Application of IgH EtherCAT Master for Ultra-Precision Motion Control of Precision Axes

The EtherCAT fieldbus system is widely applied in different types of computerized numerical control (CNC) machine tools due to its outstanding communication performance. In the field of ultra-precision CNC, some machine tools employ controllers that integrate EtherCAT master functionality to achieve real-time communication with other devices;however, the open-source IgH EtherCAT master has rarely been applied to the CNC systems of ultra-precision machine tools. The feasibility of using the IgH EtherCAT master to meet the communication performance requirements of ultra-precision machine tools remains uncertain;therefore, it is necessary to validate the control effect on precision axes under the application of the IgH EtherCAT master. In this work, EtherCAT applications were developed on a personal computer (PC) to alter it to a bus-type controller with the IgH EtherCAT master function. To provide the EtherCAT master with real-time and accurate motion data of the axes, an interpolation algorithm tailored for control experiments was designed, and a G-code data processing method was proposed. Moreover, precision aerostatic linear axes and servo drivers were chosen as EtherCAT slaves for single-axis motion and dual-axis linkage control experiments. The experimental results showed that the motion controller based on IgH can effectively control the precision axes to execute ultra-precision linear and circular interpolation motion.

Featured Application The real-time and accurate acquisition of the thermal field is crucial for the temperature control of concrete dams. The optimization method including interpolation algorithm selection, the monitoring point number, and position analysis can effectively improve the efficiency of thermal field reconstruction. Lightweight application procedures can achieve a good balance of accuracy and efficiency and are used to guide temperature control *** In an actual concrete dam construction, the efficiency of thermal field reconstruction directly affects the timeliness of temperature control measures. Therefore, using lightweight methods to obtain real-time, accurate thermal fields is crucial for concrete temperature control. To balance both accuracy and efficiency, this study proposes an optimization method for thermal field reconstruction in concrete dams. The method consists of three components: evaluating interpolation algorithms, optimizing the number of monitoring points, and analyzing their positions. Specifically, a distributed temperature sensing system is employed for concrete monitoring, with a "Z-shaped" optical fiber layout. Three interpolation algorithms-Kriging, Natural Neighbor, and Inverse Distance Weighting-are quantitatively evaluated, with Kriging showing the highest accuracy. Sensitivity analysis, combined with the control variable method, is used to assess the impact of the monitoring point number and position. Lightweight application procedures are then proposed, using reconstructed thermal field results to guide strategy formulation and parameter adjustment for the intelligent cooling control system. A case study demonstrates that this method ensures the effectiveness and timeliness of concrete temperature control measures. The proposed approach enables real-time updates of concrete temperature control measures in sync with the progress of the pouring process, providing a valuable reference for similar projects.

Multiplanar reconstruction with incomplete data via enhanced fuzzy radial basis function neural networks

Slice images based on a single slicing direction often contain incomplete data and cannot be used by clinicians for diagnosis or observation. It is thus necessary to reconstruct the slices using multiplanar reconstruction technology. In the case of complete data, it is not difficult to obtain a series of clear images from other slicing directions. In the case of incomplete data, interpolation methods are commonly employed on reconstructed images to compensate for the missing information. However, such results are often not ideal. In this study, we propose a new method based on an enhanced fuzzy radial basis function neural network. First, a series of incomplete transverse section images that have been accurately registered are adopted. Then, we superpose the sequence images to obtain the three-dimensional data volume. Thereafter, we can acquire the coronal or sagittal images by reformatting this data volume. For a reconstructed image, the proposed system was applied to compensate for the lost data. We used 15 sets of proposed neural networks to obtain 15 sets of output data, with the final output data acquired via the inverse distance-weighted algorithm. We trained the system via a gravitational search algorithm. Finally, we repaired all the interpolated data. In this experiment, we used two types of datasets, i.e., images obtained via brain magnetic resonance imaging and abdominal computed tomography. Subjective observations and objective evaluations confirm the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method compared to other state-of-the-art methods. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. A Frequency Adaptive Data Collection Method for Internet of Things Nodes

