We present sufficient conditions for the existence of a single stable controller to stabilize a set of n SISO plants: P-1, P-2,..., P-n (strong simultaneous stabilization). As is well known, this is equivalent to the existence of a single controller, not necessarily stable, to stabilize n+1 plants (simultaneous stabilization). The basic assumption required in this paper is that all the plants have the same unstable zeros. A practical example of where such an assumption holds is when each plant has the same pure delay, which is approximated by a non-minimum-phase rational function. The fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm used in harmonic analysis is first studied. Then, two modified FFT algorithms - LFFT based on linear interpolation method and PFFT based on parabolic interpolation method are derived. Typical examples show that both the LEFT and PFFT clearly increase analysis precision, and reduce the demand to sampling frequency thus greatly enhance computing speed. These two algorithms have been successfully applied in harmonic analysis of power system.

It is conjectured by Dorato et al. [Automatica, 25, 427-430 (1989)], that the algorithm given by them for interpolation with units in H-infinity, gives the lowest possible degree unit. An interpolation algorithm for finite-duration real sequences using the discrete Fourier transform is presented. The proposed method is shown to result in a significant saving of computational labour over the discrete version of the time-domain classical interpolation formula. Estimation of inbetween samples for large sequences is possible within a mean square error of 0.00114 with this method. Some considerations with regard to the computation of FFTs are also discussed.
