial linguistic terms. We applied it to aggregate data from certain high end hotels websites and we show a case study using the high end hotels located in Granada (Spain) from such websites during a year. With this aggregated information, a data analyst can make several analyses with the benefit of easy linguistic interpretability and a high precision. The solution proposed here can be used to similar aggregation problems.

In an ongoing effort to share heterogeneous electronic medical record (EMR) data in an i2b2 instance between the University Hospitals Monster and Erlangen for joint cancer research projects, an ontology based system for the mapping of EMR data to a set of common data elements has been developed. The system translates the mappings into local SQL scripts, which are then used to extract, transform and load the facts data from each EMR into the i2b2 database. By using Semantic Web standards, it is the authors' goal to reuse the laboriously compiled "mapping knowledge" in future projects, such as a comprehensive cancer ontology or even a hospital-wide clinical ontology.

Understanding distal transcriptional regulation from sequence, expression and interactome perspectives

Gene regulation in eukaryotes involves a complex interplay between the proximal promoter and distal genomic elements (such as enhancers) which work in concert to drive precise spatio-temporal gene expression. The experimental localization and characterization of gene regulatory elements is a very complex and resource-intensive process. The computational identification of regulatory regions that confer spatiotemporally specific tissue-restricted expression of a gene is thus an important challenge for computational biology. One of the most popular strategies for enhancer localization from DNA sequence is the use of conservation-based prefiltering and more recently, the use of canonical (transcription factor motifs) or de novo tissue-specific sequence motifs. However, there is an ongoing effort in the computational biology community to further improve the fidelity of enhancer predictions from sequence data by integrating other, complementary genomic modalities. In this work, we propose a framework that complements existing methodologies for prospective enhancer identification. The methods in this work are derived from two key insights: (i) that chromatin modification signatures can discriminate proximal and distally located regulatory regions and (ii) the notion of promoter-enhancer cross-talk (as assayed in 3C/5C experiments) might have implications in the search for regulatory sequences that co-operate with the promoter to yield tissue-restricted, gene-specific expression. © 2010 Imperial College Press.

Clinical data Warehouses (CDW) can complement current Clinical Information Systems (CIS) with functions that are not easily implemented by traditional operational database systems. Here, we describe the design and deployment strategy used at the Pompidou University Hospital in southwest Paris. Four realms are described: technological realm, data realm, restitution realm, and administration realm. The corresponding UML use cases and the mapping rules from the shared integrated electronic health records to the five axes of the i2b2 CDW star model are presented. Priority is given to the anonymization and security principles used for the 1.2 million patient records currently stored in the CDW. Exploitation of a CDW by clinicians and investigators can facilitate clinical research, quality evaluations and outcome studies. These indirect benefits are among the reasons for the continuous use of an integrated CIS.

Compare with SOAP-based service that based on interfaces access pattern, RESTful web service is HTTP-based and use resource as the operation object. On the purpose of supporting RESTful in the enterprise information application, a Resource-oriented Information Supported Framework is constructed based on ontology construction and evolution. First, the initial ontology with relational pattern is extracted from the enterprise legacy databases. Users can generate the domain ontology through the evolution of initial ontology led by enterprise elements. And then evolve domain ontology to resource model according to the virtual resource in enterprise. Finally user can describe the resources based on resource model to meet the REST Web Service. In order to support the dynamic, flexible, and scalable enterprise application, the framework also provides a semantic reference for RESTful service invocation. The prototype system has been developed now in order to implement the application, which includes a semantic uniform view in complex data environments of enterprise so as to build an information environment for RESTful services execution. Considering there are an increasing research and application tendency in the field of resource-oriented approach, the Ontology-based Resourceoriented Information Supported Framework provides a semantic-level enterprise information base not only for heterogeneous data integration but also for RESTful services application.

Virtual screening has become an essential step in the early drug discovery process. Generally speaking, it consists in using computational techniques for selecting compounds from chemical libraries in order to identify drug-like molecules acting on a biological target of therapeutic interest. In the present study we consider virtual screening as a particular form of the KDD (Knowledge Discovery from databases) approach. The knowledge to be discovered concerns the way a compound can be considered as a consistent ligand for a given target. The data from which this knowledge has to be discovered derive from diverse sources such as chemical, structural, and biological data related to ligands and their cognate targets. More precisely, we aim to extract filters from chemical libraries and protein-ligand interactions. In this context, the three basic steps of a KDD process have to be implemented. Firstly, a model-driven data integration step is applied to appropriate heterogeneous data found in public databases. This facilitates subsequent extraction of various datasets for mining. In a second step, mining algorithms are applied to the datasets and finally the most accurate knowledge units are eventually proposed as new filters. We present here this KDD approach and the experimental results we obtained with a set of ligands of the hormone receptor LXR.

This paper presents an automatic meteorological data mining approach based on analyzing and mining heterogeneous remote sensed image datasets The cloud structures are firstly identified and tracked in satellite remote sensed images, after which heterogeneous cloud features and properties are extracted and integrated to form a unified dataset. The C4 5 decision tree algorithm and dependency network analysis are then employed to discover useful knowledge for weather forecasting, by which a group of derivation rules and a conceptual model for metrological environment factors are generated. Experimental results have shown that the system reduces the heavy workload of manual weather forecasting and provides meaningful interpretations to the forecasted results

Distributed query processing and heterogeneous data integration are two research areas that have received much attention over many years. These areas remain very relevant and continuously pose new challenges due to the numerous problems from various disciplines that can be solved by processing and analyzing large amounts of data. in this work we address in particular the problems faced by the fields of astronomy and astrophysics. The nature of these problems suggests the need of mechanisms that enable a wide range of distributed resources to cooperate in order to solve them. Currently, such environments composed of a large number of cooperating distributed resources are called Grids. This paper presents our approach and experiences on building a data integration and query processing system aimed at providing unified access to astronomical datasets through the e-GrOV data Grid, which represents a first step towards a Mexican Virtual Observatory.

Protein interactions are essential in discovery of protein functions and fundamental biological processes. In this paper, we aim to create a reliable computational model for protein interaction prediction by integrating information from complementary data sources. An integrative Artificial Neural Network (ANN) framework is developed to predict protein-protein interactions (PPIs) from heterogenous data in Human. Performance of our proposed framework is empirically investigated by combining protein domain data, molecular function and biological process annotations in Gene Ontology. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach can predict PPIs with high sensitivity of 82.43% and specificity of 78.67%. The results suggest that combining multiple data sources can result in a 7% increase in sensitivity compared to using only domain information. We are able to construct a protein interaction network with proteins around mitotic spindle checkpoint of the human interactome map. Novel predictions are made and some are supported by evidences in literature.
