An integrated hardware and software application to support wound measurement using a 3d scanner and image processing techniques

Aim: To build wounds volume(3D) and area(2D) measuring system and device. Background: The measurement of the wound depth has been troublesome due to difficulty fo the procedures, physicians mostly avoid inspecting the wound depth as it could cause wound inflammation and infection. Objective: To build a contactless device for measuring wound volume and develop the system to support the wound treatment process which offers precise measurement and wound healing progression. Methods: Build a machine to control and stabilize 3D-scanner over the wound using a servo motor and apply the image processing technique to calculate the wound's area and volume. Comparing the machine accuracy by using Archimedes's principle testing with various wound model sizes, made from folding clay and pork rinds. Results: The device and system generate an error value of less than 15% which is within a satisfactory level. Conclusion: Knowing the wound depth is vital for the treatment, direct contact to the wound area can cause inflammation, infection, and increase time to heal. This device will help physicians to get more insight into the wound and improve the treatment plan for the patients. There are certain limitations to be considered for future work. Firstly, different software components used in the image processing and estimation process could be integrated to enhance user experience. Secondly, it is possible to apply Machine Learning techniques to identify the wounded area on the wound image file. © 2020 Tassanavipas & Natsupakpong.

The different carbon nanotube(CNT)particles(^(@)A and^(@)V)were bed materials in the pseudo-2D tapered fluidized bed(TFB)with/without a distributor.A detailed investigation of the motion mechanism of bubbles was carried *** high-speed photography and image analysis techniques were used to study bubble characteristic and mixing behavior in the tapered angle of TFB without a *** fractal analysis method was used to analyze the degree of particles *** showed that an S-shaped motion trajectory of bubbles was captured in the bed of^(@)V *** population of observational bubbles in the bed of^(@)V particles was more than that of^(@)A particles,and the bubble size was smaller in the bed of^(@)V particles than that of^(@)A *** motion mechanism of bubbles had been shown to be related to bed materials and initial bed height in terms of analysis and comparison of bubble diameter,bubble aspect ratio and bubble shape ***,compared to the TFB with a distributor,the TFB without a distributor had been proved to be beneficial to the CNT fluidization according to the study of bubble characteristic and the degree of the particle ***,it was found that the mixing behavior of^(@)V particles was better than^(@)A particles in the tapered angle of TFB without a distributor.

image unmosaicing without location information using stacked GAN

image mosaicing is an image processing technique that is most commonly used to conceal identities of sensitive objects. The authors' research features recovering the mosaiced parts in an image, especially focusing on facial parts. While recent image completion methods based on deep learning have shown promising results on recovering damaged parts in an image, they have not addressed the problem of image unmosaicing. Moreover, all those methods necessitate the location information of damaged parts to tackle the recovery problem. They formulate unmosaicing as an image-to-image translation problem, and propose a two-stage method using generative adversarial network (GAN): stage-I GAN generates a coarse prediction followed by stage-II GAN which produces a final unmosaiced image with finer information. A combination of low-level 1, loss and high-level structural similarity loss is used to attain visually plausible and semantically consistent output. They have evaluated their method on the CelebA dataset and achieved better results than state-of-the-art image completion methods without explicitly exploiting the location information of mosaiced parts.

Plasma transferred arc additive manufacturing (PTA-AM) is a high volume and high speed directed energy deposition (DED) technique that uses metal powder as a feedstock material to build up 3-dimensional (3D) components, layer by layer. In the PTA-AM process, the quality of the build is a function of several parameters, including but not limited to the powder feed rate, the torch travel speed, stand-off distance (SOD), and plasma arc current. Unlike the laser DED systems, the melt pool and laser visualization are not possible through inline imaging systems. These processes have difficulty sustaining uniform evenly distributed powder flow between the nozzle and the substrate. For the constant operating parameters, the process requires in-depth attention to inspect the quality and geometrical features of bead deposition, which may alter due to continuous mechanical connection with the deposition process. Surprisingly, no work is reported in plasma-based DED systems to determine the process parameter influence on build quality using image processing technique. Therefore, in this work, high-speed imaging is employed to analyze and quantify the process parameters of the PTA-AM and their effects on the bead quality and geometry. The experiments of single-track multi-layer bead deposition of Tungsten Carbide (WC)-reinforced NiCrBSi composites are carried out and recorded with a high-speed camera. Based on captured 2D image data, the image processing techniques are developed using Matlab and image-Pro premier software. The proposed techniques optimize and validate the SOD to print the stable bead and maintain the higher powder catchment efficiency at the deposition zone. It is also used to assess the process stability (uniform powder flow) and the impact of powder flow variation on the bead height. A new perspective on the measurements of wax appearance temperature: Comparison between DSC, thermomicroscopy and rheometry and the cooling rate effects

Knowledge on wax appearance temperature (WAT), amongst other properties, is essential in designing the facilities involved in the transportation and processing of waxy crude oil. Several measurement techniques and equipment are currently available to measure the WAT. However, differences in the values measured from different measurement platforms may result in conflicting decisions. In this work, the WAT of several crude oils, representing mild, medium and severe waxy crude oils are measured utilizing current advanced and precise equipment;a micro differential scanning calorimeter (micro-DSC) capable of providing measurements at low cooling rates, a cross polar microscopy (CPM) coupled with an image processing technique and a controlled stress rheometer. Several rheological protocols to measure WAT especially at low shear and strains to better replicate the static cooling measurements in the micro-DSC as well as under CPM are assessed. The effects of cooling rate on the WAT and wax aggregation as well as the WAT comparison from the various equipments under cooling rate of 1 degrees C/min are explored and discussed in detail. The results show that the WAT measured from different platforms is highly influenced by the precipitation rate, the type of wax (micro or macro crystalline), the cooling rate as well as the imposed shear. The advancement of micro-DSC and rheometer technology provides better sensitivity for WAT measurement than microscopy observation under CPM.

