The vision substitution method is aiming at providing the blind with a capability of perception of the environment. In this paper, a vision substitution method based on image edge detection and sound mapping is presented. By means of lifting wavelet transforms, an image is decomposed into two parts, i.e. the low frequency components and the high frequency components. Canny operator detects its edges in the low frequency image. And the binary edgeimage is mapped into sound with distinct frequency components. Sound frequency represents the vertical position of edge points. And different frequency sound from the same column is added up and played. Results showed that the noise in the image is effectively suppressed and the mapped sound is easier to understand and remember via this method. After lots of training, the blind can obtain some outside information by hearing the sound.

To make up the defect of conventional image edge detection methods which don't make full use of color image information, this paper puts forward a color imageedge extraction algorithm based on wavelet multi-scale, where the imageedges are extracted via the following two steps: firstly polishing the three components R, G, B by wavelet multi-scale features template; then preceding vector extended gradient after the polishing. A new edgedetection method is presented based on the information measure, and the new method is applied to the coronary angiogram. Firstly, the blood vessel path points are found by using the square template, and the quasi-center curve of the vessel segment is obtained by using the minimum gray scale criteria and the smoothing technical. Then the orientation information measure concept of an image is introduced, and the l values of the information measures of the l points in the same row or the same column are calculated according to the quasi center curve. Finally, the point with the maximum information measure is defined to be the edge point and the edge curve is acquired. The experimental results show that the new method can effectively distinguish the noise points and identify the edge points with the better accuracy. This method has a good immunity in noise. The experimental result is quite satisfactory.

detection of edges in an image is a very important step towards understanding the image features and it is considered as the most common approach for detecting meaningful discontinuities in gray level. The edges in an image are detected using the derivative of the image. The method that uses the first derivative is called gradient while the one that uses the second derivative is called Laplacian. This paper is concerned in the edgedetection problem using the first derivative method. Our proposed method of edgedetection is based on the implicit finite difference, where we have only used the first derivative of the images for x and y directions in order to construct the two masks. The proposed masks are more general than the classical gradient masks like Sobel, Prewitt, and Robert. Our proposed method has been implemented and tested on artificial images, and then compared with Sobel and Prewitt edge detectors using a performance measure. The results showed good detection of edges in low contrast images in comparison with Sobel and Prewitt edge detectors.

Firstly, the improved wavelet semisoft threshold method is used to suppress noise of image, where the algorithm of Bayes threshold is adopted to calculate the value of threshold. Secondly, A multi-scale and multi-structural elements morphological edgedetection algorithms with entropy weights is presented and compared with two more popular morphological edgedetection algorithms from three aspects (run times, SNR, precision). Finally, the comprehensive experiment shows that the improved edgedetection based on the morphological transformation can get the more satisfactory results.

We describe a new computational approach to edgedetection. Our digital algorithm emulates propagation of light through a physical medium with specific nonlinear diffractive property. The method uses the phase profile of the output complex-amplitude image to identify the edges with different strength in a digital image. This technique is related to the recently introduced Discrete Anamorphic Stretch Transform in which the magnitude of a similar transform was used for image compression. The classical algorithm of edge extraction is that the gray change of each pixel in neighborhood is considered and the change rule of first or second derivative in edge adjacent is used. In several edgedetection operators commonly used, Lap lace operator often produces double-margin and others such as Sobel operator often form non-closed area. In this paper, Canny edgedetection operator based on optimization algorithm is firstly discussed, which has advantages of large signal and noise ratio and high accuracy. Secondly, the welding image processing with Canny operator is described and for every step, detailed description and processing results are given. At last, Canny operator edgedetection results are projected to 2-d histogram. The histograms of projection results are compared with the qualified image histogram. When the similarity is higher than some threshold, we think that the welding is qualified. Otherwise, it is considered as defective welding. Through the edge extraction and detection of lead-acid battery electrode welding that are done by welding robot, it can be seen that the recognition results meet the requirements of production line.

The actual images are often contaminated by noise. Noise reduction is the first step to image processing. But the noise reduction and edge localization are contradictory, which makes edgedetection is an ill-posed problem. In multi-scale edgedetection using wavelet transform (WT), the scale selection is one key problem. In small scale, edges can be localized accurately, but are sensitive to noise, while in large scale, noise can be suppressed effectively, but edges may deviate from original location. edges can be detected exactly only when scale selected is a good compromise of these two factors. In this paper, seven edge types are modeled and the scale selection is analyzed for each type. According to the analytical results, some important rules are given, which can guide the scale selection of WT and provide theoretical basis for edgedetection and noise reduction.

As a method of fault diagnosis and state monitoring for HV-power equipments, infrared image analysis has been applied while edgedetection is a crucial step of this image application. In this paper, a novel edgedetection based on quantum-inspired is proposed. Quantum-inspired edgedetection (QIED) is based on concepts and principles of quantum computing such as quits and superposition of states. And detailed process of this method and result using in power equipment infrared image are given. The experiment result shows that compared with conventional edgedetection QIED can extract more useful information for fault diagnosis.
