MT-office: parallel password recovery program for office on domestic heterogeneous multi-core processor

With the improvement of security awareness, in order to guarantee information security, more advanced and secure encryption algorithms are applied to Microsoft Office. People also set more complex encryption passwords. However, once the initial password is forgotten, the encrypted information needs to be retrieved. The conventional brute force cracking methods and password recovery programs can hardly meet the actual deciphering needs. To this end, we develop a distributed parallel password recovery program (MT-Office) for Microsoft Office on the domestic heterogeneous multi-core processor (MT-3000). MT-Office takes full advantage of the multi-core and heterogeneous features of MT-3000, and is optimized and improved in both vectorization and global computing. At the same time, MT-Office provides multiple recovery strategies in password generation to improve the recovery efficiency. Compared with other platforms (e.g., Intel platforms and FT platforms), MT-3000 heterogeneous platform can achieve 60 x -218 x speedup ratio. For Office2010, we perform a strong scalability test on the new-generation supercomputer in National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin. MT-Office not only extends to 65,536 acceleration clusters on this system, shows good scalability, but also achieves almost linear speedup ratio. For Office2007, compared with other password recovery programs, MT-Office can achieve 2.5 x -131.1 x speedup ratio. It can be seen that MT-Office can better exploit the advantages of MT-3000, which not only has good scalability and parallelism, but also has faster deciphering speed and can be applied to practical engineering application.

The task scheduling problem of heterogeneous multicore processors has been proved to be a NPC problem. The classical genetic algorithm has some shortcomings, that is, the convergence time is long and the efficiency is often low. Therefore, in order to give full play to the platform advantages of heterogeneous multicore processors, this paper improves the classical genetic algorithm and proposes a based replication genetic algorithm (RGA). The main work of this paper is as follows: firstly, the DAG task scheduling model of heterogeneous multi-core processor is analyzed, which improves the ability of new individuals' reproduction by dynamically setting the crossover rate and mutation rate;and based on the replication operator, a part of individuals with higher adaptability are retained in each generation to achieve better convergence speed;at the same time, in the stage of processor selection, both direct predecessor tasks and direct tasks are considered. The influence of subsequent tasks on the completion time to ensure the load balance of the processor. Finally, the simulation results show that, compared with the classical GA and ACO, RGA not only keeps the possibility of generating new population, but also has faster convergence speed and better solving ability, improves the efficiency of task scheduling and has good scheduling fairness.

An Adaptive Thermal Management Framework for heterogeneous multi-core processors

Off-the-shelf embedded systems have adopted heterogeneous multi-core processors which have high-performance big cores and low-power small cores. Though there are two different types of cores in heterogeneous multi-core processors, conventional DVFS (Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling)-based DTM (Dynamic Thermal Management) techniques do not utilize the different types of cores to cool down hot cores. Rather, they primarily reduce the voltage and frequency of the hot cores, leading to performance degradation. In this article, we propose a novel adaptive DTM framework for heterogeneous multi-core processors, which utilizes the big and small cores to prevent performance degradation. Our proposed framework exploits two migration-based DTM techniques: 1) a technique (denoted as Migration(big <-> big)) that migrates applications from hot big cores (big cores whose temperature is above a pre-defined threshold) to cold big cores (big cores whose temperature is below the threshold) and 2) a technique (denoted as Migration(big <-> small)) that migrates all applications from the big cores to the small cores. In case of thermal emergency of the big cores, our proposed framework checks the number of cold big cores. When there exist available cold big cores, our proposed framework employs Migration(big <-> big) to cool down the hot big cores while not reducing the big core frequency. On the other hand, when there does not exist any available cold big core, our proposed framework employs one between Migration(big <-> small) and a DVFS-based DTM technique, which is expected to result in better performance. In our experiments on an embedded development board, our proposed framework improves the average performance by 8.9 percent, compared to ARM's DVFS-based IPA (Intelligent Power Allocation), satisfying thermal constraints. Our framework also improves the average performance by 10.4 percent, compared to a state-of-the-art predictive DVFS-based DTM technique.

