Line following robots requires image acquisition and processing algorithms for the determination of the line trajectory. The Viterbi algorithm is proposed for the estimation of the line trajectory in this paper. The robustness of this algorithm is verified using the Monte Carlo approach for two distortions types: additive Gaussian noise and false lines sets. The results show possibilities of reliable estimation, even if the real line is hidden in the noise, without the application of additional estimators based on the previous measurements.

The aim of this research paper is to understand the braille system and read the book for visually impaired person without any difficulty. Braille system is used by the people who are visually impaired. Braille system consist six raised dots in each cell and each cell represent one letter in English alphabet. In this undertaking we are using KNN algorithm for find the nearest neighbors from the base dot and calculate the distance between the dots. After finding the letter raspberry pi module convert that letter into speech form by using text to speech convertor. Camera module, voice output module is attached with the Raspberry pi module. We propose a Camera based framework integrated with image processing algorithms, KNN algorithm and text to speech module.

We introduce a new prototype instrument for measuring the 2D spatially resolved distribution of spectral reflectance based on new spectral imaging technique. The instrument captures digital spectral images of a test sample using a pulsed LED-based monochromatic source and a scientific grade CCD array and special data acquisition algorithm is used to extract the useful image data corresponding to the target application. In earlier version of this instrument, we used a commercial CCD camera with 8-bit ADC without any cooling stages which has many drawbacks. In this work, we have modified our setup by introducing a new scientific grade CCD;deep-cooled interline transfer sensor with 16-bit ADC and electronic shutter. With this new instrument we could achieve a higher accuracy, higher spatially resolved measurements, higher dynamic range, mush better sensitivity and lower uncertainty and we could avoid many sources of errors in the old setup. With one wavelength scan, one can get the full reflectance data of the sample under test which saves a lot of time in comparison with conventional methods. This new instrument is promising with a potential of applications in the field of optical material testing.

In this paper, we conduct research on the novel image de-noising algorithm based on fractal theory and the multi-scale geometric. Dimension is a feature of geometry. As is known to all, point is zero dimensional, straight line is one-dimensional, plane is two-dimensional. When measuring the length of the straight line segment, if use to measure per unit area of the square, is zero, the result of the measure that adopted by the scale is too large, Similarly, when measuring circular surface area, if to measure with unit length of the line, to infinity, the result of the measure adopted by the scale is too thin. With this theoretical support, we propose the novel research on the de-noising algorithm that could integrate the advantages of the multi-scale geometric which is meaningful.

This paper presents an adaptation of the Cross-Entropy (CE) method to optimize fuzzy logic controllers. The CE is a recently developed optimization method based on a general Monte-Carlo approach to combinatorial and continuous multi-extremal optimization and importance sampling. This work shows the application of this optimization method to optimize the inputs gains, the location and size of the different membership functions' sets of each variable, as well as the weight of each rule from the rule's base of a fuzzy logic controller (FLC). The control system approach presented in this work was designed to command the orientation of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to modify its trajectory for avoiding collisions. An onboard looking forward camera was used to sense the environment of the UAV. The information extracted by the image processing algorithm is the only input of the fuzzy control approach to avoid the collision with a predefined object. Real tests with a quadrotor have been done to corroborate the improved behavior of the optimized controllers at different stages of the optimization process.

Screw thread, as the most basic and widely used mechanic element, has many traditional methods to verify its dimension consistency. Machine vision technology is gradually applied to inspect screw thread in fastener industry because of its fast, precise and repeatable features. Based on analysis of the features and problems of previous vision measurement methods, this paper provides calculation, analysis and simulation of screw thread's 3D mathematic model, and finally provides corresponding algorithm to correct calculation error resulting from shading effect of backlight projecting.

image processing algorithms, which recognize foods from photographs, have been proposed as a method for patients to conveniently track foods they eat. However, food recognition is challenging because 1) the same type of food can differ in shape when prepared differently. 2) the wide variety of food leads to a large number of food categories. Machine learning based food classification has been proposed but its accuracy depends on the types of visual features used. In this work, we compare the accuracy of SIFT to GLCM features for recognition of 4 different categories of foods (apples, burgers, bread and prepared dishes). GLCM features perform better than SIFT overall, and for single-item or homogeneous foods (e.g. Apple) while SIFT performs well for complex dishes.

We propose a web interface that allows researchers to quantify and analyze microtubule confocal images online. Most analyses of microtubule confocal images are performed manually using very simple software or tools. Analysis results are stored locally within each collaborator with different styles and formats. This has limited the sharing of data and results when collaborating among different research parties. A web interface provides a simple way for users to process data online. It also allows easy sharing of both data and results among different participating groups. Analysis workflow of the interface is made similar to existing manual protocols. We demonstrate the integration of image processing algorithm in the current workflow to aid the analysis. Our design also allows integration of novel automated analysis algorithms and modules to re-evaluate existing data. This interface can provide a validation platform for new automated algorithm and allow collaboration on microtubule image analysis from different locations.

Divers features of human body are being explored on daily basis for person identification based on their uniqueness to individuals. The use of fingerprint in crime investigation has come to stay, but criminals are getting smarter by protecting their fingerprints from being evidence at a crime scene. Concealing of footprint or shoe print is yet to become popular, some criminals still go bare footed to crime scene. Footprint can be secured and analysed using image processing techniques such as de-noising, image partitioning, pattern matching This research looks at the uniqueness of barefoot morphology, should in any circumstance barefoot prints are found at a scene and are required to suggest a suspect or criminal. image processing algorithms are employed to analyse barefoot prints in other to establish the unique features on the prints.

Nowadays, one of the main limiting factor in multiprocessor development is the increasing speed gap between efficient processing elements and slow main memories. To reduce this limitation, prefetching mechanisms, implemented in memory hierarchy, attempt to predict the future data needed in local memory. However, classical proposed solutions are no longer efficient for typical access sequences in the context of image processing algorithms. In this paper, a prefetching mechanism is proposed, based on the use of the index array of access rather than memory addresses. The adaptive prediction policy takes into account both application and main memory characteristics. This mechanism enhances the Cache nD-AP, formerly statically set, to improve its performance. Experiments show that the proposed adaptive strategy is able to maintain its efficiency when the characteristics of the system dynamically change.
