hierarchical modeling method and dynamic characteristics of cutter head driving system in tunneling boring machine

Traditional modeling method is difficult to establish the fully coupled model of the cutter head driving system in tunneling boring machine (TBM) owing to the structural complexity. In this paper, a generalized hierarchical modeling method is proposed to establish the entirely dynamic model of the TBM cutter head driving system. The components are equivalent to beam element with the same mass and stiffness characteristics, and the nonlinear coupling factors such as time-varying mesh stiffness, transmission error and gear backlash of both the multiple pinions driving and planetary gearbox are considered. The overall dynamic equation is formed by assembling the unit matrixes of basic finite elements according to the coupling relationships. Based on the proposed model, the vibration modes of driving system are classified into axial modes, rotational modes and lateral modes with distinct characteristics. The effects of coupling parameters on the natural frequency of driving system are investigated as well. The dynamic model is also simulated to analyze the dynamic response of driving system under two load conditions, cyclic external loads and simulated external loads. The main response frequency components and the effect of damping coefficients on vibration amplitudes are investigated. The proposed modeling method can be generalized to other complex driving system, and the obtained results provide data support for the dynamic design of driving system in TBM. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Large-scale complex system modeling and simulation involves multidisciplinary knowledge. It is usually necessary to create models using different modeling languages and methods. Therefore, a simulation system built by these models has the characteristics of heterogeneous and hierarchical structure. It will be a great challenge in designing and controlling simulation execution. This paper proposed a hierarchical modeling method and designed a synchronous control algorithm based on synchronous points array. Then we implemented a collaborative simulation framework based on distributed computing environment. The result illustrates this framework provides an efficient mechanism to support hierarchical modeling. With the rate of computing load to communication load increasing, the parallelism will be higher, thus the performance of the simulation system can be promoted.

hierarchical control is a new control framework in the vehicle vibration control field. In this paper, a hierarchical modeling method is presented to form a different motorcycle model, compared to the traditional model with six degrees of freedoms (DOF), so as to construct hierarchical modeling control. The whole control framework is composed of a central control, two local controls and two uncontrollable parts. The front and rear wheel systems of a motorcycle are all dealt with by using two independent local 2-DOF systems. The driver and engine act as uncontrollable passive parts. The central control is composed of an algorithm made up of some dynamic equations that harmonize local relations. The vertical and pitch accelerations of the suspension center are treated as central control objects. With the help of Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) algorithms adopted by two local controls, respectively, and Matlab software, some results of the simulation show that hierarchical modeling control requires less CPU time, reduces respond time and improves ride quality.

This paper presents a fault-tolerant computer system. It is designed as a double 2-out-of-2 architecture based on component redundant technique. Also, a quantitative probabilistic model is presented for evaluating the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) of this architecture. hierarchical modeling method and Markov modeling method are used in RAMS analysis to evaluate the system characteristics. The double 2-out-of-2 system is compared with the other two systems, all voting triple modular redundancy (AVTMR) system and dual-duplex system. According to the result, the double 2-out-of-2 system has the highest dependability. Especially, the system can satisfy the safety integrity level (SIL) 4, which means the system’s probability of catastrophic failure less than or equal to 10-8 per hour, therefore, it can be applied to life critical systems such as high-speed railway systems.
