Agriculture is a pillar for economic growth in Indonesia. It drives the needs of agricultural information and knowledge increase. In order to provide information for farmers and knowledge to support the decision-making process in strategic level, the conceptual modeling for the intelligent knowledge-based system in agriculture is proposed. The conceptual model combines the geo-fencing technique to ensure the availability of information for farmers and machine learning to provide the knowledge for the strategic decision-making process in order to improve agricultural sector performance.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF A HEURISTIC FUZZY RULE-based CONTROLLER TO THE DYNAMIC CONTROL OF A ROBOT ARM

The paper reports results of the practical application of the self-organising controller to the simultaneous control of two interacting joints of a robot. The rationale for its use and the architecture of this heuristic fuzzy rule-based dynamic control approach are outlined. This shows it to be a relatively simple intelligent knowledge-based system capable of both learning and displaying a variable nonlinear input/output relationship. In both step response and tracking experiments the self-organising controller was found to perform better than a conventional PID controller under similar circumstances, although some tuning was required for the former system.

An intelligent knowledge-based system (IKBS) for evaluating electrochemical machining, in a concurrent engineering (CE) environment and based on object oriented techniques, is introduced. The design specification is acquired through a feature-based approach. Ten different classes of design features are interactively obtained. The attributes of 72 workpiece material types, eight tool-electrode metals, two electrolyte solutions, and seven different sizes and types of electrochemical machines are stored in a database. For each design feature, information needed in manufacturing, such as the machining cycle time and cost, penetration rate, efficiency and effectiveness, costs for electricity consumed, machine installation and depreciation are estimated. Finally, for the same design specification, machining times are compared and ordered, for alternative unconventional processes of electrochemical, electrodischarge and electrochemical are machining.

Design Requirements for a User-Friendly Computer-Aided Decision Support system in Laboratory Medicine

The design requirements for a user-friendly computer-aided decision support system in laboratory medicine are considered. Central to the effectiveness of such a system is the incorporation of control system models of the relevant physiological dynamics. Interface requirements of the design include those between: clinical expert and knowledge base in order to establish an appropriate clinical rule-base; rule-base and control system models; these models and the clinical user; and clinical user and the IKBS. These design requirements for effective use of information derived from laboratory data in patient care are illustrated by reference to fluid/electrolyte, acid-base balance and thyroid disease.

Presenting relevant information via web-based user friendly interfaces makes the information more accessible to the general public. This is especially useful for sensor networks that monitor natural environments. Adequately communicating this type of information helps increase awareness about the limited availability of natural resources and promotes their better use with sustainable practices. In this paper, I suggest an approach to communicating this information to wide audiences based on simulating data journalism using artificial intelligence techniques. I analyze this approach by describing a pioneer knowledge-based system called VSAIH, which looks for news in hydrological data from a national sensor network in Spain and creates news stories that general users can understand. VSAIH integrates artificial intelligence techniques, including a model-based data analyzer and a presentation planner. In the paper, I also describe characteristics of the hydrological national sensor network and the technical solutions applied by VSAIH to simulate data journalism.

Emission Reduction for a Small Gasoline Engine Using Fuzzy Control

This paper describes a cost-effective fuzzy control system applied to a small spark-ignition internal-combustion engine to achieve regulation of the fuel injection system. It determines the amount of fuel required from a fuzzy algorithm using engine speed and manifold air pressure as input values. The fuzzy control parameters were a collection of comprehensible rules and fuzzy-set membership functions. This facilitated the calibration process, leading to quick and convenient tuning. Experimental results show that a considerable improvement in fuel regulation was achieved compared to the original carburettor-based engine configuration. In addition measurements of HC and CO emissions show a corresponding reduction.

The fault diagnosis is important in continuously monitoring the performance and quality of manufacturing processes. Overcoming the drawbacks of threshold approach, artificial neural network may extract the symptom of the faults through learning from the samples, but it is difficult to design its structure. Moreover, it needs a large numbers of samples in practice. In this paper, support vector machine approach was proposed to overcome these limitations based on statistics learning theory, and a new fault diagnosis system is developed. The experimental results showed that it is an efficient and practical on-line intelligent monitoring system for the stamping processes.
