With the introduction of renewable based distributed generation, optimal siting and sizing of Distributed Generators (DGs) has become an important problem. This paper attempts a comparative study of two meta-heuristic algorithms named as improvedharmonysearch (IHS) and bacterial foraging-differential evolution (BF-DE), for optimal DG placement. The effect of various levels of DG penetration is also studied. Results for four test systems 10 bus, 15 bus, 33 bus and 69 bus are presented.

The goal of this paper is find the best design in terms of cost for analyzing the renewable energy sources available in a rural area of Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan, India considering the average hourly solar insolation and load profile of that location which will help the small village avail electricity. In this paper, the size of standalone PV system with battery energy storage are determined so that the system will be sufficient to supply the load as well as the total annual cost of the system (ACS) remains as minimum as possible. The simulation by improved harmony search algorithm (IHSA) method is proposed to determine the size of the PV system with battery energy storage with an objective of minimizing the levelized cost of energy (LCE) within the frame work of system operation constraints. Additionally, a study of operating hours of diesel generator (DG) in optimal configuration is presented.

Modular design includes module identification and module assembly. To obtain the optimization project of module identification, the assured customer requirements must be gained. So, the gain technology of assured customer requirements, which using gray system theory, is proposed in this paper. Then, the assured customer requirements should be change to the factors of product function, performance, physics and so on. After to gain above factors' relation matrix, a synthesis design structure matrix can be obtain. An optimization function which based on the axiomatic design theory is established. Then, a new numerical optimization approach about product module identification, which used improved harmony search algorithm, is presented in this paper. This approach is tested several times. The optimization project can be attaining at each time. The result demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed approaches. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. The objective of task assignment problem (TAP) is to minimize the sum of interprocessor communication and task processing costs for a distributed system which subjects to several resource constraints. We use a novel global harmonysearchalgorithm (NGHS) to solve this problem, and the NGHS algorithm has demonstrated higher efficiency than the improved harmony search algorithm (IHS) on finding the near optimal task assignment. We also devise a new method called normalized penalty function method to tradeo (R) the costs and the constraints. A large number of experiments show that our algorithm performs well on finding the near optimal task assignment, and it is a viable approach for the task assignment problem. (C) 2010 Elsevier Inc.
