Electron Multiplying Charge Coupled Device(EMCCD) is a kind of high sensitive imaging device, widely used in shimmer detection field. The paper proposed a design of image processing system for CCD201, an EMCCD with high frequency and high sensitivity of E2 V Corporation. We selected the Xilinx product ZYNQ-7000 series, based on ARM+FPGA architecture, as the processor. According to the amount of image data and the complexity of image processing, the specific model was determined as ZYNQ-7030. We designed a set of memory system out of chip and communication interface for the processor. To improve power conversion efficiency and minimize the system, a 4-channel DCDC micro-module LTM4644 was selected. LTM4644 has lower output voltage ripple than common DCDC part and can meet the power noise request of the system.

FORMOSAT-2, Taiwan's first remote sensing satellite, was successfully launched in May of 2004 into the Sun-synchronous orbit at 891 kilometers of altitude. With the daily revisit feature, the 2-m panchromatic, 8-m multi-spectral resolution images captured have been used for researches and operations in various societal benefit areas. This paper details the orchestration of various tasks conducted in different institutions in Taiwan in the efforts responding to international disasters. The institutes involved including its space agency-National Space Organization (NSPO), Center for Satellite Remote Sensing Research of National Central University, GIS Center of Feng-Chia University, and the National Center for High-performance Computing. Since each institution has its own mandate, the coordinated tasks ranged from receiving emergency observation requests, scheduling and tasking of satellite operation, downlink to ground stations, images processing including data injection, ortho-rectification, to delivery of image products. With the lessons learned from working with international partners, the FORMOSAT image processing system has been extensively automated and streamlined with a goal to shorten the time between request and delivery in an efficient manner. The integrated team has developed an Application Interface to its system platform that provides functions of search in archive catalogue, request of data services, mission planning, inquiry of services status, and image download. This automated system enables timely image acquisition and substantially increases the value of data product. Example outcome of these efforts in recent response to support Sentinel Asia in Nepal Earthquake is demonstrated herein.

With the rapid development of satellite-based signal processing technologies comes the widespread deployment of SAR image processing systems in spaceborne applications, many of which are implemented as FPGAbased systems thanks to the introduction of modern programmable devices with high capacity and complexity. However, as raw data of SAR satellites grow in size and bandwidth the effective implementation and especially the efficient system verification are emerging as the bottleneck in the development of FPGA-based SAR image processing systems. This paper proposes methods in the verification phase of FPGA-based SAR processing system development which on one hand increases the verification speed during simulations and on the other addresses the hardware/Matlab mismatch issue through comparison of floating point numbers on grounds of error analysis from a mathematical approach. Actual development process indicate that the proposed methods guarantee quick design convergence, and test results on real hardware confirm that the SAR image processing system offers acceptable quality of image output.

Grid Sample Based Temporal Iteration for Fully Pipelined 1-ms SLIC Superpixel Segmentation system

A 1 millisecond (1 -ms) vision system, which processes videos at 1000 frames per second (FPS) within 1 ms/frame delay, plays an increasingly important role in fields such as robotics and factory automation. Superpixel as one of the most extensively employed image oversegmentation methods is a crucial pre-processing step for reducing computations in various computer vision applications. Among the different superpixel methods, simple linear iterative clustering (SLIC) has gained widespread adoption due to its simplicity, effectiveness, and computational efficiency. However, the iterative assignment and update steps in SLIC make it challenging to achieve high processing speed. To address this limitation and develop a SLIC superpixel segmentation system with a 1 ms delay, this paper proposes grid sample based temporal iteration. By leveraging the high frame rate of the input video, the proposed method distributes the iterations into the temporal domain, ensuring that the system's delay keeps within one frame. Additionally, grid sample information is added as initialization information to the obtained superpixel centers for enhancing the stability of superpixels. Furthermore, a selective label propagation based pipeline architecture is proposed for parallel computation of all the possibilities of label propagation. This eliminates data dependency between adjacent pixels and enables a fully pipelined system. The evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed superpixel segmentation system achieves boundary recall and under -segmentation error comparable to the original SLIC algorithm. When considering label consistency, the proposed system surpasses the performance of state-of-the-art superpixel segmentation methods. Moreover, in terms of hardware performance, the proposed system processes 1000 FPS images with 0.985 ms/frame delay.

