The agricultural sector is one of the most important in the world, having a strategic role in the development of humanity. image processing methods associated with computational mathematical algorithms are widely used today, having applications in many branches of agriculture, closely related to technologies used in precision farming. To achieve increased crop productivity, a number of conditions need to be met. From these, soil moisture has an important role. This is necessary to be continuously monitored to assure the adequate quantity of water for optimal production. In this context, in the paper is proposed a method for soil humidity analysis. These provide an indirect and qualitative soil moisture evaluation method using aerial image processing, in two phases: image acquisition using a drone and the second phase - image processing using a MATLAB algorithm.

Ecological checking, earth-assets mappings, and military frameworks require expansive territory imaging to achieve perfection. Frequently, these pictures must be obtained during the night or during the severe climate. Synthetic-aperture radars (SAR) give such a capacity. Engineered aperture radar frameworks will exploit the long-run spread attributes of a radar signal and the preparation of the intricate data abilities of present-day computerized electronic gadgets to give a high-goals picture. SAR is an emerging technology that has been widely used for more than 20 years in remote sensing areas. It is quite complicate to take an image in remote sensing areas without the use of SARs. This paper provides an overall view of a SAR images using various image processing techniques. These techniques are used to provide high resolutions in SAR images and detect the accuracy of each images.

Cost-effective system for detection and quantification of concrete surface cracks by combination of convolutional neural network and image processing techniques

This study proposed a semi-automated system for crack detection and quantification, based on the com-bination of a trained convolutional neural network (CNN) and a developed application. Specifically, we tested four commonly used CNNs and determined GoogLeNet for this study. Then, the transfer learning and fully training of GoogLeNet were further tested on our testing dataset and a public dataset. The results show that the transfer learning GoogLeNet has relatively balanced performances on these two datasets, with accuracy of 96.69% and 88.39%, respectively. A new sliding window technique (neighbor-hood scanning) was proposed and shown almost equivalent performance to the previous dual scanning method. A method for calculating crack width was presented. The average relative error of this method is 14.58% (0.05 mm), i.e., much smaller than the 36.37% (i.e., 0.14 mm) of the previous method. An appli-cation was then developed to integrate the proposed methods and other techniques such as edge detec-tors, boundary tracking, and threshold segmentation to segment, quantify, and analyze cracks. Verifications on 23 untrained raw images (eleven with 10240 x 2048 pixels, twelve with 2592 x 4608 pixels) show that: (1) the developed system and a previous pixel-level segmentation system require an average of 9.48 s and 10.35 s;(2) these two systems show an 80.40% and a 78.64% average Intersection over Union (IoU). Therefore, the proposed system is a cost-effective solution for detecting and analyzing cracks on concrete surfaces considering its practical performance and time cost. Practically, the proposed system could be used to analyze the images collected from onsite inspection or from experiment. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Development of a 2D and 3D computational algorithm for discontinuity structural geometry identification by artificial intelligence based on image processing techniques

Block geometry is commonly the most important feature determining the behaviour of a rock mass and directly controls the structural instability in underground openings or surface cuttings. Various methods are used to estimate block geometry and to perform a block survey, and these are standardly divided into empirical-based methods (e.g. spot mapping, linear mapping, areal mapping) and computer-based methods (e.g. laser scanning, image processing, digital image mapping). Empirical approaches are associated with effective features as well as with a number of errors;however, the latter can be covered by artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. The combination of image processing and areal mapping have led to geometric block estimation in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) spaces;these approaches can be widely used in stability analysis, dimension stone extraction, excavations, open pit mining design and the delineation of blasting patterns for dimension stone extraction. Therefore, the application of an approach that allows both the modelling and production of rock blocks based on their actual status with qualified accuracy and speed are both worthwhile and necessary. In this study, to estimate the shape and block dimension utilized, we used the algorithm based on the AI image processing technique for rock mass structural detection and for rock block definition in 2D and 3D space obtained with the Mathematica software package. The algorithm, by categorizing the discontinuities in two groups (opened and closed), which represents the main and the secondary discontinuities, can identify the emplacement and shape of rock blocks.

