Massive image processing systems, such as large scale remote sensing image storage and processing systems, require huge storage capacity as well as low latency for image interpretation. However, state-of-the-art remote sensing image processing systems face challenges including performance constraints and data security and privacy concerns. Therefore, the picture archiving and communication systems must provide the ability in aspects of transmission speed, storage capacity, security authentication and authorization. This paper proposes the Hopacs framework for imaging storage and processing based on edge computing and interplanetary file system. Hopacs outperforms the current picture archiving and communication systems in terms of wider range of full image format support. Moreover, Hopacs utilizes peer to peer file storage and transmission to achieve higher speed transmission, and the speedup of file transmission can scale well then the server numbers of the remote sensing image storage and processing systems increase.

The pervasive issue of degree fraud poses a signif-icant challenge to the credibility of academic credentials, neces-sitating innovative solutions to ensure the integrity of diploma verification processes. This paper proposes an integrated solution leveraging Blockchain, interplanetary file system (IPFS), and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption technologies to establish a secure and transparent diploma management system. IPFS offers a decentralized approach to file storage and distribution, eliminating reliance on centralized authorities and enhancing data availability and accessibility. Similarly, Blockchain technology provides a tamper-resistant ledger for storing diploma data, ensuring transparency and immutability through distributed consensus mechanisms. Ethereum, with its smart contract functionality, facilitates the automation of trans-actional processes, further enhancing the system's efficiency and reliability, finally, AES ensures the confidentiality of certificate contents through strong encryption, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive information. The loading process for university diplomas involves encrypting PDF files with AES encryption, uploading them to the IPFS cluster, and recording their unique hash values on the Ethereum blockchain. Subsequently, the verification process requires accurate specification of both the file and transaction hash values, ensuring the authenticity of diplomas through blockchain-based verification. The implemen-tation of the proposed system demonstrates its efficacy in securely uploading and verifying diplomas, utilizing technologies such as MetaMask for Ethereum authentication and AES encryption for data confidentiality. By ensuring the integrity and authenticity of diplomas, the system mitigates the risk of fraud and upholds the integrity of educational qualifications.

In addressing the significant challenges caused by the expansion of data storage needs in blockchain systems, this paper explores the integration of the interplanetary file system (IPFS) with Substrate-based blockchain. By leveraging IPFS for off-chain storage and Substrate for on-chain operations, this system addresses the key challenges such as bloated storage, inefficiency, and accessibility while preserving data distribution and privacy. Through a comparative analysis with an Ethereum-based system, this study reveals significant advantages of the Substrate-IPFS solution. There is a significant reduction in data storage size and faster block confirmation times, leading to potentially lower transaction costs. The proposed approach enhances data privacy through the use of the Blake2 hashing algorithm. Overall, this research showcases the potential of Substrate-IPFS integration in overcoming the limitations of traditional blockchain storage approaches. Further exploration into the storage cost optimisation within the Substrate framework and additional functionalities using modular pallets could pave the way for significant advancements in the distributed data storage.

The interplanetary file system (IPFS) is on its way to becoming the backbone of the next generation of the web. However, it suffers from several performance bottlenecks, particularly on the content retrieval path, which are often difficult to debug. This is because content retrieval involves multiple peers on the decentralized network and the issue could lie anywhere in the network. Traditional debugging tools are insufficient to help web developers who face the challenge of slow loading websites and detrimental user experience. This limits the adoption and future scalability of IPFS. In this paper, we aim to gain valuable insights into how content retrieval requests propagate within the IPFS network as well as identify potential performance bottlenecks which could lead to opportunities for improvement. We propose a custom tracing framework that generates and manages traces for crucial events that take place on each peer during content retrieval. The framework leverages event semantics to build a timeline of each protocol involved in the retrieval, helping developers pinpoint problems. Additionally, it is resilient to malicious behaviors of the peers in the decentralized environment. We have implemented this framework on top of an existing IPFS implementation written in Java called Nabu. Our evaluation shows that the framework can identify network delays and issues with each peer involved in content retrieval requests at a very low overhead.

Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is a medical condition characterized by a blockage at the junction between the ureter and the kidney, leading to impaired urine flow and increased fluid pressure. If left untreated, UPJO can progress to hydronephrosis and potentially result in irreversible kidney damage. This paper presents a novel system for the early detection and severity grading of UPJO using Deep Learning Computer-Aided Diagnosis (DL-CAD) techniques. The proposed approach leverages ultrasound imaging as a primary diagnostic tool, noted for its cost-effectiveness, absence of radiation, and non-invasive nature. To enhance the security and integrity of medical data transmission, we integrate blockchain technology into our framework. Our solution combines a DL- CAD model featuring an attention-based pyramid semantic segmentation network with a discrete wavelet transformation- processed residual classification network. An IoT device is employed to detect patient abnormalities and transmit this data to the diagnosis model via an interplanetary file system (IPFS). This decentralized storage solution facilitates secure data management across a peer-to-peer network. Ultimately, the proposed framework not only identifies the presence of UPJO but also assesses its severity, ensuring that patient data remains protected throughout the diagnostic process.

