The paper presents an integrated approach for automated semanticweb service composition using AI planning techniques. An important advantage of this approach is that the composition process, as well as the discovery of the atomic services that take part in the composition, are significantly facilitated by the incorporation of semantic information. OWL-S web service descriptions are transformed into a planning problem described in a standardized fashion using PDDL, while semantic information is used for the enhancement of the composition process as well as for approximating the optimal composite service when exact solutions are not found. Solving, visualization, manipulation, and evaluation of the produced composite services are accomplished, while, unlike other systems, independence from specific planners is maintained. Implementation was performed through the development and integration of two software systems, namely PORSCE II and VLEPPO. PORSCE II is responsible for the transformation process, semantic enhancement, and management of the results. VLEPPO is a general-purpose planning system used to automatically acquire solutions for the problem by invoking external planners. A case study is also presented to demonstrate the functionality, performance, and potential of the approach.

The reusability in learning objects has always been a hot issue. However, we believe that current approaches to e-Learning failed to find a satisfying answer to this concern. This paper presents an approach that enables capitalization of existing learning resources by first creating "content metaclata" through text mining and natural language processing and second by creating dynamically learning knowledge objects, i.e., active, adaptable, reusable, and independent learning objects. The proposed model also suggests integrating explicitly instructional theories in an on-the-fly composition process of learning objects. 'semanticweb technologies are used to satisfy such an objective by creating an ontology-based organizational memory able to act as a knowledge base for multiple training environments.

Managing virtualized services efficiently over the cloud is an open challenge. Traditional models of software development are not appropriate for the cloud computing domain, where software (and other) services are acquired on demand. In this paper, we describe a new integrated methodology for the life cycle of IT services delivered on the cloud and demonstrate how it can be used to represent and reason about services and service requirements and so automate service acquisition and consumption from the cloud. We have divided the IT service life cycle into five phases of requirements, discovery, negotiation, composition, and consumption. We detail each phase and describe the ontologies that we have developed to represent the concepts and relationships for each phase. To show how this life cycle can automate the usage of cloud services, we describe a cloud storage prototype that we have developed. This methodology complements previous work on ontologies for service descriptions in that it is focused on supporting negotiation for the particulars of a service and going beyond simple matchmaking.

The present paper describes the main characteristics and components of a tool developed for integrating the definition of profiles for semanticwebservices. This tool is based on the languages DAML-S and OWL-S. It includes the ontology visualization and consistency verification which specifies the concepts that a web Service interacts with. Starting from a service description interpreted by a computer and by the means used for accessing the service, it is possible to discover which software agents use the service. The tool can generate information in different formats to represent graphic information based on XML, such as the SVG format proposed by the W3C. The tool was developed in Java language. It is being used for the visualization of ontologies and for the semantic description of services in traffic information systems. The LISITT group ( Laboratorio Integrado de Sistemas Inteligentes y Tecnologias de la informacion de Trafico) developed this tool at the Robotics Institute at the University of Valencia.

The EU-projects OASIS Archive and GAMA aimed to develop systems for the common presentation of distributed Media Art works, independent of their location. The paper presents the technical solutions implemented during projects, and contextualise the work in the related media art scene. In order to ensure the preservation and availability (sustainability) of cultural heritage, the metadata systems of all participating institutions were interlinked and they can now be accessed by individual users (both researchers and general public) through an on-line interface. The developed multimedia archive servers enable the exchange of metadata within a distributed system and enable various play-out sources and media. The decentralised architecture, where data can remain at their physical location and are linked at the metadata level, is the key concept of the presented system.

Enabling everybody to access content in a very simple and user friendly way becomes an increasingly important topic as content availability still increases exponentially. In this paper we will first address the problem of content annotation. The core part of the paper is a description of the LISy system which analyses TV content and allows the user to access it using a natural language dialogue system.
