The closed-loop-control-relevant (CLCR) identification for inverse stable (IS) and inverse unstable (IU) processes is discussed computing the necessary optimal reference signal excitation. In case of an IS plant the optimal excitation depends only on the performance design goal, however, in case of an IU plant it depends on the invariant factors of the process, too, so only adaptive algorithms can be applied.

identification of systems operating in closed loop has been of primary concern in many industrial applications and scientific research for the last few decades. Control engineering has been one of the major fields of application of system identification in closed loop. DC motors are widely used in control systems as actuating elements or parts of the plant to be controlled. Major nonlinearities affecting the behavior of a motor and its load take effect especially at low speeds and during reversal of direction. The purpose of the current contribution is to present a nonlinear direct approach to the identification of a DC motor with load in closed loop, and show that the suggested nonlinear direct approach significantly reduces the error caused by the nonlinear effects at certain time intervals. The nonlinear model was built utilizing a Hammerstein system structure. The linear approach and the suggested nonlinear approach are tested via real time experiments and results are graphically presented. The accuracy of the suggested method is also revealed by graphics and tabulated data.

Algorithms for direct controller reduction by identification in closed loop has been recently proposed [9, 6]. In this paper it is shown that the plant model identification in closed loop using closed loop output error identification algorithms and the direct estimation in closed loop of a reduced order controller feature a duality character. Basic schemes., algorithms and properties of the algorithms can be directly obtained by interchanging the plant model and the controller. Experimental results concerning the use of these algorithms for direct controller reduction can be found in a companion paper [7]. In the last part of the paper the interaction between plant model identification in closed loop and direct controller reduction is emphasized.

The growing interest in using dual Youla Kucera plant parametrization for modeling plant uncertainties raises the need for recursive identification algorithms dedicated to the identification of these structures in closed loop in view of developing appropriate iterative tuning and adaptive control strategies. The paper presents recursive algorithms for identification in closed loop of dual Youla-Kucera parametrized plant models. These algorithms assure global asymptotic stability in the deterministic environment and allow to obtain unbiased parameter estimation in the presence of measurement noise when the plant model is in the model set. The paper also re-visit the Hansen scheme which allows to associate open loop type recursive identification algorithms for the identification of these structures in closed loop. When the plant model is not in the model set, comparison of the various algorithms is done in terms of the bias distribution. Further comparisons and performance evaluation is provided by simulations on some relevant examples and experimental identification in closed loop of a test bench for active noise control.(c) 2022 European Control Association. Adaptive feedforward compensation algorithms for active vibration control with mechanical coupling

Adaptive feedforward broadband vibration (or noise) compensation is currently used when a correlated measurement with the disturbance (an image of the disturbance) is available. However in most of the systems there is a "positive" mechanical feedback coupling between the compensator system and the measurement of the image of the disturbance. This may lead to the instability of the system. The paper proposes new algorithms taking into account this coupling effect and provides the corresponding analysis. The algorithms have been applied to an active vibration control (AVC) system and real time results are presented. A theoretical and experimental comparison with some existing algorithms is also provided. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A new method for identification of continuous-time systems for robust control is presented, which allows incorporation of frequency dependent weighting functions in the minimization procedure. Parameter estimation and controller design are applied to a nontrivial double integral mechanical plant. The technique for parameter estimation profits by the properties of Hartley Modulating Functions (HMF), which make it easy to include frequency dependent weighting, so that only numerically significant spectral elements are used. Additionally, no estimation of initial conditions is neccessary when using HMF. The controller design for the task of closed loop data acquisition is performed by a discrete-time pole placement approach, whereas the final control strategy applies H ∞ norm minimization utilizing the frequency weighted continuous-time model. Experimental studies demonstrate the results of parameter estimation and controller design. The real-time implementation illustrates the improved control performance obtained by the new approach.