Prediction of Viscoelastic Behavior in Asphalt Concrete Using the Fast Multipole Boundary Element Method

This paper describes an application of the fast multipole boundary element method (FMBEM) in simulating the viscoelastic behavior of asphalt concrete (AC). FMBEM has some merits including easy meshing of complicated geometries, accuracy in solving singular fields, high calculation efficiency, and low data storage requirements. These merits lead to many applications in multiple time-step and multi-inclusion problems, such as prediction of AC creep behavior. In this paper, a fast multipole formulation and an algorithm for two-dimensional linear viscoelastic problems are introduced first. To consider the bonding between the asphalt matrix and aggregates, a viscoelastic interface model is used to simulate the interfacial imperfection. A numerical model of asphalt concrete is then constructed based on image processing techniques, and the model is capable of taking into account the effects of the size and content of the air voids. The creep compliance of AC is predicted by the developed FMBEM arithmetic and subsequently compared with the experimental results. Detection of transformer winding faults using FRA and image features

Frequency response analysis (FRA) is a widely used approach for detecting winding faults in a transformer. Appropriate and quantitative FRA features will help to improve the accuracy of fault diagnosis. In this study, a novel FRA interpretation including new image features is proposed based on the image processing technique. First, winding faults of different windings are simulated in a test autotransformer and the FRA curves are measured under various faults. Then frequency region division method and image processing technique are first applied to the measured FRA curves. The area ratio and centroid deviation in different frequency regions are calculated through a novel algorithm. Finally, the image features are used as the inputs to support vector machine model. Additionally, three different parametric optimisation algorithm are compared during the training process. The results show that the particle swarm optimisation and image feature exhibit best performance for identifying winding faults.

A digital image processing model for characteristics capture and analysis of irregular electronic components

Amid diversification, high performance, high integration, and low-cost development in consumer electronic products, the conventional system on board function integration model is giving way to system on chip (SoC). Layout of solder balls under ball grid array (BGA) is getting irregular as system in package (SiP) is integrating multi-chip module and couple of active and passive components along with more complex circuit design. Due to the shortening life cycles of consumer electronic products and frequent new product launches, the incoming inspection operation of electronic components is getting tedious, let alone the component database updates required by mounter are also getting more frequent and time consuming due to increasingly complex and diversified components and soaring demands in characteristic measurement and identification difficulties. This study is aimed at building automated characteristic capture and analysis image processing model for BGA packages of irregular solder ball layout. It employs edge detection to get component body looks and dimensions by enhanced component edge characteristics. A image pre-processing model is used to identify consistency of individual solder ball characteristics with median filter, highlight image characteristics with binary conversion, remove noise with morphology, and connected component labeling to segment area covered by individual characteristic. In addition, a roundness and aspect ratio of the least rectangle-based solder ball characteristics identification method is proposed to determine number of, diameter of, and coordinates of center of border solder balls. The component characteristics acquired by the model comes in +/- 3% difference against the actual one in terms of dimension. The model appears a good reference for system packaging operator in component database creation for the launch of new products in terms of reduced time for manual measurement and error as well as loss in mounter capacity. This investigation presented a quantitative evaluation technique of the hole entrance chippings with respect to the image processing technology. Considering the nucleation and propagation processes of lateral cracks, the chipping formation mechanisms involved in rotary ultrasonic drilling of glass BK7 were also explored incorporated with the abrasive kinematics and the fracture mechanics of brittle material. As a result, it was revealed that each individual chipping represented a smooth appearance at the chipping inside, and the instantaneous nature of the lateral crack formation process was responsible for this damage feature. Moreover, the friction effects between the abrasive and the material caused the lateral crack suffering from the extra torsional moment, resulting in the scattered fracture stripes on the chipping outside. A novel evaluation method of hole entrance quality, founded on the pixel rate of the chipping area to hole perimeter, was proposed, which could provide a more accurate measurement by considering the comprehensive effects of all chippings on the entrance quality. The increased rotation speed of the tool prolonged the plastic deformation region in the interior material along the abrasive scratching direction, severely deteriorating the entrance quality of the drilled hole.

Experimental and numerical analysis of three-point bending fracture of pre-notched asphalt mixture beam

The experiments are combined with the discrete element simulations to investigate the three-point bending fracture of pre-notched asphalt mixture and evaluate the effects of aggregate distribution and pre-notch dislocation on fracture. Compared with aggregate distribution, pre-notch location is a more important effect factor for the crack path. The crack-path deviation angle, the critical fracture load, and the critical fracture displacement generally increase with the increasing pre-notch offset. The three-point bending fracture of asphalt mixture is of Mode I and induced by high normal contact force concentration. Due to some random factors and the narrow limitation of 2D simulations, two discrepancies are also found in the crack-path deviation angle and the critical fracture load. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