The Healthcare industry demands increased privacy and security to protect confidential patient information and comply with regulations. Both these features can be incorporated into the existing systems using Blockchain technology. The only challenge faced here is the ease of users, but this can be quickly resolved by integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain. IoT-based devices overcome limited computing capacity for personal intelligent health devices. Cloud-assisted IoT devices also require limited storage capacity for devices like wearable sensors. However, it must be considered that this system still has drawbacks, leading to its inefficiency. These problems include Data Privacy and Data sharing. This paper proposes an interplanetary file system (IPFS) based solution to these problems. Here, the users continually upload the health data collected by IoT devices and add them to blockchain transactions that the other user nodes, such as physicians, pharmacists, insurance companies, hospital authorities, etc., can access. This system ensures the well-being of the users by monitoring the data gathered every 5 min and daily. It also facilitates the alarm feature in an emergency, making it reliable. The user receives daily notifications regarding his lifestyle, and the family members receive the notifications on his behalf if there are some chances of an emergency. The authorized doctors are also notified immediately in case an emergency is detected. Apart from this feature, the user can get consultations from doctors, prescriptions from the pharmacist, funds from insurance authorities, and hospital supplies, all through the transaction on the six blockchains of HealthDote using the cryptocurrency DoteCoins, which are designed specifically for this system. © 2023 The Author(s)

The prevalence of fake educational credentials poses a threat to the meritocratic nature of the education system and job markets. Verification of certificates to combat forgery has been a challenging endeavor due to the weaknesses of the current methods. Blockchain, capitalizing on its unique attributes, can provide an optimal solution to certification and verification problems by ensuring disintermediation, immutability, tamper-proof, efficiency, and security. Efforts to explore its potential in addressing these problems continue to gain momentum. However, the existing blockchain-based initiatives do not offer a holistic solution to the forgery problem, as they solely focus on a single education level or institution. Furthermore, these initiatives lack the essential features required to fully address this problem. This paper proposes a comprehensive blockchain-enabled system for issuing certificates from different educational levels and institutions in the country, providing a one-stop center for verifiers, such as employers, to verify all certificates a candidate possesses. As a proof of concept, a decentralized application (DApp), ElimuChain, has been developed, utilizing smart contracts and the interplanetary file system (IPFS). The system is deployed on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) blockchain to evaluate its applicability in addressing the problem in the Tanzanian context. The results demonstrate that the proposed solution successfully manages the certification and verification process, and it is cost-effective, scalable, and efficient. Moreover, its performance was compared with the previous solutions in terms of latency and throughput. The comparison results show that it performs better than the counterpart for transactional operations.

The Internet of Things (IoT) system gathers data through diverse smart devices and sensors to make thorough decisions tailored to specific needs. Yet, in intricate IoT setups, privacy infringement occurs through various means like data collection, initial data handling, and data sharing. Therefore, the concealment of data during transmission should receive sufficient attention. The communication approach that merges blockchain technology with covert communication has shown progress in addressing the aforementioned issues. However, this integration has also led to challenges, such as low-data embedding rates and distinctive features in blockchain transactions containing covert data. To seek a solution with high-embedding rates that do not make generated transactions stand out distinctly, this article analyzes the Ethereum transaction field formats, identifies the input data field with high concealment and large capacity as the embedding target, then proposes a data covert transmission scheme based on hybrid embedding in contract fields. This scheme utilizes LSB steganography to embed high-capacity covert data in images, and embeds the URL of the image into the input data field of the Ethereum smart contract transaction, thereby increasing the embedding rates. Subsequently, to further enhance the concealment of this scheme, a data embedding method based on contract relationships is proposed. Through this technique, for the first time, covert data transmission is achieved solely through the invocation relationships of smart contracts within the blockchain covert communication environment, instead of directly embedding covert data into transactions. This method results in transactions that are theoretically indistinguishable from regular transactions, greatly enhancing the security of the scheme. Recent technological advances have enabled researchers to investigate various novel approaches utilized to manage allograft transplants and overcome the challenges of conventional centralized systems. The rising need for transparency, efficiency, and, especially, security in this highly sensitive medical procedure necessitates the use of decentralized solutions like blockchain rather than existing centralized approaches. However, the current state of research is theoretical and unproven, and allograft management lacks any reliable, cost-effective, or data-proven solution. In this paper, we propose an Ethereum blockchain-based allograft transplantation management system that can address all of those issues linked to the existing solutions. The proposed approach aims to enhance traceability, transparency, and data provenance across the entire allograft transplant process. We present six reliable and cost-efficient algorithms, as well as a comprehensive system architecture, to provide valuable insight into system implementation complexity. We have designed an efficient smart contract implementing the proposed algorithms to ensure flawless execution of allograft donation, transportation, and transplantation. We conduct thorough tests, validation, security, cost, throughput, and latency assessments of the system in order to contrast its effectiveness with existing solutions and results shows that our solution is cost-effective, as well as secure and efficient. We generalized the proposed solution so that, with minimal changes, it could be used for other problems and addressed some of the technical and ethical challenges.

A blockchain and IPFS-Aided anonymous traitor tracing scheme based on puncturable encryption in Industrial Internet of Things

The development of intelligent industrial Internet of Things has improved production efficiency, but at the same time, it has also put forward higher requirements for security protection. When data is shared between IoT devices, many systems use attribute-based encryption primitives to encrypt the data and upload it to the cloud. However, ABE will have the problem that it is difficult for a single user to revoke, the attribute will be leaked, and the privacy of users with the same attribute will also be leaked. In addition, the amount of data in IIoT is huge, and there will be bottlenecks in data storage. In this paper, we propose a blockchain and IPFSassisted puncturable-based anonymous traitor tracing scheme on the IIoT. The combination of blockchain and IPFS solves the problem of data storage, realizes the scalability of storage, the anonymity protects the privacy of users, and the puncturable encryption provides the dynamic revocation of users without affecting the normal decryption of this system by other users. Combined with traitor tracing technology, the malicious user who leaked the private key can be traced, and the user who leaked the data can be traced through the data access records on the blockchain, Security analysis shows that the scheme has IND-CPA security, Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that this scheme is superior to other schemes.
