Transaction Operational Feasibility (TOF) analysis is important in electricity markets to ensure reliable and secure operation of power systems. This paper presents a web-based design and implementation of TOF analysis, based on three-tier client/server architecture and up to date web technologies, so that the TOF analysis can be easily and effectively accessed by all market participants for competitive decision making. The proposed TOF analysis is based on approximate ATC computations for efficient real-time market operation. A 3-area system example is given for illustration purposes.

This paper presents the salient features of web-based interactive manuals for laboratory-based subjects and compares them with traditional laboratory manuals. The manuals utilize the latest developments in web applications, java programming and pre-designed spreadsheets with the objective of reducing the time taken for students to perform the mundane and laborious calculations and plotting of graphs. The students can therefore utilize the time in the laboratories on the analysis and discussion of results besides performing the actual experiments. Moreover, the web-based interactive manuals incorporate virtual experiments, digital pictures, animated GIF files and quick movies to familiarize the students with the experimental set-up before performing the physical experiments. The proposed approach is applicable for laboratory-based subjects, which are not amenable to be converted completely to virtual laboratories.

The web has grown tremendously over the past decade - with applications in education, marketing, financial services, and supply chain management. Web technology also has a significant impact on computer simulation. Most of the effort in web-based simulation is aimed at modeling, particularly at building simulation languages and at creating model libraries that can be assembled and executed over the web. This paper focuses on efficiency of simulation experimentation for optimization. We introduce a framework for combining the statistical efficiency of simulation optimization techniques with the effectiveness of parallel execution algorithms. In particular, a novel simulation sampling procedure, the Optimal Computing Budget Allocation (OCBA) algorithm, is implemented in a web-based environment for low-cost parallel and distributed simulation experimentation. A prototype implementation with some experimental results is presented to show the viability of web-enabled simulation environments. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

We present a web-based collaborated diagnosis system developed using java programming language. The system allows more than two physicians to look at the same images, to discuss through a chat box, and to make diagnosis collaboratively. The system provides tools such as window and value setting that physicians generally need. Beside the tools, we are implementing different tools for the system such as a volume rendering algorithm and an animation playback method. VIDOS is a java-based server-client video management system that permits one to customize a personal version of any downloadable digital video file over the Internet or local intranet. It enables one, without purchasing expensive video editing software, to edit the video spatially and temporally, to specify the desired zoom factor, frame rate and video format, and to choose the nature and quality of digital compression before downloading the edited video. VIDOS permits videos to be adapted to suit their end uses. This project aims at designing and developing a new approach towards Interactive Distance Learning to provide distance education in both asynchronous and synchronous modes. Various tools are embedded to meet the needs of both instructors and students. In asynchronous mode the interactive tools like Online Message Boards, Online Quizzes, Online exams, Online Course Registration, Online Grades Tool, Assignments, and Course-notes provide education effectively even when the instructors and the students do not participate at the same time. In synchronous mode interactive tools like Online Discussion Groups, Online Students Feedback tool and Microsoft NetMeeting provide education effectively when both the students and the instructors participate simultaneously. It also consists of effective tools which enable both the administrators as well as the instructors to update the respective databases making the tool more effective. This approach provides immediacy of interaction between the instructors and the students such as immediate feedback from the students to the instructor and immediate attention of the instructor to the students. A method to add a Web-based interface to a command-line driven system is presented. Without programming, javamatic can generate a graphical user interface, then invokes commands in the legacy system transparently to the user. The user interface (UT) is automatically generated as a java applet or stand-alone interface from a high-level description of the application, which is UI independent, using a set of UI mapping rules.
