As one gets older, his/her mobility tends to decrease. Therefore, simple tasks such as getting up to switch the lights on or turning the fan off can become difficult. Thus, it became imperative to create a system which allows them to perform these tasks - a 'Hand Recognition based home automation system'. Starting with the research unraveled different ways of implementation of the hand gesture recognition. After considering the functionalities and drawbacks of various methodologies, a library called MediaPipe, was the one that resonated best with this project. This paper includes analysis and comparison of various types of models on a hand gesture dataset - HaGRID. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a low-cost home automation system that can generate an energy-efficient and cost-reducing electricity consumption schedule. The system is comprised of an energy management system running on a raspberry pi 4 called home Assistant with wireless smart switches connected to the desired home appliances. The communication between all components in the system is configured to be wireless, which means that the control interface for this system is flexible. The proposed optimization method for generating the schedule is based on mixed integer linear programming. The home energy management system is realized on a raspberry pi. The optimization algorithm is implemented using Python and the Gurobi solver package. The optimized scheduling for the home appliances was obtained for different cases of user time preferences and results prove that the proposed method efficiently reduced the total cost of electricity of a typical household.

Nowadays, people are looking for methods to improve their lifestyles by utilising the latest technologies accessible. Various home automation system have grown in popularity over the last decade, and it improves comfort and quality of life. The proposed work explores an intelligent home automation system (iHAS) that allows the user to monitor electrical appliances of the home from everywhere in the world. This system can he used to describe how all home appliances function together and control them using the laptop, Android smartphone, or tablet with internet access. The home automation system can be installed in existing home environments without requiring any infrastructure changes. This paper explored the design and implementation of an individual control home automation device utilising Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller unit. The user can have complete control over the home appliances and devices from anywhere using only an Android app and an internet connection.

Internet of things and automation systems have taken over the world at present times. home security has always been a field of concern among mass people. Making home security systems safer, cheaper and easy to understand is a challenge that many engineers around the world are striving to achieve in developing countries. Considering the economic condition of people of a developing country like Bangladesh, we propose an IoT based smart home security and automation system named 'Facebook messenger Chatbot' which is made using Raspberry PI as the central processor. It will enable its users to use it free of cost as Facebook messenger app is free in Bangladesh. People can use it from home or any remote location and can control digital home appliances like fans, lights etc. Smart door locking system, face recognition, gas leakage detection, temperature detection and control, humidity detection, fire detection, which has been done through collecting data from different sensors and passing them to Raspberry PI and then PI passes these to the BOT through a REST API, are the additional features that make our security system safer, effective and easier to use compared to other existing approaches.

Devices like Hue Lights and Hive Bulbs are playing a major role in converting our homes into smart homes. Smart homes do need smart protection against any sort of thefts or dangers to home. A simple smart home automation system can be developed using Raspberry Pi and some extra components. Raspberry Pi is a small microcomputer nearly size of a business card. In this paper we will present a small review on the Raspberry Pi and we will give an illustration explaining that how simple is to make a home automation system.

An easy and better way of life is the topic of the day and stays an important theme for the future. New researches focusing on this aspect are increasingly emerging. In recent years, improving automation in home automation systems and making homes even smarter seem to be a major issue. automation of daily life functioning of home devices makes life easier for inhabitants, and then saves them from manual adjustments. home automation systems encompass different communication and networking technologies. They are embedded with sensor networks that perceive information about the environment and occupants. The collected data can mainly be processed to infer sequential patterns defining the home behavior. However, the imperfection, particularly uncertainty of sensor readings, is a significant factor to consider. Also, time is an important aspect when reasoning about home behavior, as each pattern (scenario) performs at a given time throughout the day. Evidence theory is recently gaining great attention. It is suitable for dealing with imperfection of sensor data and for including temporal features into the reasoning process to discover the appropriate pattern to launch. This paper presents a new framework based on evidence theory with the inclusion of time features, for improving automation in home automation systems. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated by conducting experiments on synthetic dataset. The results show the efficiency of the discovery process when multiple working sensors are available. The results demonstrate also that reliability and accuracy of the process improve significantly when temporal information is provided.

The paper demonstrates to design a smart home system for physically disabled persons with the purpose of reduction of water and power consumption. The physically disabled persons require special assistances from caretakers or other persons to lead their normal life and even at home, it is not convenient for them to control the house apparatus system according to their wish. In this paper, a smart home automation system is implemented which consists of automatic control of lights to turn on in presence of human and turn off rest of the time as well as Bluetooth remote controlling ability along with automatic door lock and open system, automatic Water tap, automatic water tank fill-up and Solar charging system with the solar controller to reduce the power consumption. The project has been implemented using low-cost components and based on Arduino platform with an aim to develop a system which will be effective to reduce water wastage in real time as well as the project will be able to reduce power consumption and utility bill by using renewable energy as the power source.

home automation systems represent one of the most promising technologies for energy efficiency, which is currently considered one of main factors enabling an environmental sustainable growth. However, several barriers hinder a massive diffusion of home automation systems and their economic viability. The paper aims to analyze the economic viability of the adoption of a home automation system in different scenarios: the first one refers to the sole adoption of a home automation system, the second one concerns the adoption of the home automation system in addition to other energy efficiency technologies, while the third one also includes the installation of a PV plant. The economic simulations, based on a 200 m2 house located in Northern Italy and built in the 1980's, performed using the traditional discounted cash flow methodologies (i.e. Net Present Value, Pay -Back Time and Internal Rate of Return), show that the adoption of the home automation system without other technologies for energy efficiency and the support of the electricity produced by RES i.e. the first scenario is the most profitable one.

home automation systems have been continuously evolving in the past few years: some of the systems are focusing their attention on providing remote access and control of the system, while others are more focused on the interconnectivity of the devices and on integrating them into greater systems, like smart cities. In this paper we propose a hierarchical architecture for home automation systems, which aims at integrating both approaches. We propose a modular and scalable system, with multiple layers, each layer having its own distinct structure, functionality and challenges.

home automation systems (HAS) have gained world-wide popularity these days. It guarantees security, surveillance and solace to the user and make their life more comfortable. In developed countries, many households have smart home automation systems which detect their surroundings and act on the data to trigger home appliances such as fan, air conditioners etc. But these systems are not very popular in developing nations as compared to developed nations because of their pricing. Also, almost all of these systems are hard coded so they just make some decisions based on iterative conditions. The system has neither user defined nor conditional control. There comes the need of Voice Controlled home automation systems (VCHAS). The proposed ZigBee based home automation system and Wi-Fi network are unified through a mutual home gateway. The combinatory offers network interoperability, a simple and supple user interface, and distant access to the system.
