In modern technological industrial era, the typical manufacturing plant consists of a large number of diversified activities interconnected as a unit with required communication facilities. The manufacturing plant layout area consists of various activity cells such as design office, manufacturing shops, assembly and inspection departments, administration and security locations etc., The fundamental goal of facility layout problem is to minimize the material flow costs by positioning the cells within stipulated area. The orientation and spatial coordinates of each cell is specified by FLP design and the orientation of each cell may be in horizontal or vertical position. In this paper, the manufacturing plant layouthas been designed by using Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique ( CRAFT). java programme has been developed to design the optimum plant layout by considering STEP file as input for developing an optimum plant layout. A three-dimensional (3D) finite element model for simulating heat transfer during cooling of irregular-shaped ready-to-eat meat products was developed and validated. The heat transfer model considered conduction as the governing equation, subject to convection, radiation and moisture evaporation boundary conditions. A 3D finite element algorithm developed in java (TM) was used to solve the model. The algorithm generated solutions for meshes containing 4-node tetrahedral volume elements and 3-node triangular boundary elements. Product geometries were generated from CT-scan images of the meat products. The model was adapted to receive input parameters that can be easily provided by a meat processors including air relative humidity, air temperature, air velocity, type of casing, duration of water shower, product weight, and estimated core temperature of product prior to entering the cooling chamber. Model validation was conducted in four commercial facilities, under normal processing conditions. Temperatures predicted by the model were in agreement with observed values. Average root-mean-square error (RMSE) was 1.19 +/- 0.54 degrees C for core temperatures, 1.73 +/- 0.48 degrees C for temperatures 0.05 m from core to surface, and 2.01 +/- 1.01 degrees C for surface temperatures. The developed heat transfer model was integrated with predictive microbiology models through a food safety website: ***. The integration can be useful for estimating the severity of cooling deviations and resulting microbiological safety caused by unexpected cooling process disruptions. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. The analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) is an important diagnostic method for detection and assessment of cardiac abnormalities. The availability of complete computer frameworks that can aid researchers in the field of HRV analysis is limited due to the large number of different feature extraction methods. A recently developed framework for feature extraction from cardiac rhythm called HRVFrame is promising, because it allows a user to access more than 40 implemented linear and nonlinear methods. The aim of this paper is to provide a more detailed overview of this framework and all of its capabilities and recent extensions. Additionally, the aim is to encourage the use of HRVFrame as a free and open-source tool for developing medical applications based on java programming language. A comparison of the framework with existing solutions for cardiac rhythm analysis is provided.

Testing of learner's knowledge is demanding functionality of the e-learning systems. Multiple choice questions are suitable and easy to implement feature for testing the knowledge in systems for learning social studies. However, these questions are not suitable for systems for learning the basics of programming problems where solutions are not exact. In previous work we have presented the basic functionalities of the Protus system that implements java programming course for beginners. Testing knowledge in this system is implemented through various tests with numerous multiple-choice questions. This paper describes a case study of a second-semester introductory programming course for information systems (IS) students that combined desktop and mobile application development and consumption of existing web services. Our aim was to provide students with a holistic view of how different types of applications can be developed and combined to solve realworld problems, as the students learned the basics of programming. Students progressively built a desktop java application with a graphical user interface for a local public transit system. It combined the use of basic algorithms, existing web services for geo-coding and mapping to illustrate a recommended route on the system. Students then ported this application to the Android platform re-using most of the code they had already developed. Along with fulfilling the traditional objectives of an introductory course, this course also demonstrated the possible interplay of stand-alone components and web services in desktop and mobile applications and kept the students motivated and engaged throughout the semester.
