The application of inverse patterns to fast and robust mirror surface evaluation is shown. In a well controlled environment, one observes via the mirror surface a screen onto which a well-defined pattern is displayed. Evaluation of the deflected pattern is used to determine surface defects of the object under test. In some cases it is possible to calculate inverse patterns in advance, in which the surface topography is given implicitly. Using these inverse patterns results in bottom-of-the-range and fast surface examination, which is a benefit compared to the commonly used deflectometric methods.

This paper considers the use of machine learning for diagnosis of diseases that is based on the analysis of a complete gene expression profile. This distinguishes our study from other approaches that require a preliminary step of finding a limited number of relevant genes (tens or hundreds of genes). We conducted experiments with complete genetic expression profiles (20 531 genes) that we obtained after processing transcriptomes of 801 patients with known oncologic diagnoses (oncology of the lung, kidneys, breast, prostate, and colon). Using the indextron (instant learning index system) for a new purpose, i.e., for complete expression profile processing, provided diagnostic accuracy that is 99.75% in agreement with the results of histological verification.

The (phase-space) local spectrum of the field scattered by a low-contrast object due to Gaussian beam incidence, is evaluated in the high-frequency regime. The scattering problem is linearized using the Born approximation for which the incident field and local transform domain Green's function can be evaluated asymptotically. The scattering phenomenology is described in terms of local samplings of the object function which are localized in the object domain according to the incidence and processing parameters. Application in the field of inverse scattering are expected to yield fast and efficient algorithms due to the availability of analytic solutions for both the incident wave and the local domain Green's function.

The paper introduces an indexing model that performs training by memorizing inverse patterns mostly avoiding any calculations. While patterns are valuable tools for building on settled knowledge and thereby reducing the risk of failure, they also limit the freedom of creativity in design. After reflecting on the being behind actual being which highlights the need for an utopian component in design practice, we will reflect on how the spirit of an utopian thinking can be linked with traditional design activities. As a result, we propose a process scaffold that allows practitioners to switch between the two design approaches: rational design and creative and performative design. As a sample domain, we look at HCI patterns. But in general, the ideas presented in this paper should not be limited to this kind of patterns.
