Real-time observation and measurement of a magneto-optic recorded domain using an image processing technique

A system to observe the magnetic domain recorded on a magneto-optic disk with a multi-layer structure was suggested. The four parts, reading. writing, erasing and domain observation, are combined into a whole. By applying a digital image processing technique, the blurred domain image can be segmented and enhanced, and the domain morphology can be observed directly under various recording conditions. Additionally, the resolution and pixel spacing for the image system are discussed. In an experiment using this system we observed the domain on a direct overwrite disk and a non-direct overwrite disk, and analyzed the reasons for the difference. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. The investigation of orientation angle effect of random elliptical obstacles on permeability and tortuosity in porous media using image processing technique and Lattice Boltzmann Method

In this numerical study, the fluid flow through fluid-saturated porous media with random elliptical obstacles was simulated using the Two Relaxation Times mode and D2Q9 model of second discretization version of Lattice Boltzmann Method. For the generation of porous media and geometrical calculations, the image processing technique was applied. The mathematical programs were validated by the calculation of hydrodynamic entrance length for the developing Poiseuille flow between two fixed parallel flat plates. Also, another validation was executed regarding the satisfaction of continuity equation for fluid flow through porous media. The results obtained from these two validations confirmed the existence of very good precision for calculations. Besides, with using Darcy's law, the dimensionless permeability was calculated and the variation of it with respect to aspect ratio was explored. The effect of orientation angle (theta) and rotation of elliptical obstacles on the properties of porous media such as dimensionless permeability and streamline-based tortuosity was completely investigated. The streamline-based tortuosity as a function of porosity was also surveyed in this work. With the help of a novel algorithm, written in C language, the stream functions were calculated and the streamlines and also the velocity vectors in various porous media were depicted, too. image processing technique (IPT) is a computational technique which is a simple, wide and great for many purposes. In this paper, we used IPT to obtain plasma source such as sun and sunspot temperatures. Sun image was taken by a telescope and DSLR camera and imported to MATLAB software. Using the IPT, we cropped two areas and evaluated their RGB values, using a code which was written according to Python software. We computed wavelengths and then by substituting wavelengths in Wien's law, we obtained sun's surface and sunspot temperature's. The temperature errors for surface and sunspot were 0.57% and 13% respectively. (C) 2016 The Author. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The Computed Tomography (CT) scan image is the most reliable method and mostly used in radiotherapy as it is of low cost yet efficient compared to the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan. The characteristics of brain tumor cases in the CT scan image are explored to obtain useful information according to their grey level intensity and Hounsfield Unit (HU). Therefore, the rapid development of the image processing technique has been widely proposed to explore more to further reveal the information of the CT scan grey level intensity. This study proposes a computed technique in processing the CT scan images including the segmentation, enhancement and filtering processes. The clustering algorithm of Fuzzy C-Mean (FCM) is used to cluster the CT scan images into 3 regions. The FCM is used to separate the CT scan images into three parts namely the hone, brain and tumor regions. Then, the intensity of the regions obtained is measured and compared with HU. The result shows that there is a strong correlation between the grey level intensity value and HU. This computer-aided technique hopefully could help the radiologists to perform a better diagnose on the brain tumor images.

Determining Sequence of image processing technique (IPT) to Detect Adversarial Attacks

Various adversarial attack methods pose a threat to secure machine learning models. Pre-processing-based defense against adversarial input was not adequate, and they are vulnerable to adaptive attacks. Our study proposed a dynamic pre-process-based defense technique leveraging a Genetic Algorithm that can defend against traditional adaptive attacks. We described our methodology and performed experiments using multiple datasets tested with several adversarial attacks. Our thorough empirical experiments exhibited encouraging outcomes indicating that the procedure can efficiently utilize an adversarial defense for any learning model. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The corrosion images of LY12CZ aluminum alloy with different corrosion time were obtained from accelerated corrosion experiment. The changing law of pits corrosion ratio at different corrosion time and corresponding corrosion grade were attained through image processing technique based on binary characteristic extraction. A new thought of corrosion damage evolvement law for aluminum alloy was proposed based on Corrosion grade which was regarded as the evaluation standard of corrosion damage for aluminum alloy.

