An image convolution-based method for the irregular stone packing problem in wall construction

The use of natural stones as building material can help reducing the carbon footprint of the construction industry. However, their non -uniform shapes makes the construction of stone masonry structures challenging. Therefore, the development of efficient algorithms for the stacking of irregular stones obeying structural and architectonic requirements is essential. In this paper, we propose an image -based method for automating the stacking of non -uniform stones in the construction of 2D load -resistant stone masonry walls. Stone wedging, a traditional technique employed by skilled masons, is implemented to reinforce the stability of stone placements. We use image processing for accelerating the stone selection and placement, and determine the wall's resistance using a variational rigid -block modeling approach. It is demonstrated that the developed method is efficient and robust in challenging conditions. The analysis of the computational performance of the presented method shows that it is suitable for automated construction.

Determination of the lower boundary of a rotating ice patch for ice thickness estimation using image convolution and machine learning

As the number of trips along the Arctic route has increased, the safe navigation of icebreakers on this route has become vital. One of the key factors that affect the stability of an icebreaker is the ice thickness in the route. The ice thickness, if measured in real time during navigation, can aid in the construction of an ice map or can be used for the structural analysis of the icebreaker after the voyage. However, the measurement of ice thickness during the voyage is challenging. In this study, a method to improve the measurement of ice thickness from an image is introduced. To measure the ice thickness accurately and quickly, a method to identify the lower boundary curve of the cross-section of an ice patch is developed. Pixel-based constraints are determined by considering the characteristics of color variation in an image. In this method, the lower boundary curve is determined by using image convolution and a specific filter, and the performance efficiency is enhanced through a machine learning technique. The results suggest that an accumulating learning process can increase the recognition rate.

image processing is an important technique that is used in many fields, such as self-driving vehicles or facial recognition. One method is called image convolution, which involves many calculations that manipulate the pixels of an image to produce a new image with a desired effect. This is computation intensive and requires a significant amount of time when run on a traditional computer processing unit (CPU). Since image processing is used for real-time applications, such as those mentioned above, it is essential that convolution algorithms run as quickly as possible. A common way to speed up image convolution algorithms is to take advantage of the highly parallel structure of graphical processing units (GPU) to perform concurrent calculations. One problem with GPU applications is that they are often limited by the latency delays associated with transferring data between the CPU and the GPU. Previous works have looked into different ways to address this issue and optimize GPU programs. This research aims to explore different memory implementations and compare them to see which is best at optimizing data transfers.

Writing image processing in WebAssembly enables the development of highly portable libraries. However, since WebAssembly is a new technology, there are not enough libraries available, and it is only supported by OpenCV. However, OpenCV has not been optimized specifically for WebAssembly. Therefore, in this paper, we develop native code using WebAssembly and compare it with OpenCV's Gaussian filter using the separable Gaussian filter, a classical acceleration method for Gaussian filters. Experimental results showed that the Separable Gaussian filter was faster than OpenCV by performing vector operations in WebAssembly.

This paper proposes an IP hierarchy based on 3 X 3 convolution template to construct large-scale image convolution architecture, such as 6 X 6, 9 X 9 or more. It's an aid to speed up the designing for image-processing hardware system. The key hierarchies of 3x3 image convolution consist of parallel convolutions and pipelined multipliers. The hierarchies are designed for top-model with structural VHDL and all sub-models with RTL VHDL. The system is divided into some models and connected all after synthesized independently. Cadence and Synopsys are utilized for VHDL simulation and for synthesis respectively in order to obtain the preferable effects.

Whether it's capturing a car's license plate on the highway or detecting someone's facial features to tag friends, computer vision and image processing have found their way into many facets of our lives. image and video processing algorithms ultimately tailor towards one of two goals: to analyze data and produce output in as close to real-time as possible, or to take in and operate on large swaths of information offline. image convolution is a mathematical method with which we can filter an image to highlight or make clearer desired information. The most popular uses of image convolution accentuate edges, corners, and facial features for analysis. The goal of this project was to investigate various image convolution algorithms and compare them in terms of hardware usage, power utilization, and ability to handle substantial amounts of data in a reasonable amount of time. The algorithms were designed, simulated, and synthesized for the Zynq-7000 FPGA, selected both for its flexibility and low power consumption.

We consider a secure image processing workflow where the data owner keeps their raw imagery encrypted at all times to reduce the risk of sensitive information exposure in the event of a data breach. However, the owner also makes unencrypted, convolution-filtered versions of the images available to consumers (upon request) who specify a convolution kernel. To acheive this work-flow, we utilize homomorphic encryption through the Paillier cryptosystem. We start by considering a simple approach where each pixel is encrypted separately. To reduce overall computation, we next develop a more complex approach where vectors of pixels are batched before encryption (an idea applied by others to different image processing algorithms). Through simulation experiments, we observe the approach involving batching to require one to two orders of magnitude less computation time.

This paper proposes a hardware design of high-throughput and resource-saving image convolution. The key part of the design is consist of two aspects, buffer and computing part. For the buffer part, serial shifting register chain has been applied to buffer some of the pixels so that large number of buffer resources could be saved, thus realizing data multiplex;as for computing part, logic resource consumed is not much but time consumed for the serial convolution operation is too long. Since buffer part consumes little resource, logic duplication can be used to realize parallel design, thus accelerating the convolution operation, which reduces the time consumed largely and makes the throughput higher. In one word, this design not only accelerates the convolution operation, but also reduces the consumed resources.

Colour image edge detector based on quaternion convolution

A new type of edge-detecting filter is presented, based on a new type of image convolution in which colour images are convolved with a pair of quaternion-valued (hypercomplex) masks. When applied to a colour image, the new filter converts areas of smoothly-varying colour to shades of grey;and generates colours in regions where colour (but not intensity) edges occur in the image. The result may be easily thresholded for chromaticity to produce an edge image exhibiting colour only where the original image exhibited a sharp change of colour.

Rip Current Identification in Optical images Using Wavelet Transform

Rip currents are fast-moving, narrow channels of water that flow seaward from the shoreline, typically forming within the surf zone and extending beyond the wave-breaking region. These currents pose significant hazards to swimmers, contributing to numerous drowning incidents, especially with the increasing popularity of ocean recreation. Despite their prevalence, rip currents remain difficult to detect visually, and no universally reliable method exists for their identification by beachgoers. To address this challenge, this study presents a novel approach for detecting rip currents in optical images using wavelet-based edge detection and image convolution techniques. Five identification criteria were established based on previous literature and expert observations. The proposed program incorporates image augmentation, averaging, and frame aggregation to enhance generalization and accuracy. Experimental analysis involving four iterations and four wavelet bases demonstrated that using two iterations with the Daubechies wavelet yielded the highest interpretation accuracy (88.3%). Performance evaluation using a confusion matrix further confirmed an accuracy rate of 83.0%. The results indicate that the proposed method identifies rip currents in images, offering a valuable tool for researchers studying rip current patterns. This approach lays the groundwork for future advancements in rip current detection and related research.