Neuro-heuristic analysis of surveillance video in a centralized IoT system

Security systems are based on the monitoring of specific areas of the facility. The cameras record the selected place for the whole day. Unfortunately, it is difficult to automatically analyze the recorded situations mainly through manual analysis. In this paper, we propose an innovative automatic monitoring data analysis system. To minimize the amount of processed data, a heuristic-based method is proposed to analyze frames. Heuristic algorithm is adapted to image analysis. If the algorithm detects significant changes in pixel values, the frame is sent further to the convolutional neural network. The proposed solution is based on centralized federated learning that allows training a shared model on a local dataset. This guarantees surveillance recordings' privacy with a shared model. The proposal is a hybrid solution that was presented as a mathematical model, tested and compared with other known solutions. Based on conducted experiments, the proposed image processing system minimizes the number of calculations by the hybrid approach that can be valuable for IoT applications. The proposed solution is more effective than the existing solution due to the use of classifiers for the analysis of single frames.(c) 2023 ISA. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper provides a detailed analysis of the trajectory and motion planning for ground Agricultural-Robot. the approach is based on: i) scanning and analysis of the selected area;ii) obstacle avoidance behavior;and iii) position and image processing system of Agricultural-Robot. The purpose of this paper is to present the goal-directed robot path planning in the presence of uncertainties and obstacles. The proposed concept has been validated on a simulation test bed that is constructed upon a model of typical Agricultural-Robot and race results that clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the planning system.

Multi-Level Adaptive Wavelet Convolutional Bidirectional Network-Based Demosaicking and Denoising for Digital Color images

Modern digital cameras capture real images sequentially, carrying out various image processing stages. Denoising and demosaicking are often the first two processes, with the former aiming to decrease sensor noise and the latter converting a sequence of light-intensity data into color images. A multi-level adaptive wavelet convolutional bidirectional network (ML-AW-CBiNet) was proposed in this research. The hybrid model of convolutional neural network and bi-long short-term memory with a correlation of color module performs the initial pre-processing stage. The CNN-BiLSTM minimizes denoising and demosaicking. The undesired sounds are eliminated, and the colors of the images are restored in the second stage using the Extended Triple-dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform (E-TriDWT). After that, the features from the proposed model are extracted using the Improved Discrete Cosine Transform (IDCT). The peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index (SSIM) determine the outcomes. The proposed model achieved 37.44 of PSNR and 0.9516 of SSIM, the best among existing models. The results show that the suggested model has a clear advantage over all existing models when the proposed model is compared to existing models. This study employed the Kaggle dataset for testing and training purposes.

Hyperspectral imaging is a powerful remote sensing technology, but its use in space is limited by the large volume of data it produces, which leads to a downlink bottleneck. Therefore, most payloads to date have been oriented towards demonstrating the scientific usefulness of hyperspectral data sporadically over diverse areas rather than detailed monitoring of spatio-spectral dynamics. The key to overcoming the data bandwidth limitation is to process the data on-board the satellite prior to downlink. In this article, the design, implementation, and in-flight demonstration of the on-board processing pipeline of the HYPSO-1 cube-satellite are presented. The pipeline provides not only flexible image processing but also reliability and resilience, characterized by robust booting and updating procedures. The processing time and compression rate of the simplest pipeline, which includes capturing, binning, and compressing the image, are analyzed in detail. Based on these analyses, the implications of the pipeline performance on HYPSO-1's mission are discussed.

Wide researches have been performed in the field of earth slope stability analysis by the use of limit equilibrium, strength reduction, and limit analysis methods. All the available methods present slope factor of safeties in a range with a little difference and confirm each other. It could be validated the analytical results by the help of instrumentation in actual slopes existing in the field. In addition, another approach that can be used for the validation of results is experimental modeling. In experimental simulation, it is required to manufacture the intended model in laboratory concerning the effect of reducing dimensions on the other parameters. In the present paper, it is attempted to investigate slope safety factor against sliding by simulating the slope in laboratory using of image processing system. The test container has dimensions of 1.5 x 1.5 x 2 m. The results have illustrated that when slope angle increased 13 degrees, the crest displacement in reinforced slope is 30 mm in the experimental modeling and 13 mm in numerical analysis. In the unreinforced slope, when the slope angle increased 8 degrees the slope failed and factor of safety in the numerical modeling became less than one.

Hybrid image analysis model for hashtag recommendation through the use of deep learning methods

Content tags of a given image are the basic mechanism used in social networking services. One of the most commonly used websites like Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter is the hashtag. In this paper, we propose a hybrid solution for automatic image description extraction. A network architecture consists of a module for removing main objects from the image for additional classification of other elements on the background via U-NET (neural model designed for segmentation). Obtained images are classified by multi-branch convolutional networks. The results of such a classification are used to describe the probability of belonging to particular classes. Then, the probability of belonging to each class is used to find related linguistic values through the Skip-Gram module. The main advantage of the solution is the possibility of extending the network with additional branches to increase the number of main classes of objects. The proposal was analyzed through the object's classification, the use of learning transfer, and image description on two datasets, i.e. Animals-10 and HARRISON16. Experimental results show that the proposal is a very flexible solution for extending the model to other classes without the need to overtrain the entire architecture and reach higher classification accuracy than other models for social networking services.
