Computer-aided generation of virtual worlds is vital in modern content production. To manuallycreate all the details which todays computers can visualize would be too daunting atask for any number of artists. Procedural algorithms can quickly generate content, but thecontent suffers from being repetitive. Simulation of geological processes produce good resultsbut require a lot of *** this report a solution is presented which combines procedural algorithms with geologicalsimulation in the form of erosion. A pre-processing stage generates a heightfield using proceduralnoise which is then eroded. The erosion is accelerated by being performed on the GPU.A road network is generated by connecting points scattered in the world. The pre-processedworld is then used to define a field function. The function is sampled in a grid as neededto produce voxels with different materials. Roads are added to the world by changing thematerial of the voxels. The voxels are then rendered as textured tiles depending on *** generated worlds are varied and interesting, much more so than worlds created purelyby procedural methods. A world can be pre-processed within a few minutes and explored inrealtime

Image completion is a process of removing an area from a photograph and replacing it with suitable data. Earlier methods either search for this relevant data within the image itself, or extends the search to some form of additional data, usually some form of *** that search for suitable data within the image itself has problems when no suitable data can be found in the image. Methods that extend their search has in earlier work either used some form of database with labeled images or a massive database with photos from the Internet. For the labels in a database to be useful they typically needs to be entered manually, which is a very time consuming process. Methods that uses databases with millions of images from the Internet has issues with copyrighted images, storage of the photographs and computation *** work shows that a small database of the user’s own private, or professional, photos can be used to improve the quality of image completions. A photographer today typically take many similar photographs on similar scenes during a photo session. Therefore a smaller number of images are needed to find images that are visually and structurally similar, than when random images downloaded from the internet are ***, this approach gains most of the advantages of using additional data for the image completions, while at the same time minimizing the disadvantages. It gains a better ability to find suitable data without having to process millions of irrelevant photos

information security has always been a topic of concern in the world as an emphasis on new techniques to secure the identity of a legitimate user is regarded as top priority. To counter such an issue, we have a traditional way of authentication factors “what you have” and “what you know” in the form of smart cards or passwords respectively. But biometrics is based on the factor “who are you” by analyzing human physical or behavioral characteristics. Biometrics has always been an efficient way of authorization and is now considered as a $1500 million industry where fingerprints dominate the biometrics while iris is quickly emerging as the most desirable form of biometric *** main goal of this thesis is to compare and evaluate different biometrics techniques in terms of their purpose, recognition mechanism, market value and their application areas. Since there are no defined evaluating criteria, my method of evaluation was based on a literature survey from internet, books, IEEE papers and technical surveys. Chapter 3 is focused on different biometrics techniques where I discuss them briefly but in chapter 4, I go deeper into Iris, fingerprints, facial techniques which are prominent in biometrics world. Lastly, I had a general assessment of the biometrics, their future growth and suggested specific techniques for different environment like access controls, e-commerce, national ids, and surveillance

How visual information is encoded in spikes of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) is essential in visual neuroscience. In the present study, we investigated the coding properties of mouse RGCs with dual-peak patterns with respect to visual stimulus intervals. We first analyzed the response properties, and observed that the latencies and spike counts of the two response peaks in the dual-peak pattern exhibited systematic changes with the preceding light-OFF interval. We then applied linear discriminant analysis (LDA) to assess the relative contributions of response characteristics of both peaks in information coding regarding the preceding stimulus interval. It was found that for each peak, the discrimination results were far better than chance level based on either latency or spike count, and were further improved by using the combination of the two parameters. Furthermore, the best discrimination results were obtained when latencies and spike counts of both peaks were considered in combination. In addition, the correct rate for stimulation discrimination was higher when RGC population activity was considered as compare to single neuron's activity, and the correct rate was increased with the group size. These results suggest that rate coding, temporal coding, and population coding are all involved in encoding the different stimulus-interval patterns, and the two response peaks in the dual-peak pattern carry complementary information about stimulus interval.

Room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) has gained new momentum as a long-term topic along with the appearance of novel phosphors with versatile application potentials. Compared to traditional RTP materials, innovative pure organic phosphors have become promising alternatives due to their superiority in cost and processibility. However, the development of single -component organic phosphors with ultralong emission lifetimes and simple structures is still ongoing. Despite several kinds of organic phosphors being developed, the ones utilizing arylamine skeletons are barely reported. In this paper, we present a novel family of N,N-diaryl-1,2- benzenediamine phosphors with varying numbers of methyl substituents on terminal phenyl rings based on structural engineering. These molecules exhibited bright phosphorescence in the region of green to yellow light with a remarkably long lifetime up to 684 ms in crystalline states under ambient conditions. Comprehensive experimental and theoretical studies revealed that diverse intermolecular interactions and weak intramolecular hydrogen bonds co -contribute to the long-lived RTP emission. An encryption QR code was constructed, which displayed great potential in anti -counterfeiting applications. This work offered a novel structural motif for ultralong RTP material design and is constructive for material pool expansion.

