Based on linear prediction and weighted least squares, three simple iterative algorithms for frequency estimation of a complex sinusoid in additive white noise are devised. The proposed approach, which utilizes the first-order as well as higher order linear prediction terms simultaneously but does not require phase unwrapping, can be considered as a generalized version of the weighted linear predictor frequency estimator. In particular, convergence as well as mean and variance analysis of the most computationally efficient frequency estimator, namely, GWLP 2, are provided. Computer simulations are included to contrast the performance of the proposed algorithms with several conventional computationally attractive frequency estimators and Cramer-Rao lower bound for different frequencies, observation lengths, and signal-to-noise ratios.

In this article we consider three nonparametric maximum likelihood estimators based on mixed-case interval-censored data. Apart from the unrestricted estimator, we consider estimators under the assumption that the underlying distribution function of event times is concave or unimodal. Characterizations of the estimates are derived, and algorithms are proposed for their computation. The estimators are shown to be asymptotically consistent, and the benefits of additional constraints are illustrated through simulations. Finally, the estimators are used as an ingredient in a nonparametric comparison of two samples.

In order to minimize the volume of HTS magnets and reduce the perpendicular component of magnetic field, two optimal algorithms- iterative algorithm and genetic algorithm are presented to make optimal design of geometry parameter of HTS magnets. The example of optimal design of 500kJ HTS magnet is also given. And the comparison between iterative algorithm and genetic algorithm has done. The iterative algorithm is a optimal method which magnet performance varies with numbers of solenoid coil layer. The magnet geometry parameters should be determined with a rule of heightening the magnet performances and the minimum of magnet volume is found. The improved GA is applied well in magnet optimal design combining Britaina Sheffield University GA toolbox and the optimal results are obtained.

Digital holography is a powerful imaging technology in which the reconstruction processing is accomplished via a computer and no wet processing is required. Therefore, it can obtain the image of an object in real time. Furthermore, both the amplitude and phase information of a wave front can be obtained simultaneously. In-line digital holography can effectively utilize the spatial-bandwidth product of the digital recorder, such as CCD or CMOS. Reconstruction algorithms allow a continuous development and expand the applications of the digital holography. In this presentation, a novel method will be presented for reconstruction of wave front from a series of in-line holograms. After determining the phase and amplitude distribution of the wave front at a given plane, the original object can be reconstructed via the inverse propagation. Due to no reference wave is required in this approach, the optical setup is relatively simplified, the size of the recording object can be enlarged, and the signal-noise-ratio of the system can be improved. The simulation results based on the Fresnel transform are presented to demonstrate the validity of this new approach. The image reconstructed from experimentally recorded holograms by using the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld approximation corresponds to the original object well.

Adaptive optics (AO) systems under study for the future generation of telescopes have to cope with a huge number of degrees of freedom. This number N is typically 2 orders of magnitude larger than for the currently existing AO systems. An iterative method using a fractal preconditioning, has recently been suggested for a minimum-variance reconstruction in O(N) operations. We analyze the efficiency of this algorithm for both the open-loop and the closed-loop configurations. We present the formalism and illustrate the assets of this method with simulations. While the number of iterations for convergence is around 10 in open-loop, the closed-loop configuration induces a reduction of the required number of iterations by a factor of 3 typically. This analysis also enhances the importance of introducing priors to ensure an optimal command. Closed-loop simulations demonstrate the loss of performance when no temporal priors are used. Besides, we discuss the importance of an accurate model for both the system and its uncertainties, so as to ensure a stable behavior in closed-loop.

This paper treats the output feedback H-2 control with regional pole placement condition. In general, this problem is a BMI problem which is difficult to be solved theoretically. The purpose of this paper is to propose an iterative method for obtaining a sub-optimal solution of the H-2 control problem with regional pole placement condition. The key idea of this paper is to employ a full-order observer-based controller. The proposed method produces a sequence of controllers which approaches to the unconstrained globally optimal H-2 controller while it satisfies the D-stability constraint. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of our method.