The aim of this paper is to solve the problem of a large amount of redundant data in the process of large-scale acquisition of Internet of Things sensors. This paper proposes a frequency adaptive data sensing method based on revolving gate algorithm for STM32 power safety data acquisition system. The method realizes the intelligent control of current protection terminal through three-stage current protection algorithm and frequency adaptive data acquisition algorithm. First, the three-stage current protection algorithm is used to protect the circuit, which can trip quickly in case of overload, and reduce the peak current caused by some equipment when starting up, so as to avoid damage to the equipment. Second, the arithmetic mean of each statistic is compared with the last value reported to the server. If the absolute value of the difference between the two exceeds the specified threshold range, the reported value is updated. Otherwise, it is filtered out, and the data smoothness is calculated according to the rules. The data collection interval is dynamically adjusted according to the data smoothness, which can greatly reduce the collection of redundant data and the traffic consumption of Internet of Things devices. On the server side, the inverse algorithm is used for interpolation and reconstruction to recover the collected data. This method is applied to the developed electricity safety equipment, and the electricity consumption is monitored and collected continuously for 24 h. After filtering by the frequency adaptive algorithm, only 108 pieces of data records are reported for 28,713 pieces of original data, and the compression ratio reaches 99.49%. Compared with other data collection strategies, this method significantly reduces the amount of redundant data collection and the energy consumption of terminal nodes. Research on continuous ultrasonic source localization of composite structures by frequency domain characteristics indexing

The continuous ultrasonic signal is a common acoustic phenomenon, and composite structures pose difficulties for traditional acoustic localization methods due to their anisotropy. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a minimum error indexing method based on frequency domain characteristic vectors. The method acquires signals through distributed sensors on a divided grid structure in advance, constitutes characteristic vectors, and generates an indexing matrix. When a new ultrasonic source occurs at an unknown location, the characteristic vector is formed by the same method and matched with the indexing matrix for ultrasonic source localization. This method is well adapted to complex structures like composite materials. The method was verified by 50 sets of localization experiments for chirp and white noise signals, The results show that the average error is 4.92 cm and 6.27 cm. It provides an idea for structure health monitor of composite materials in the future.

A Background Jitter Calibration for ADCs Using TDC Phase Information From ADPLL

The phase noise, commonly known as jitter, in Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs) is conventionally perceived as a stochastic process, necessitating a degree of tolerance in downstream circuits such as Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs). This paper addresses this issue within the context of a Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC)-based All-Digital Phase-Locked Loop (ADPLL) responsible for generating the sampling clock for ADCs. The ADPLL uses a low-quality, high-noise oscillator while remaining area- and power-efficient. Any jitter introduced in the ADPLL's clock signal directly causes non-uniform sampling by the ADC. We propose a background all-digital algorithm to address this challenge. The least-square jitter estimation algorithm uses the TDC phase information to detect instantaneous sampling error and a Taylor-based correction is used to perform ADC post-correction. We evaluate the efficacy of these algorithms through extensive simulations, considering a realistic system setup. The overarching system performance is quantified using SNDR as the primary performance metric, demonstrating enhancements of up to 33 dB across the designated operational frequency range when contrasted with uncorrected ADC outputs.

Machine-Learning-Enabled Design and Manipulation of a Microfluidic Concentration Gradient Generator

Microfluidics concentration gradient generators have been widely applied in chemical and biological fields. However, the current gradient generators still have some limitations. In this work, we presented a microfluidic concentration gradient generator with its corresponding manipulation process to generate an arbitrary concentration gradient. Machine-learning techniques and interpolation algorithms were implemented to help researchers instantly analyze the current concentration profile of the gradient generator with different inlet configurations. The proposed method has a 93.71% accuracy rate with a 300x acceleration effect compared to the conventional finite element analysis. In addition, our method shows the potential application of the design automation and computer-aided design of microfluidics by leveraging both artificial neural networks and computer science algorithms.

The test data visualization is very useful to study the train aerodynamics. In this paper, a new data interpolation method that combines a data field quadrilateral grid and region transformation based on the isoparametric transformation is proposed, because the data field of train aerodynamics test is the scattered data field based on curved surface. And the scanning algorithm is improved to overcome the defect of traditional algorithm, whose convergence is not ensured. In order to be able to expand the test data visualization system, the object-oriented approach is applied to the program. Finally, the test data visualization system is realized and tested, then the program is improved in practice.

Optimization of a Simulated Well Cluster using Surrogate Models

In this paper we present an implementation of a partly Derivative-Free Optimization (DFO) algorithm for production optimization of a simulated multi-phase flow network. The network consists of well and pipeline simulators, considered to be black-box models without available gradients. The algorithm utilizes local approximations as surrogate models for the complex simulators. A Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem is built from the surrogate models and the known structure of the flow network. The core of the algorithm is IBM's MINLP solver Bonmin, which is run iteratively to solve optimization problems cast in terms of surrogate models. At each iteration the surrogate models are updated to fit local data points from the simulators. The algorithm is tested on an artificial subsea network modeled in FlowManager ™ , a multi-phase flow simulator from FMC Technologies. The results for this special case show that the algorithm converges to a point where the surrogate models fit the simulator, and they both share the optimum.

This article introduces the high-speed data acquisition system based on ADS930, proposes the interpolation algorithm aims to improve test accuracy in signal processing. It describes the method of filter smoothing to remove interference. Results illustrate the technique is correct and practical.
