The needed interpolation of keystone transformation used for every subaperture is the bottleneck of imaging for lower frequency synthetic aperture radar (SAR) especially for ultra wide band (UWB) SAR with planar sub aperture processing (PSAP). An interpolation method for keystone transformation is presented. By mending the algorithm, the redundant computation of its realization is eliminated, and the efficiency of the algorithm is improved notably. The computer simulation and the real data test results show that the modified PSAP can be applied to real-time UWB-SAR imaging of wide scene with fine resolution.

An imaging algorithm which can generate high resolution near-field synthetic aperture radar images is presented. The algorithm requires only a small fractional bandwidth and is not computationally intensive. Images are produced in a format familiar to the human visual system and provide a more complete characterisation of the polarimetric scattering distribution of a target. A new derivation of the algorithm is presented and its characteristics and limitations are described and formulated. The focusing process is validated by simulations and practical measurements on test targets. Sidelobe reduction is carried out by application of the SVA filtering algorithm. Finally, the technique is applied to the imaging of a small larch tree and the images presented clearly demonstrate the dependency of the target response on the system polarisation.

Frequency scaling approach is a new spotlight SAR image formation algorithm [1]. It precisely performs the range cell migration correction (RCMC) for dechirped raw data without interpolation by using a novel frequency scaling operation while residual video phase (RVP) is corrected simultaneously. The computation requirements are lower than the other spotlight SAR image formation approaches such as polar format algorithm (PFA) and range migration algorithm (RMA). In this paper, frequency scaling algorithm is applied to process high squint spotlight data. The new squint illumination geometry is defined and some modifications to the basic algorithm are presented. Point target simulations up to 45 deg squint angle are carried out to show the validity of the algorithm.

A new motion compensation method for Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) is presented in this paper. It is a result of the improvement on the previously presented cross-correlation method. The new method is based on dynamic range compression and accumulation of consecutive range profiles to improve the range and phase alignment accuracy, and can obtain images with higher quality. Moreover, it provides a basis for further compensating for the other causes of defocus in an ISAR image.
