Selective macroblock level switching for model-based coded video

Previous switched model-based coders have employed switching techniques at a high level, switching the entire frame between an H.261 coded image and a model-based image according to a bit-rate/quality metric. The performance of a new scheme, in which the switching takes place in selected regions, is reported. Subjective quality and PSNR are improved, particularly for large rotational or translational motion.

Network slimming for compressed-sensing cardiac cine MRI

The Unet is attempted to be slimmed for compressed-sensing cardiac cine magnetic resonance imaging. Despite the excellent performance of the U-net, its heavy structure and long training time restrict its applications in an environment with limited computational resources. We slimmed the U-net by changing the multiple convolutions to single convolution and the transpose convolution to upsampling and by adopting fewer layers, without performance degradation. The number of trainable weights and training time of the slimmed network was reduced by 87.9% and 48.1%, respectively. The proposed network showed improved performance with a 1.45% reduction in the normalised mean square error.

The authors propose a motion estimation (ME) algorithm fcr determining a motion vector which minimises the estimated total number of bits allocated to the motion vector and to the residual discrete cosine transform coefficients. This rate-optimised ME algorithm contributes to an improved reconstructed image quality and a reduced number of coding bits per frame.

Rate allocation for video transmission over lossy correlated networks

A novel rate allocation algorithm for video transmission over lossy networks subject to bursty packet losses is presented. A Gilbert-Elliot model is used at the encoder to drive the selection of coding parameters. Experimental results using the H.26L test model show a significant performance improvement with respect to the assumption of independent packet losses.

Map data watermarking using generalised square mask

An algorithm for watermark insertion and extraction on the vector image, such as map data, is presented. Most parts of the vector image, such as map data, consist of the array of the coordinate values. At first, the image is partitioned into blocks with the same area and every vertex coordinate value within a block is changed to a new coordinate value with an origin at the south-west vertex of the mask belonging to the associated block. According to the value of watermark, the insertion area is different. Unlike the work by Sakamoto et al, it should be possible to use a square mask of arbitrary size. The mask of the Sakamoto et al.'s, work is specific since the length of the mask is 2(R) - 1 where R = 1, 2,...., n. It is also shown that the proposed method is superior to the previous work against noise attack.
