Construction, theft, and geologic changes has long threatened the safety of power cable operation. However, due to the wide distribution of cables and the complicated operating environment, there is currently a lack of effective monitoring for early warning. This paper reports a wireless distributedsensor for monitoring cable external disturbance. Its data processing, low-power power management, energy acquisition unit, and Internet of Things communication methods are described in details;Based on that, the cable vibration test under typical external force excitation are carried out. The time-domain and time-frequency characteristics of the cable vibration signal are obtained and employed as characteristic parameters for external disturbance identification, which are the basis of an intelligent early-warning system for cable antibreakage.
