as a prerequisite for EMI (English as Medium of Instruction) specialized courses, ESP (English for Specific Purposes) is supposed to help the engineering students learn the academic vocabulary and terms, discuss the related topics, and improve their research skills. Besides, comparing to the EMI specialized courses in which the teachers usually have pressure to cover a lot of academic contents, ESP might be the most suitable course for Chinese engineering students to improve the interacting and presenting skills in English. Nowadays, WeChat is the most popular social app in China. WeChat public platform provides an efficient way to share and spread information. In order to enhance the teaching effect and the student engagement, two WeChat-based interactivetools, Rain classroom and Formtalk, were adopted in the ESP classroom for 40 electronic engineering students. The students' feedbacks were also collected by the interactivetools before, during and after the lectures. The purpose of this paper is to describe the methods and share the experiences.

Abstract teaching an introductory course on control systems to undergraduate students often seeks elaborations on real engineering world control system applications to assist students in grasping theoretical concepts. In this paper, the newly developed animated and interactive control systems tutorials are presented. The paper shows that this teaching approach helps students in bridging the gap between the classical control techniques and the real world applications. The course evaluations undertaken since the time of the inclusion of the animated tutorials into the teaching process clearly show the learning improvement gained, reflected in increased average scores, and reduced course fail grade.

Mastery of basic syntactic and logical constructs is an essential part of learning to program. Unfortunately, practice exercises for programming basics can be very tedious, making it difficult to motivate students. In this paper we describe Parson's Programming Puzzles, an automated, interactive tool that provides practice with basic programming principles in an entertaining puzzle-like format. Careful design of the items in the puzzles allows the tutor to highlight particular topics and common programming errors. Since each puzzle solution is a complete sample of well-written code, use of the tool exposes students to good programming practice. This paper discusses the motivation of Parson's Programming Puzzles, and gives several examples. We describe the web-based authoring tool used to build the puzzles, and present our plans for future development.

The article discusses the pedagogic advantages of structural analysis software based on nonlinear dynamic structural theory, in contrast to software most commonly used in architectural education which is based in linear static theory. Traditionally, structural education in both architecture and engineering has considered nonlinear dynamic theory to be an advanced-level tool, reserved for graduate level engineering study. The article illustrates that with an appropriate interactive interface, nonlinear dynamics can support on-screen structural models that are far more physically intuitive. The article includes examples of student work from a first course in structural design.
