The purpose of this paper is to provide a multifacetted approach to interactive analysis and modeling of time series, signals, and dynamical data sets. The models use statistical regression analysis and are built in an incremental way from a set of simple functional units. The analysis is supported by data visualization and on-line adaptive tutorials accessed on the World Wide Web. This work extends our results obtained for the Landsat-5 and Landsat-7 calibration data. The another objective is to educate the user about available mathematical models and also to allow the user to build those models interactively through applets prepared by the authors on a Web server. These models may be constructed for the user's own data set. The approach is illustrated using the calibration data sets for the Landsat sensors, we also discuss agent communication framework of regression models and calibration data. However, the same integrated approach can be used for other data domains. This type of approach is consistent with other recent activities regarding semantic web.

Universities are facing many challenges with growing student numbers and a need to modify the traditional lecture and tutorial-based face-to-face pedagogical style both for students who work full-time while studying and for international students who may have language difficulties. To address these challenges, a flipped classroom pedagogical model was trialled in a second-year module in a Construction Management undergraduate degree program. The model consisted of preclass online quizzes, in-class face-to-face lectures, group tasks, active learning spaces, adaptive online tutorials and a case-based assessment. Evaluation findings suggest that preclass activities are an important feature of a flipped classroom to actively engage students in independent learning and to help them construct their own knowledge. Findings also highlight the significance of physical space to facilitate collaboration and interactions between students, improve their learning experience, and inspire students to learn in an active environment. The findings have implications for both educational developers and academics to support the development of open, online, and blended learning courses and to deploy, implement, and evaluate higher education courses.

B-Course is a free web-based online data analysis tool, which allows the users to analyze their data for multivariate probabilistic dependencies. These dependencies are represented as Bayesian network models. In addition to this, B-Course also offers facilities for inferring certain type of causal dependencies from the data. The software uses a novel "tutorial stylerdquo; user-friendly interface which intertwines the steps in the data analysis with support material that gives an informal introduction to the Bayesian approach adopted. Although the analysis methods, modeling assumptions and restrictions are totally transparent to the user, this transparency is not achieved at the expense of analysis power: with the restrictions stated in the support material, B-Course is a powerful analysis tool exploiting several theoretically elaborate results developed recently in the fields of Bayesian and causal modeling. B-Course can be used with most web-browsers (even Lynx), and the facilities include features such as automatic missing data handling and discretization, a flexible graphical interface for probabilistic inference on the constructed Bayesian network models (for Java enabled browsers), automatic prettyHyphen;printed layout for the networks, exportation of the models, and analysis of the importance of the derived dependencies. In this paper we discuss both the theoretical design principles underlying the B-Course tool, and the pragmatic methods adopted in the implementation of the software.

In a few short years, the Internet (in terms of the World Wide Web) has become a powerful informational resource for the original scientific literature pertaining to biological investigations using the laser scanning confocal microscope. However, there still remains an obvious void in the development of educational Web sites targeted at beginning students and novices in the field. Furthermore, many of the commercial aftermarket manufacturers (for example, those offering live-cell imaging chambers) have Web sites that are not adequately represented in published compilations, and are therefore somewhat difficult to locate. In order to address this issue, several educational sites dedicated to optical microscopy and digital imaging that are being constructed and hosted at The Florida State University are currently turning their attention to the increasing application of confocal microscopy in the biological and materials sciences. The primary focus of this effort is to create new sections on the existing sites that address the important educational issues in confocal microscopy, as well as creating indices of links to both the confocal scientific literature and the Web sites of manufacturers who supply useful accessories. less

This paper describes an online laboratory for a course on electronic devices and circuits aimed at complementing classroom teaching of undergraduate courses. The development is based on four levels of teaching, viz., lecture notes, interactive tutorials, simulation exercises, and performing a real experiment remotely. The current facility has been developed to support an undergraduate theory course, "Electronic Devices and Circuits" as a pre-laboratory session for a regular on-site laboratory. It can be also used as an alternative to a traditional laboratory especially for distance education programs, or for interdisciplinary first year courses not having lab component. The facility has also been developed as a teaching tool for classroom demonstrations.

MyPyTutor is an interactive tutorial system for the Python programming language. The system provides support for both students doing tutorial problems and tutorial developers. MyPyTutor can be used in two modes: stand-alone or with online support. For courses where MyPyTutor is used for assessment it can be set up so that students submit correct solutions to problems online for marks.

Subtitles and captions have been used to aid second language learning. This study focuses on the effects of subtitles and captions on English Language Learners' ability to learn information literacy skills and apply those skills using an interactive tutorial. Three groups of Turkish university students majoring in English Language and Literature completed a tutorial on ACRUs Framework scholarly conversations. One group completed the tutorial with an English soundtrack and no titling;the second group completed the tutorial with an English soundtrack and English captions;and the third group completed the tutorial with an English soundtrack and Turkish subtitles. Using Morae software, the students were recorded and evaluated for time-on-task and correct completion of the interactive practice elements. The group that viewed the tutorial with an English soundtrack and Turkish subtitles completed tasks at a statistically significant faster pace than other groups and with statistically significant more success.