Novel approaches to determine age and gender from dental x-ray images by using multiplayer perceptron neural networks and image processing techniques

It may be necessary to determine the identity or gender of a person for any reason (disasters, inheritance etc.). In such cases, forensic medical institutions are asked for help. Forensic science institutions try to estimate the age of people's teeth and bones. In this study, a novel algorithm was developed to keep these predictions at the highest level and to obtain definite results. The data base of 162 different tooth classes is created manually. All image sizes are 150x150 pixels. First, image preprocessing techniques have been applied to teeth images. These preprocessing techniques were first applied to teeth images. After this process, the segmentation process of the teeth images was performed to extract the feature by novel segmentation algorithm. Segmentation can be done automatically and dynamically. Numerical data obtained as a result of feature extraction from dental images is presented as an inputs to Multi layer perceptron neural network. In application, feature reduction can be performed. Thanks to the originally developed algorithm, the highest success rates were obtained with the highest 99.9% (full segment) and 100% (notfull segment) classification. After classification, for many dental groups the age estimate is performed with zero error. Application was developed as a multidisciplinary study. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) are vulnerable to images that have been altered with well-engineered and imperceptible perturbations. We propose three color quantization pre-processing techniques to make DCNNs more robust to adversarial perturbation including Gaussian smoothing and PNM color reduction (GPCR), color quantization using Gaussian smoothing and K-means (GK-means), and fast GK-means. We evaluate the approaches on a subset of the imageNet dataset. Our evaluation reveals that our GK-means-based algorithms have the best top-1 accuracy. We also present the trade-off between GK-means-based algorithms and GPCR with respect to computational time.

From naval to aerospace and industry to household, everywhere the necessity of aluminum is felt. But oxide film can be formed on this metal and its alloys during casting or welding due to high affinity of aluminum for oxygen. This phenomenon can further lead to porosity which is a vital defect. Visual inspection is not sufficient due to different human constraints. So, many image processing techniques have been developed. For better welding, we propose here two useful and efficient techniques. Unlike most of the previous techniques, our proposed techniques are color based processing. In this manuscript, our main goal is to detect oxide film and we show that the task is successfully done by our methods.

This paper inspects and analyzes the mold quality which rectifies the challenges faced by the metal casting foundries. Current quality control methods include, stopping the productivity to check the mold condition periodically leading to a production loss of about 5% a day. This requires manpower to check mold condition periodically. Using machine vision, we can capture the mold image in real time and analyze the quality of the mold and alert the operator on faulty mold and initiate cleaning procedures when necessary here by saving costs and improving productivity. The developed IoT inspection device consists of a camera which captures the mold images periodically whenever the mold is created and checks the mold condition and analyzes each mold's quality by extracting features and comparing it to a reference image which is implemented by Raspberry Pi3.

Evaluation of plum fruit maturity by image processing techniques

Maturity is the key factor which determines the storage life and ripening quality of fruits. In order to provide marketing flexibility and to guarantee the acceptable eating quality to the buyer it is very critical to determine the right maturity stage. Maturity indices are also important for trade regulation, marketing strategy and for the efficient use of labor and resources. The proposed system is based on implementation of image processing techniques on the JPEG images of different maturity stages of the plum variety 'Satluj Purple' grown under sub-tropical conditions. The external quality features like color, texture and size were analyzed. Color feature was extracted by using mean RGB values. Entropy, Local Binary Pattern and Discrete Cosine transformation were used for extracting textural features. Correlation coefficients between images of various categories were recorded to determine the most dominant factor for classification. Multi-Attribute Decision Making theory was used for taking final decision. The developed system accurately determined the maturity level. Color was found to be the most dominant factor for classifying the plums according to maturity level. The error percentage was less than 2.4%, when the length and width computed from application were compared with the manual readings. When RGB indices of fruit images were correlated with chemical properties of fruits, strong association was found between fruit acidity and mean intensity of green color (R-2 = 0.9966). Significant variability in total soluble solids was also explained by variation in R/G ratio (R-2 = 0.8464).

As a result of some events (disasters, inheritance, disappearances etc.), age and gender determination can be vital for people. Forensic medical institutions make the determination of age by examining the structures such as teeth and bones. Procedures for forensic science are currently estimated manually according to certain morphological findings on the tooth. In this study, 1313 panoramic dental images were used automatically to estimate age. image preprocessing is applied on these images. Trapezoidal teeth are corrected in the coordinate plane to obtain more accurate and standard results. In the study, the correction process is done with original and novel developed algorithm. Dental images are automatically and dynamically segmented and feature vectors are created by extracting their features. The generated feature vectors are dynamic and presented as inputs to the Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network. Depending on the request, the number of input count reduction process can be performed. In this study, age and gender were determined from dental x-ray images with novel and originally developed algorithm. The application is written in C # programming language. In some tooth groups, the highest classification rate of 100% and age determination with 0 error were performed. With this study, age determination in forensic science will be more accurate.