The goal is to explore the application of heterogeneous multi core processors in asset budget optimization. In this paper, a task scheduling strategy based on heterogeneous multi-core processors is designed, and tasks are dynamically allocated to different processor cores through reasonable task allocation and scheduling strategies to improve the overall computing performance. The effectiveness and improvement potential of the proposed strategy were evaluated through experiments and data analysis. Experimental results show that heterogeneous multi-core processors have great potential in asset budget optimization, which can reduce energy consumption costs under the premise of meeting computing requirements. By optimizing resource allocation and task scheduling, higher computing performance can be obtained and more efficient resource utilization can be achieved. In summary, the application of heterogeneous multi core processors in asset budget optimization is studied. By proposing an asset budget optimization strategy based on heterogeneous multi-core processors, a new idea and method is provided to achieve high-performance computing and low energy cost. © 2024 IEEE.

Performance Evaluation of Inter-processor Communication for an Embedded heterogeneous multi-core processor

Embedded systems often use a heterogeneous multi-core processor to improve performance and energy efficiency. This multi-core processor is composed of a general purpose processor (GPP), which manages the program flow and I/O, and a digital. signal processor (DSP), which processes mass data. An inter-processor communication (IPC) mechanism is thus required to exchange data between a GPP and a DSP. This paper uses comprehensive experiments to evaluate the IPC performance of an embedded heterogeneous multi-core processor under different design strategies. We further develop the IPC performance model and suggest dynamic adjustment of IPC strategies under environmental parameters and system resource constraints. Based on the results and findings, we improve the IPC performance of a voice over IP (VoIP) phone. Experimental results demonstrate that the GPP workload decreases significantly by 35% without sacrificing the functionalities and voice quality of the VolP system. Moreover, we apply the concept of dynamic adjustment of IPC strategies to an embedded media gateway. The simulation results demonstrate that the dynamic IPC strategy can considerably improve the system performance of the media gateway compared with the static IPC design approach.

When the traditional heterogeneous multi-core scheduling algorithm performs tasks with high resource density, a large amount of idle time often occurs on the processor core. Therefore, based on the environment of heterogeneous multi-core processors, this paper studies the static heuristic table scheduling algorithm, and proposes an optimization approach for the problem of single priority assignment and too simple task assignment. We design optimization in the static heuristic scheduling algorithm list generation phase and task allocation phase, and propose a hybrid task allocation method with three strategies to improve the standby time utilization of processor core. Then, DVFS technology is used to optimize the scheduling results, so that the task can run with lower energy consumption without increasing makespan. Finally, the new algorithm is compared with three traditional scheduling algorithms through design experiments, and it is proved that the new algorithm has better performance when executing more tasks.

As computing platforms increasingly embrace heterogeneity, runtime resource managers need to efficiently, dynamically, and robustly manage shared resources (e.g., cores, power budgets, memory bandwidth). To address the complexities in heterogeneous systems, state-of-the-art techniques that use heuristics or machine learning have been proposed. On the other hand, conventional control theory can be used for formal guarantees, but may face unmanageable complexity for modeling system dynamics of complex heterogeneous systems. We address this challenge through HESSLE-FREE (heterogeneous Systems Leveraging Fuzzy Control for Runtime Resource Management): an approach leveraging fuzzy control theory that combines the strengths of classical control theory together with heuristics to form a light-weight, agile, and efficient run-time resource manager for heterogeneous systems. We demonstrate the efficacy of HESSLE-FREE executing on a NVIDIA Jetson TX2 platform (containing a heterogeneous multi-processor with a GPU) to show that HESSLE-FREE: 1) provides opportunity for optimization in the controller and stability analysis to enhance the confidence in the reliability of the system;2) coordinates heterogeneous compute units to achieve desired objectives (e.g., QoS, optimal power references, FPS) efficiently and with lower complexity, and 3) eases the burden of system specification.

The traditional distributed operating system (OS) and homogeneous multiprocessors OS are not suitable for heterogeneous multi-core processor (HMP) in real-time and efficiency performance. After researching the structure and the development trend of the HMP, this paper presents a multi-master model real-time operating system architecture for HMP, which is designed with symmetric structure and functional modularization, and every kernel can manage resources, tasks and other shared devices as a master to improve the real-time and efficiency performance, to solve the bottle-neck problem that the single master can not satisfy the requirement of performance with increasing of the slave number. This architecture can adapt to different structure processor core with configurable function module. On the other hand, it can also reduce the development difficulty of the heterogeneous multi-core processor OS.