Micro-buried spiral zone plate in a lithium niobate crystal

We present a micro-buried spiral zone plate (MBSZP) in the lithium niobate crystal fabricated with femtosecond laser direct writing technology. The microstructures of the MBSZP are buried under the surface of the crystal, which ensures the stability of the optical performance in various refractive index environments. The optical performances of imaging and focusing capabilities were demonstrated. In addition, the experiment showed good agreement with simulation results based on the optical wave propagation method. This novel optical element will have important applications in multistate information encoding, optical manipulation, quantum communication, and computation, especially in high integration, contact coupling, and variable refractive index environments. Research on the information transmission based on linear block code and temporal ghost imaging algorithm

In recent years, ghost imaging technology, which uses a barrel detector without spatial resolution to detect and reconstruct object information separately, has become an important research object in the field of quantum optics. In this paper, based on the concrete analysis of ghost imaging algorithm on the basis of information coding and transmission, the information coding transmission is completed by combining the error-checking and error-correcting function of linear block code coding and the precise transmission function of temporal ghost imaging. This paper studied and analyzed the information transmission mechanism based on temporal ghost imaging from three aspects: feasibility, robustness and bit error rate. Based on triangular wave signal information, the simulation and experimental analysis shows that the information coding transmission mechanism improves the difficulty of decoding the code by the attacker, greatly enhances the ability of anti-interference and anti-interception, reduces the bit error rate, realizes the accurate information coding transmission, and solves the problem of the current imaging algorithm which is not feasible and the degree of reduction is not high.

"Acrostic" Encryption: Stress-Manipulation on information Display

Polymers are ideal materials for information printing and storage and encryption through multiple channels. In this study, the visible color, fluorescent, and stress-color are combined to print information. Stress-color is achieved using an acid-tunable dynamic reaction between a beta-diketone and an amine group via the light-induced transformation of spiropyran (SP), which also directly prints the visible color information. The color and fluorescent patterns are stable via the reaction between SP and amine released from a dynamic enaminone structure. By achieving the stress-color information coding, the data is further encrypted in an "acrostic" form by programmatically coding the information at several stages. The pattern or information in stress-color is closely related to the decoding strain, whereas the fluorescent and color patterns display all the information written in various strains. As a result, the secret information is hidden among public data, resulting in acrostic encryption.

Bacterial cell polarity is an internal asymmetric distribution of subcellular components, including proteins, lipids, and other molecules that correlates with the cell ability to sense energy and metabolite sources, chemical signals, quorum signals, toxins, and movement in the desired directions. This ability also plays central role in cell attachment to various surfaces and biofilm formation. Mechanisms and factors controlling formation of this cell internal asymmetry are not completely understood. As a step in this direction, in the present work, we develop an approach for analyzing how information about inorganic substrate can be non-genetically coded inside an individual bacterial cell. As a model system, we use G. sulfurreducens cells attached to an inorganic mineral, mica. The approach utilizes confocal Raman microscopy, Gaussian deconvolution, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and allows for quick label-free identification of the molecular signature of cytochrome intracellular location and the cell to substrate binding down to the level of individual bacterial cells. Our results describe a spectroscopic signature of cell adhesion and how the information about cell adhesion can be coded inside individual bacterial cells.

In this Research Topic, a total of five papers (three research papers and two review papers) are presented in various fields of metamaterials including photoacoustic waves of a fluidic elliptic cylinder, metamaterial characterization from far-field acoustic wave measurements, sensing with sound-enhanced acoustic metamaterials for fault diagnosis, coupled acoustic resonance for wave control and sensing, and spatial information coding with artificially engineered structures for acoustic and elastic wave *** represents an important technology in biomedical imaging and treatment. For example, photoacoustic imaging has been widely used for the human body, including the three-dimensional visualization of vascular systems. To extend the technique for detailing the cross-section changes of blood microvessels, Zhang et al. reported the development of an analytic solution to study the photoacoustic wave generation from a fluidic cylinder based on the cylindrical models in blood vessel photoacoustic imaging. A finite element model is also established to verify the results and to investigate various physics processes. It is found that the angular dependence of photoacoustic power spectra may be used to track the shape changes of the elliptic blood *** resonances are a key component to subwavelength wave control, significant efforts has been devoted to resonant metamaterials for compact systems. In-depth understanding of coupled resonance systems are benefitical for gaining further insights.
