Lots of papers indicate that detecting pitch period accurately is extremely important in speech compression coding, without putting forward enough argumentation. In this paper, we conduct abundant experiments to observe the particular influence of pitch accuracy on synthetic speech quality. In two typical types of speech compression coding, we add "white" and "babble" noise signal respectively with different SNRs, to see the changes of pitch detection results and the corresponding synthetic speech quality. Later, we conduct some replacement operations between detection results and between different coding schemes to find the difference. We give ideas that the performance of pitch detection methods are closely related to speech characteristics and the environmental noise, while pitch period plays roles of different importance in hybrid coding and parameter coding.

By combining an algebraic method and a random method, a hybrid method is proposed to construct LDPC codes, which can easily ensure the girth is at least six. The complexity of construction for the hybrid code is only a fraction of that for PEG code, which facilitates the construction of long LDPC codes with very low density. Simulation results show that the hybrid code from EG-LDPC code and PEG code has the identical error performance and convergence rate to the PEG code with the same length.

In this paper, we proposed a new adaptive genetic algorithm based hybrid coding and elitist strategy. The high fitness individuals was used to perform decimal coding to improve the search rate based on original adaptive genetic algorithm, as well as the criteria of poor individuals about elitist strategy, rather than random replacement or replacing the worst individual. Experimental results show that this method is effective and reliable.

As the shortcomings of BP neural network slow convergence rate, falling into local minimum easily and difficult to determine the number of hidden nodes accurately, the number of hidden nodes, weights and threshold of BP neural network were optimized, using binary and real number hybrid coding based on genetic algorithms with global searching ability. Finally, the method tested with WD615 diesel engine valve fault diagnosis data. Experimental results showed that this algorithm has obvious advantages, it is able to overcome the deficiencies of BP neural network, and improves the network's learning ability.

This paper presents a fast integer-pixel motion estimation (ME) algorithm for High Efficiency Video coding (HEVC), which provides a strategy to speed up the search process significantly, while yielding the same quality performance as the Test Zone Search (TZSearch) scheme in HEVC Test Model (HM). Compared with the H.264/AVC, the ME process employs a more complex hybrid coding architecture and a larger size search window in HEVC, leading to great computational complexity. We utilize limited pixels of certain position in the current search range to build a quadratic model, and then shrink the search range repeatedly by analyzing the sum of absolute difference (SAD) distribution until the best motion vector (MV) is obtained. The proposed algorithm can be applied to various encoding conditions. Experimental results show that our method can save 56% of computations compared with the TZSearch scheme, with negligible decrease of coding quality.