Durian, a renowned fruit in Southeast Asia, particularly in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, poses a challenge during its season as the manual classification of a large stock of durians based on grade and quality becomes a laborious task for sellers. This project aims to streamline the process by employing image processing techniques for the classification of durians into defect and non-defect categories. The methodology involves image collection and image filtering analysis using Gaussian and Median filters, followed by applying Canny edge detection techniques to identify the durian region. Subsequently, classification algorithms based on pixel connection are deployed to distinguish between defect and non-defect durians. The obtained results reveal comparable accuracy and precision rates for both defect and non-defect durian images, standing at 87% and 75%, respectively. This project successfully demonstrates the feasibility of automating durian classification through image processing methods.

Energy saving approaches for interior lighting, especially for governmental and nongovernmental offices, is significant for every country around the world. As energy sources decrease, greenhouse gas emissions increase. So, lighting energy savings should be considered more seriously. In this study, energy saving potential of an office building is examined by using electrical data collected from the camera integrated automated lighting control system and energy consumption is reduced by an image processing technique accordingly. The goal of this study is to improve the system energy parameters and increase the energy saving potential of the lighting system.

Quantification and characterizing of soil microstructure features by image processing technique

An analyzing program SMAS based on digital image processing technique is developed for quantifying soil microstructure. By using SMAS, a series of geometrical and morphological indexes of soil particles/pores in microscale can be quantitatively determined. Three examples of using SMAS to quantify the microstructure features are shown. The analyzing results indicate that the developed program can effectively identify the morphology of soil particle and pore and accurately extract the soil microstructure indexes. A classification criterion for particle shape category is proposed based on the obtained values of morphology ratio and roundness. Moreover, effects of magnification and observation area of SEM images on the quantitative analysis results are discussed. It is important to select an appropriate magnification and observation area can cover as much structural information as possible while with high imaging quality. A recommendation approach is to stitch several images with relatively high magnification to one large image for quantification. Moreover, performing multiple scans on different zones of interest and then making comparative analysis is also an effective way to reduce quantification errors in microstructure observation. The findings of this investigation would be valuable for improving the reliability of quantitative characterization of soil microstructure on the basis of SEM images.

Spacing and block volume estimation in discontinuous rock masses using image processing technique: a case study

Application of the image processing techniques (IPT) to identify rock mass geometry provides more fast information about discontinuity properties used in geo-engineering characteristics. In this regard, the field survey can be improved using IPT. This study has utilised the IPT to identify the discontinuity and block volume characteristics in a discontinuous rock mass. For this purpose, a visual evaluation of the rock mass outcrop with discontinuities from a road slope cut located in the South Pars Special Zone, Assalouyeh, Iran, was considered. A three-step IPT analysis (i.e. pre-processing, main processing, and post-processing) was conducted to extract the features through the Python programming language. Regarding the IPT methodology, the studied rock mass characteristics consist of four major discontinuity sets and rock block volumes between the intersections of the discontinuities, as confirmed with a scan-line field survey. The evaluated data indicated that the maximum, minimum, and average block volumes processed by the IPT were 1.068, 0.479, and 1.055 m(3), and their field measurement results were 1.092, 0.479, and 1.065 m(3), respectively. Additionally, the orientations of the estimated discontinuity properties and their spacings determined by IPT for the rock mass ranging between 32 and 69.9 degrees and 0.5 and 2.18 m, respectively. Similarly, the orientations of the field measurement results were also obtained between 33 and 71 degrees and 0.58 and 2.25 m, respectively. The results of the IPT and the field survey were close, which revealed that the IPT is a reliable method for determining discontinuity spacing and rock block volume along large cut slopes. This approach provided rapid data processing with spatial extensions in a short period, making it possible to achieve accurate results in discontinuity network characteristics.
