A method of composite coding of a significant microsegment of video frame at the codogram level of its syntax representation in the spectral space has been developed by constructing sequences of code structures of uniform length. The method of composite coding based on filling out redundant codogram sequences has been further developed. The distinctive features of the method are that single code designs are built for the codograms of significant microsegments of the video frame in spectral space using local-positional systems, where: positional-basic component is codogram of significant component of transformation, positional-complementary codogram - codogram lengths of chains zero component of the transformation. This method can be used in addition to JPEG, the modification itself will be an insert after DCT and quantization.

This paper presents the effects of information coding at the pulsating dc link on the performance of the high-frequency-link (HFL) inverter. The asymmetrical duty-cycle phase-shift modulation (resulting in pulse placement) of the front-end of the HFL inverter yields reduced frequency of the pulsating dc link voltage. It also results in reduced total harmonic distortion (THD) of the inverter output current and extended soft-switching range. Soft-switching and lower harmonic losses due to reduced THD yield higher inverter output (better source utilization) and higher efficiency. The enhanced performances are verified by the experiment results and comparisons.

Verbal understanding (sabdabodha) of any utterance requires the knowledge of how words in that utterance are related to each other. Such knowledge is usually available in the form of cognition of grammatical relations. Generative grammars describe how a language codes these relations. Thus the knowledge of what information various grammatical relations convey is available from the generation point of view and not the analysis point of view. In order to develop a parser based on any grammar one should then know precisely the semantic content of the grammatical relations expressed in a language string, the clues for extracting these relations and finally whether these relations are expressed explicitly or implicitly. Based on the design principles that emerge from this knowledge, we model the parser as finding a directed Tree, given a graph with nodes representing the words and edges representing the possible relations between them. Further, we also use the Mimamsa constraint of akanksa (expectancy) to rule out non-solutions and sannidhi (proximity) to prioritize the solutions. We have implemented a parser based on these principles and its performance was found to be satisfactory giving us a confidence to extend its functionality to handle the complex sentences(.1)

Inspired by the parallels between information coding in morphogenesis and information coding in computer communication, we introduce a new model for coupled discrete memoryless channels in which the error probability of one channel depends on the output of the other channel. The model is motivated by a type of cell-cell communication. It is shown that coupling will lead to higher sum capacities with both optimal input distribution and with uniform input distribution under joint coding. Thereby, nature can achieve more than the sum of the individual capacities (synergistic effect). We compare this result with the maximum achievable sum capacity by arbitrary ideal coupling using Majorization theory. Finally, we illustrate the model with applications from wireless communications.

This paper proposes a new coding method that increases significantly the signal-to-watermark ratio in document watermarking algorithms. A possible approach to text document watermarking is to consider text characters as a data structure consisting of several modifiable features such as size, shape, position, luminance, among others. In existing algorithms, these features can be modified sequentially according to bit values to be embedded. In contrast, the solution proposed here uses a positional information coding approach to embed information. Using this approach, the information is related to the position of modified characters, and not to the bit embedded on each character This coding is based on combinatorial analysis and it can embed more bits in comparison to the usual methods, given a distortion constraint. An analysis showing the superior performance of positional coding for this type of application is presented. Experiments validate the analysis and the applicability of the method.

The problem of information transmitting using chaotic signals is considered. New method of information coding by means of frequency modulation of the chaotic signal is proposed. Chaotic generator is modulated by information signal by means of its time scaling. The receiver recovering algorithm, using ideas of Lion's and speed-gradient method, based on the adaptive identification procedure and augmented signals is built up. Robustified adaptation law applicable for noisy transmission channel is presented. The example of signal transmission by means of the frequency modulation of the Chua system is given. The simulation results for signal transmission of the audio frequency range signals are demonstrated.

Three-dimensional plotting of neuronal population response patterns

A computer technique is described for generating threedimensional plots of the distribution of spike activity in neuronal populations. Data obtained from single neurons in the sensorimotor cerebral cortex of cats are used to plot spike density with respect to depth in the cortex and time following a cutaneous stimulus. The computer programs include a masking (hidden line) subroutine and produce a cross-hatched plot showing the rise and fall of neuronal activity in both space and time. By manipulation of the data matrix and by axis rotations, the plot can be viewed from any desired perspective. This method constitutes a powerful technique for analyzing the spatio-temporal response patterns of neuronal populations. The significance of neuronal population responses for encoding stimulus information and predicting behavior is discussed. Driving is a cognitively demanding task which requires high level of driver’s attention. To ensure that the implementation of haptic signals in the IVIS and ADAS will enforce safety, one question that has to be addressed is then, how many different haptic signals can be distinguished by the driver within a reasonable time-bound? And then how can we encode them to ensure the enhanced discriminability and hence the faster choice reaction time? Statistical analysis and comparisons of discriminability performance will be realized in terms of response rate, response time and transmitted information will be done on a different number of haptic signals in a driving simulated environment. © 2016, FISITA. This publication presents a new technique for splitting secret information based on mathematical linguistics methods and allowing sequences of one or several bits to be coded in the way used in DNA cryptography. This solution represents a novel approach allowing DNA substitutions to be generalised and bit blocks of any length to be coded. Apart from extending the capability of coding in DNA cryptography, the technique presented will also make it possible to develop a new type of a hierarchical secret splitting scheme. Such schemes can be employed when developing new types of cryptographic protocols designed for the intelligent splitting and sharing of secrets.

Neuromorphic engineering aims to study and develop, among the others, a new class of systems mimicking key aspects of biological systems, such as spiking (event-driven) information processing and communication, adaptive and learning behavior. Common application domains are sensory and cognitive systems, with a strong relation with the (humanoid) robotic world. Indeed, several neuromorphic sensors, inspired by human senses, have been developed, except tactile ones. Here we fill the gap by presenting a hybrid quasi-digital/neuromorphic architecture for robotic tactile sensors. Quasi-digital sensors share many features with neuromorphic systems, first of all the information encoding in the time domain. They naturally fit into an asynchronous event-driven fully-digital system, but to be fully integrated into neuromorphic applications the right framework and architecture has to be defined. Thanks to this approach, it is possible to seamlessly combine a precise continuously measuring system and a reactive sensory systems, retaining at the same time the advantages of low complexity, low area, low power consumption, distributed, and robust data acquisition systems.
